Wesley: Have you read my last post?

Meadey: Wow. Doubt that you jinxed them, though. I'm actually amazed at how far they've got with their current line-up. I think they lack a midfield general (Gerrard could turn into one, but as of now he's terribly uneven), and a really strong defense. Yeah, I know they give up extremely few goals, but that has more to do with their playing style and Jerzy Dudek than a really great back-line. I really think Jamie Carragher isn't good enough, and I have my doubts about Henchoz too, although he has improved greatly this season. Sami is excellent, as well as Riise (fellow countryman!), and I think Vignal will be a great asset to the club in years to come. Owen is superb when on form, and Heskey has the heart of a lion, but I wish Houllier would use Litmanen more often! He's the kind of creative player 'pool lack in their offensive game.

BTW: Some snowty company has bought the rights to broadcast PL in Norway (Canal +, authenticated suckmasters), so I rarely get to watch PL games, and have to settle for the FA/Coca Cola cup and Champions League. So the better's game, a 40 year saturday tradition in Norway, disappeared a couple of years ago. Not that many people can afford or are willing to pay with the shirts on their backs to see PL.

(Welcome Meadey, Don't take what some of the young one say personally, most of us oldfolk just smile and nod and let the volitile tempers simmer down a bit,  Wes is a pretty good guy but he likes to fly off the handle on some topics.  Most of us can give and take on a subject without personally insulting anyone.)

ALL OF YOU SOCCER GUYS ARE FREAKS!

(Maybe that came across a bit strong.)

There is nothing I will ever be able to do to show you the error of your ways.  I shouldn't really blame you, It is all a matter of poor upbringing.  I can see you in your beds at night, "CURSE YOU FATHER! FOR MAKING ME A SOCCER FAN!"  I really have alot of sympathy for you.  It is just a matter of education, but the first step is recognizing that you have a problem.  Without taking that first step you will never come to terms with the mockery that your life has become.

"Hello, I'm Meadey, and I'm a....Soccer fan..."(Breaks down crying, Dongio comes up and gives a reassuring hug) "Brother, I know your pain."

Bah i dont have the energy to read all posts, i just read OldTimers and one thing came to my mind. Only the fact that you spend that much time back talking football must mean that you reckon yourself its the biggest sport there is. And it prolly will stay that way too, whatever you and your fellow americans feel of it. To bad the rest of the world can like something that USA can´t huh?

( Newcastle = Champions League now it’s sure... I’m really happy for this team & particularly for Laurent Robert, Sylvain Distin & their coach/manager/premierfan Stiven )

Dongio, your explanations won’t convince any US guys but this was not the goal. They have perhaps an idea of what soccer is now.

I want to congratulate english supporters. You have the reputation of being the best fans of Europe. I mean : respect for your team, your opponent, others supporters & always applaude great football even if it’s your opponent which plays well.
You are the best singers too (Liverpool & Arsenal)

In France, it’s far from being that. Did you ever see the stadiums in Première Division ? Far from the terrain (projectiles thrown), with gates to separate supporters in case of fight with others & a big to prevent people to go on the ground.

How lucky you are !!! When well placed in your stadiums, you are at 2 meters of the action.
Sometime when the player goes too fast he impale on you... just too cool !

I like tennis, badminton & soccer (libero) coz I play those games on high level. I’m not a “lazy TV watcher”, but they have all my respect. Watching sports on TV that you can’t / don’t want practice isn’t a crime for me.

Please nobody use the word “hate” no more. I hate it !  This thread is called What sport do you LIKE. I just can’t believe some people hate sports or fans. We talk about games. You like them or not, but don’t need to hate them. Dumb people who crush materials or other guys have nothing to do with sports. Or perhaps Ultimate fighting, a great stupidity I don’t call sport.

The sport I like is the BEST !
The sport you like is boring and dumb.
Just kidding.

I think ALL sports are interesting IF AND ONLY IF you like it !

Sports I enjoy playing and watching: badminton
and squash.

Sports I enjoy watching: soccer and basketball (mainly NBA)

But it's sad that a lot of sports have changed due to the huge sum of $$$ involved. I know nothing about American football (well, it's not the kind of football I like anyway. ). The only knowledge of it comes from a movie: "Any Given Sunday" directed by Oliver Stone. It seems to me that am. football = money, money and money.

