Jokes aside, back then we weren't faring that badly, until that pirate came here, lulled the population by promising to redistribute the land to everybody, made pacts with the mafia and then slaughtered those who even hinted at rebelling against him.
And then, after being annexed we had to pay heavier taxes to pay the Piedmontese debt, we had to submit to the mafia who got an easier route to the institutions and we didn't even get the lands redistributed.
Our unification was a disaster, there's no way to put it differently.
