Indeed upgrading your green dragons all the way to black dragon require lots of sulfur. So you might have red dragons for that specific case, but all I am saying is that you will never recruit red dragons from the building and will prefer to wait the next turn to get black dragons which means you are most likely to play with green and black dragon in general. After 20+ games with warlock on the current version of the game, i never ended up having any red dragons in my armies.

Yeah, the dragon towers could use adjusting. It would be better if the upgrade costs were more equal, like in original H2.

I also want to point out that I like the use of secondary precious resources in some of the new recruitment buildings. The Keg House costing sulfur, the Harpy Roost costing gems, and so on. It was a good idea to put some extra use for precious resources that those towns don't otherwise need much of.

I had no problem installing the mod on my windows 7 computer but now I'm trying to install the mod on my laptop (windows 10) and I get this error when I try to launch :

Assert violation in file "D:SoftProgrammingDelphiSource\SRCUnits_OLDER_GameExt.pas" on line 407.
Error at address:$4F218A5

I tried this method :
Navigate to game directory
Create Debug folder, navigate inside
Create Era folder, navigate inside
Create log.txt

It doesn't work.

Then i managed to solve the problem by running a compatibility problem quick fix. But after rebooting my computer the error message is back and now even this method doesnt work anymore.
Any idea ?

Your destination folder uses any non-unicode letters? Like: C://Users/ąęść/Heroes3?

I'm no expert but I don't think so. It's pretty straight forward :
D: > Jeux > HoMM 3 Complete

I tried to install it on My C: partition too.

You are trying to install an outdated v0.8.0 build. Try the actual v0.8.1 instead. I am currently from my phone, so sorry for poor message composition.
https://www.moddb.com/mods/h3sw/downloads/h3sw-v081-beta

If you are already doing so, make sure you turned off DEP (Data Execution Prevention) for h3sw.exe. It might be tricky to find this setting on Win10.

If DEP switch is nowhere to be found, I advise custom installation over newer ERA version similar to what RoseKavalier did before. I will write a detailed instruction here a little later if required. First and foremost, check the mod build you are currently installing.

Thank you Orzie. I was already on the v0.8.1 build. Unfortunately turning off DEP for h3sw.exe doesn't solve the problem either.
I am interested in your last solution when you'll have time to elaborate.

Here is a rather simple guide. Do not delete your previous Heroes 3 folder.

1. Install Heroes 3 SoD.
2. Install the latest available ERA II version over it. You can find it here. The mod was built over older 2.46 version, while it's already 2.8+ available.
3. Go to <Heroes3>/Mods/ folder and copy The Succession Wars 0.8.1 folder to the respective Mods folder of your new HoMM3 directory.
4. Also copy list.txt from your previous <Heroes3>/Mods/ directory to the new place.
5. Launch h3era.exe to play, or copy h3sw.exe/h3swmaped.exe from your previous installation and use that executable.
6. (recommended) Install HD Mod if required.

That's it, should work. The whole trouble about error on line 407 in Era II is related to some problems with Era internal file system. It just doesn't want to work on some computers with Win10.

Thank you so much Orzie, it worked !

Now just a slight problem but no biggie : the water is funny looking. It goes from blue to white during the animation cycle.
I'm not sure how to post a screenshot here but if you get what i'm saying, maybe there is a tweak i can do on the .ini file or something to fix this ?

You need to specify which executable you use. If you are talking about the map editor, it will work that way for now. You can turn off terrain animation in View->Terrain Animation (Ctrl+T) option. This is all due to the fact that the water terrain is packed with Heroes II palette, while the map editor treats it as if it's still Heroes III palette.

There is no reason for this animation glitch to happen in standard game though.

I forgot to mention an important fix. Please do that in order to have your game working properly.
You need to copy all of these files (not just list.txt) to the Mods folder of your new installation too. Sorry for not mentioning it earlier.

Ok I copied these other files too.

I am talking about the era exe not the editor, the animation glitch is in the actual game. It's here with or without HD mod too.

Pretty strange. Is water.bin still present in Mods/The Succession Wars 0.8.1/EraPlugins folder?

Depending on your installation directory, your system might have blocked all copied files with .bin extension, which is critical for the mod.

Try to rename it as something like "awater.bin" in order for the file to stand in the beginning of the file list in the folder.

EDIT: No need for that. For some reason, dear Berserker decided to change the directory from where .bin files are loaded on newer Era II versions. The reason is still a mystery to me.

Quote:
[-] Era does not apply *.bin patches from EraPlugins directory anymore. Patches from EraPlugins/BeforeWoG and EraPlugins/AfterWoG directories are still applied.

Try placing all .bin files to a new directory:
Mods/The Succession Wars 0.8.1/EraPlugins/AfterWoG/

Well, thats a real problem. Bersy does an excellent job but there are 150 mods for Era while probably only less than 5 to come in the future - seeing how many moders are still active. Changing the structure on which the platform worked is annoying and requires another testing phase + updates for every of the mods.

I didn't yet test > 2.72 but I will.

Knowing him, I am sure new perks are good. However, updating all past mods (if) need requires a lot of time. What if no one does it?