As for sports, I'm not "anti-US" . IMO, NBA is one of the most entertaining sports event to watch and US is definitely entitled to claim that they are the best in terms of basketball. I like LA Laker back to the time of "Magic Johnson". But now I appreciate Everson of 76'er for his fighting spirit and dazzling skills.

Being a fan of Liverpool (though not a hardcore one), DonGio
,I agree with most of your points except that IMO, Liverpool has already owned one of the most reliable defense line-up in the Premier League. Well, they are not perfect, neither is Dudek, especially from a fan's viewpoint. But statistically, it is one of the best defense line-up. What can you ask more ???

I think the biggest problem for Liverpool is it's lack of consistency. It seems Liverpool often loses easy games and  and that's why it cannot get championship for the league ,yet. In fact, Liverpool is the nightmare of those soccer gamblers. Wtf are the Liverpool players doing when it lost to Leverkusen. Damnnnnnnnnnnn.......

I'll tell you what they were doing; they were caught with their pants down! Toppmöllers guys showed them a thing or two. Even with their ultra-defensive style, they fell through simply because players like Carragher and Henchoz aren't good enough individually.

I would like to see how the game would have turned out though, if Owen had scored on his two 100% chances. So unlike him not to rise to the occation.

I think Liverpool has to return to the attacking ways of the seventies and eighties, when they ruled english and european football. They need a midfielder who can score on freekicks, and a defense more comfortable with posession.

And what do you mean Dudek isn't perfect? Like hell he isn't!!!! No James-bloopers or Van der Saar-follies with him...

Oldtimer hit it on the head a few posts back...
Soccer is the largest sport in the world because all it takes to play is a ball, field, and a bunch of people. Slap a makeshift goal together and you can play. It's the cheapest sport to take up...
ask yorself why this sport is number one in EVERY third world nation (and I'm not saying all who play are third world nations). It's because anyone can play. American Football is expensive when you factor in equipment. Same thing with Basketball...you need an appropriate court which tends to be more expensive than an open field.

In the U.S. the students who try out for Football and can't make it and get cut or quit because it's too hard...go play soccer...that's just the way it is in the U.S.
Americans will never care about Soccer they way they do about Football, Basketball and Baseball. Soccer is incredibly boring compared to these sports.

Football (American Football) which I'm sure that many of you have NEVER played (yet seem to have an opinion of or claim knowledge of from watching) have no basis for a valid point. If you have ever played it you would know how ignorant your statements are. It takes intelligence, speed, quickness, strength, skill, and a mastery of tactics to be good at it. There are literally hundreds of plays and different ways to achieve victory.
I have played soccer and it is simply not at the same level. Sure, there are tremendous athletes playing it, but less is required of them than any other major sport (except maybe baseball).
Soccer players will get contact from another player and fall down screaming that he was fouled...carrying on like he broke a leg or something and get carried off the field only to return 2 minutes later doing fine. That's acting. That's not tough, that's being a rule-bending baby.

Bottom line: I've played both Soccer and American Football...I can comment on both.
If you've never played American Football (and I mean full pads, full speed, organized football) then you're simply just voicing your biased opinions.

I know that many nations see soccer as a national pride thing because many seem to take it far too serious...you get to beat your neighboring country and have bragging rights over them...that may be fun, but it doesn't excuse that the sport is boring. I think Soccer fans care more about the opportunity to beat their rival countries or enemies than they do about the sport.
Oh, and nice riots...I don't remember the last time someone died at an American Football or Basketball game...
It's ridiculous that fans will kill each other over a stupid sport.

Contrary again, i've played both, and the bonding is at a much higher level for soccer than football, and one needs to think as one living, moving, breathing organism when playing soccer, as opposed to one large crushing hand charging onto the field.

I've played football and soccer and rugby and football, well personaly i think rugby takes more of a man to play then football, i mean a very simple game, stop start so on,
as for soccer it requires alot of skill and speed aswell, just not as much contact

Just came back from a mountain climbing trip 2 days ago.  Tough luck, it was a 3 days 2 nights trip and the weather for the last 2 days were real bad... a short escape and now back to reality...

Anybody enjoy baseball?

To DonGio:

I like football (soccer), but a 0-0 baseball match could be interesting too.
