Creature specialists boosts their units but only insignificantly.
For example lvl 20 Fiona provides 4 attack and 2 defense to hellhounds/cerberi. Is this really great bonus for a lvl 20 hero? Some mediocre artifacts already boost units like these even they provide attack/defense/speed bonus to all creatures unlike creature specialists.
On the other hand Sorcery/intelligence specialists boost their abilities every level up in greater extend unlike creature specialists.

You don't understand whats about, nobody here gave Fiona as example. It is about boosting main hero power in the very early days, thus everything which improves your starting army stats and numbers is the key. Also the sorcery you mention comes too late and does too little and it takes time and gaming experience until people realize sorcery is a hoax.

with basic leadership and basic tactics could be decent

Well Galthran is THE best creature specialist in the game, both because of very high stats of Skeleton Warriors and because of Necromancy.
Halbardiers have almost as good stats as Skeleton Warriors, so they would also be very strong, probably second best behind Galthran.

Mmm, one may even choose to start with Dracon or Gretchin but if Tazar or Crag are in the tavern they will never get level 2.

Loynis because of Prayer, which essentially acts as a combination of haste, bloodlust, and stone skin to give a decisive edge in battle. Loynis is limited by his Learning skill, but is otherwise great as long as you avoid other useless skills. He is the best non-damaging magic user in the game.

@Salamandre Is that from TEW II Era version? I know I've seen it but TEW III Maximus is legionaries specialist and TEW IV is about Commudus.

If Castle Growthing.. An example of some Diplomacy version, or Charm in H4, Necropolis can't use a skill, thus banned.. Castle gets legion of Pikemen at the cost of gold with skill.. Other Dungeon could get a discount, Inferno joins Imps freely.. Ok we go to Pikemen matter..
So legion of Pikemen by skill vs legion of Skeletons by Necromancy.. Pikemen win the battle, because stats are better, helpless level 1 specialty, thus the bonus is the same..
Necropolis doesn't go to ruined, thus Skeleton transformer!
Halberdiers get one speed do a total of 6 speed, and then grass terrain gives one speed bonus.. So 7 speed.. Father of balance is dead, thus HotA can do Castle Growthing!!

Mullich is good only if you get earth magic quickly.
In hota the best starting hero for Castle is Valeska, because of the extra shooters. And you choose for main whichever of your might heroes gets earth magic 1st.

Adela is the only Castle hero I would main besides Sir Mullich. Knights aren't a good enough class in terms of secondary skills or specialization to justify using IMO. Bless specialization and starting with diplomacy are both strong enough to justify a Cleric as your main hero. Even though they have a high chance of getting First Aid they also have a better chance of getting offense and logistics than most other magic classes and a very high chance of air magic. Water magic isn't bad either because boosted mass bless and mass prayer together are extremely strong.

That would be for the best. But even without earth Mullich can still be the main. I think he is the only hero I ever used as main, even though he failed to get earth. Aside from death knights, of course.

How? His ballista will do like 10 damage per shot. Unless you can get like +10 attack, upgrade Artillery and get Archery fast, otherwise his ballista won't do much and you also lose archers instead of ballista.
He is not as good as Gurnisson, but not as bad as Gerwulf, he is just meh.

Remember what? Only pro-expert players play Ballistae with.. Noob never get it.. Yeah Artillery skill leads combat skills, you can get combat skills easily, but only Earth.. In the WoG you must have a Artillery, I don't play in H3C and HotA..

No. If as usual against sp 5 you have to use your pike men to lead the sp 5 to ballistia where it tanks the hit instead of piles while your archer shoots it from below

Yeah ballista can be used to tank hits, but that's about it, unless you have a lot of attack + Artillery + Archery.
