We ought to scrap birthday celebrations and institute conception days instead. I believe it's a far greater triumph to overcome 17 million other spunk cells and get to the objective over simply finding the exit hole. I.e something truly worth celebrating.

That actually is a great idea, dunno why nobody thought about that.
It's actually something that the Hebrews did regarding the greatest teachers and prophets, since according to them they died on the same day of their conception.

There are not even more than 54 countries in Africa, I don't know where the dude brought his 65 from. It says a lot about the relevance of his "arguments".
Of course not. However, I didn't take Trump seriously either and his "arguments" were about as relevant or even factually correct as that - and look where he sits now.

We got a badaaaass over here, we even missed the little “wink” smileys right after an offensive line, characteristic passive agressive posting style.
Oh really? Trump sits higher than us? Awwww man, isn’t that too bad, I am so concerned about sitting higher than Donald Trump...

Clear facts exposition, real arguments ordinated in a logical and comprehensive manner, verifiable sources, correct English, respect of the interlocutor, real information checked before being posted and used as an actual argument for the opinion held, impartiality, no personal insults, understanding the differences of interpretation of data.

A pleasure, as usual.

Come on, it's common knowledge that Greeks fell to the Romans because of their internal divisions.

Don't you dare ruin my little moment here, I'm trying to make a statement against debating!
Besides, you know who else lost to internal divisions? Romans and Sicilians! Wait... Oh. Verdammt.

Joking aside, it's not like philosophy is that useful on a battlefield, it's not a soldier's first priority.

Rome didn't conquer the world because it failed to invent the Internet. Some barbaric descendant mostly of German and Celtic origin took notice, invented it and conquered the world 2 millennia later.
Conclusion - barbarians with Internet beat civilized folk without Internet.

How about the legendary story of Archimedes burning Roman fleets with his giant magnifiers?

Joking aside, there is a reason the Romans were assimilated by the people they conquered and today we have a term called Greco-Roman instead of Spartan-Roman.

@Sal

65 African countries? Okay, I’ll be fair, maybe some of the countries are kind of federations and it was 65 legislation entities in your original source or something like that, and you mixed it up, and your overall point was, in Africa, being gay is quite hard compared to being gay in Europe and that tells something about “the civilizational value” of the two in comparison.

Contitents are not cultures, there are many cultures within both Europe and Africa, even if we round them up and say something like “yes, but all cultures in Europe share a tolerance and legal/social freedom compared to all cultures in Africa in a collective sense,” it would still be a wrong analysis. First of all, only a hundred years ago, it was the same in Europe everywhere, was “the European culture” entirely something else back then? Europeans also claimed things like “gays should be punished” or “men are superior to women” or “heretics should be penalized.” And they also did this on a constitutional, legal level in most places. So, what changed? Now, what is very noticable is that eveywhere, the biggest difference in such values comes from levels of urbanization, if urban culture is dominant, it even starts to transform the rural areas, where as in countries where rural values still rule, they even hold back the urban areas. This is not the only factor, of course, it is never that simple. For instance, Islam is indeed a much more negative factor than Christianity when it comes to such issues, even though religiousity itself is always more fundamentalist in rural cultures (or rural areas). I can go to an uptown area in Istanbul, take a picture of a cafe, it will be young couples drinking wine, a few loners will be reading books or a paper in the corner, some group will be passionately debating about the latest episode of Game of Thrones etc... Neither the boys nor the girls will look much different than they would in a cafe from Spain or Italy. Then, I can go to a small town in Anotolia and the kahve in there will be all men and they will indeed most be thinking gays might well be imprisoned and women are inferior and so on... And the main cultural difference between the two is not regional, it is about their social class. Look at Arabian royalty, their women are not in headscarfs, all their children (boy or girl) study in places like Oxford, Cambridge etc, they are not much different than any other upper-middle class people from any other region. However, in most Arabic countries that is only “the royalty.” A Nordic country’s political system (which is also related to wealth, I dont mean that in a reductionist way) spreads the same thing in a more horizontal spectrum. Compare Balkans to Africa, but also compare rural Balkans to metropolitan areas of the Balkans, the main factor isnt culture in the sense of “regional culture” but culture in the sense of how much it allows opportunity of experience, self-realization, free thinking. Not all regions provide equal conditions when it comes to that, but this doesnt translate into regions having innate cultural obstacles about it.

@artu

You are right, but imo it doesn't change one fact that "civilized" Europe seems to be ignoring where it comes to immigrant crisis. I understand that in order to change things, you need education, tolerance and a long process of integration. Plus it's humane to help. But the simple fact is that many of these people don't want and won't change. Their culture suits them, be it from primitive greedy reasons or because they know nothing else. For each war refugee that really needs help, there are a number of opportunistic, able but lazy or calculating scoundrels that simply want to exploit Europe civilizations hospitality, cus they know Europe will welcome them with open arms.

Let's say you have a wounded poisonous snake in your garden. You now it's poisonous, yet you want to help him cus you pity him and it's humane etc. You let him into your house and want to treat he's wounds (yeah you normally call a vet/animal care but it's not the point of this example). First thing the snake does, he bits you in the balls (or something else, use your imagination). You die. The snake is happy cus his culture allows him to bite you in your testicles. Moreover he's in you house now, so he goes around trashing it and eating your pet cat. Then he leaves to find another sucker who will "help him". The End!

Solution: be very careful about selecting people who we let in. Control what they do. Don't wanna work? Catch them and insta-deport. Use the army if necessary. You're on our turf, you need to assimilate, bring something to our societies. We already have problems with our own societies (poverty, nationalists, lazy bums etc). Why would we want to add to it?
