I don't know about the rest of you, but I liked the Tom Bombadil part in the book.

He should have been the one to take the ring and throw it into the fire. He would do that while singing a song.

I was a little disappointed that Tom wasn't more important in the whole quest, the Ring seemed to have no power over him.

Quote:
Say rather that the Ring has no power over him. He is his own master. But he cannot alter the Ring itself, nor break its power over others. And now he is withdrawn into a little land, within bounds that he has set, though none can see them, waiting perhaps for a change of days, and he will not step beyond them.

Tom was a god-figure. There would have been no struggle. The point of a hobbit taking the ring to mount doom was a vulnerable being facing great danger; where with tom there would have been none. So, no conflict. It would have been ridiculously easy for him.

I agree about that, fred, but Tom was basically confined to the Old Forest and had little to do with how the whole quest unfolded, which is why many adaptations leave him out completely...

I only wish he had more of an impact on the story, especially considering that he was a god-figure as you put it, and because I enjoyed the part with him in the book.
