Sure. Just like good art is good art and bad art is bad art

Now, how many did you get?!

I got two wrong. It would be easier if we were looking at the real thing instead of small size photos.

Modern art doesnt only consist of abstract expressionism (which is sometimes deliberately child-like, “Freudian journeys back to childhood” were a thing at the time) and just like anything else, you would have developed a better eye for it, had you liked it in the first place.

A lot of the pop music you love and anime you watch can also be written by a kid. Mozart was writing concertos at that age. Why is it that people are obsessed with craftsmanship when it comes to visual arts only. Is it because it used to imitate photographic reality? Would you really prefer we only had art like that?

7/11.  I guess it'd be easier if I had the paintings in front of me to see the more finer details.

Also, cut the "good art; bad art" type of thinking.  There is no "good art" and there is no "bad art"; the moment you try and put such labels on it, it stops being art altogether.

Be careful with that statement!  You cannot distinguish what is "good" if you've never experienced that which is "bad".

That’s also figurative and figurative with great realistic detail, so yes. If you notice, people who piss on modern art usually leave out such examples of surrealism, exactly because of that.

I love the surreal as much as I love natural depictions. Art can be as much for oneself as much as it can be for its audience and a child can create something beautiful and not necessarily just 'good enough for its age'. But when an actual artist tries to hide his lack of skill/effort with made up MEANING(or just doodles something a talentless child could do), that doesn't exactly raise its value for me. Might be cute but that's.. about it? And if it has value for its creator but otherwise looks poor and the audience lacks context to know what it is about then why should I or anyone care?

I could draw a couple of lines, add a few abstract shapes and call it a commentary on the downfall of modern society. Some might even start seeing it if I told them. But.. yeeah. If I made it for myself, cool, I was bored and I made it anyway. Did I add something of actual value to the world? Debatable at best.

I got 6/11 btw Without spending too much time observing them that is.

I don't see how the second claim emphasizes the first. As kid, Mozart had the knowledge of an adult and he was working up to 18 hours daily to acquire that, beside his unexplained genius. Pop music can be written - technically at least, I am yet to see that -  by a kid because it doesn't require having much knowledge, just intuitive sense of melody and rudimentary theoretical concepts, it is basically a very simplified form of  classical music, where forms, harmonies, modulations and polyphony are reduced to basic principles.

@NoobX

There are people who think Picasso art is good, but for me it looks like a scribbling of a child. So I think it depends on one's preference.

Rather than emphasizing the first sentence, it means “you can even go further.” There are a lot of early teenagers writing pop music, I cant remember someone starting as early as Mozart either, yet if the real thing can be done (it’s not just Mozart, there are other prodigies too), the simplified version can be done with much better ease.

@ Elvin

But almost all of them learn to draw realisticly in first few years of art school, so they have nothing to prove about that. There are shallow or generic stuff, too, of course, there always have been. But some of the stuff above, for instance, means something in relevance to the artists’s earlier work or as part of a wholesome body of work, such pictures taken out of context are usually misleading.

I think the bigger contrast comes from the fact that art is now a billion dollar market following the capitalist code and if an artist makes a name, even his/ her most simplistic works become worth millions like raising stock. How abstract modern art can be combined with how expensive it can get, creates a reaction in people which is not hard to understand. But it’s not simple as “I draw a red line and called it art, in your face mf.”

A WAsteland debate about art?

Got 6/11 by just clicking on something. Felt that "method" was artful enough.

Anyway, guys, you realize that the only reason there is to discuss whether something is art or not is the PRICE TAG you can put on it one way or another.

I've talked to the Cubists. They are begging you to give them a free pass, too. They offered 5 bottles of vodka in return but I can't tell the brand unfortunately since the picture they send was this:
