that kind of autism is reserved for spaniards, since tomatoes they throw at each other are pretty hard and firm as well, but nowhere near as firm as citruses.

That's why you're supposed to squeeze the tomatoes a bit beforehand.

Eh, still better than that French tradition of throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails willy-nilly.

Nope, classist. It's been about the classes with those guys. And over here we're too busy throwing chairs.

It's when people start throwing tables, that snow has really hit the fan.

@ stevie: how can you get arrested when any opposition is getting molotoved? Yet another statement made that doesn't make sense.

Honestly, I hate to pick on you again and again, but your post is made of 100% retard.

Something like the tradition to throw tomatoes uses up an insignificant amount of resources in the big picture. It's pretty much nothing compared to the amount of food that gets thrown away in grocery stores or restaurants or by everyday people as a result of laziness or bad planning. Not to mention a hundred other examples, like yachts or beachhouses or oversized air conditioners... the list could go on and on.

Basically, you're just looking for a cheap and easy excuse to be bigoted towards Spanish people. In terms of "waste", it barely registers as a blip. People in Norway that own 2 homes are literally hundreds to thousands of times more wasteful than people who throw tomatoes. Not that I have a problem with owning 2 homes, but get over the retardation and the hypocrisy please.

And wasting nearly 14 tonnes of tomatoes is pretty bloody retarded. imagine how many of your stupid vegan "meals" you can prepare with those.

also, if it's given for free, then whoever grew them lost about 21k in profits, given the average price of the crappy spanish tomatoes is 1.50 euro a kilo.

A waste is a waste. No matter how it scales in the grander picture. Although if those same tomatoes would be left to spoil then it's better to have some fun with them or sth.

For instance, we have a bit of an "apple crisis" in Poland (an effect of our export growing). In some regions prices per kilos in the collection centres dropped so low that some farmers threw apples into a field to waste cus they were fed up with it after those centres ultimately stopped taking apples in.

I remember when I was a kid and went onto an organized tour to Amalfi Coast. At that time prices for lemons or oranges were still pretty high in groceries in Poland. Not to mention oranges were a "luxury good" back when communism was still around. A few years after communism ended oranges were still regarded as being somewhat a delicacy. Imagine my feeling when I saw wild Lemon and Orange trees growing everywhere in southern Italy, brimming with fruit that nobody ever cared to pick up, so those literally fell and layed on the streets in villages...

the crisis that Eastern European countries experience in regards to having surplus of exportable food is huge thanks to the mess in Slavmalia(ukraine) and because of those sanctions were issued willy nilly afterwards, which hurt the Eastern Bloc members of the EU.

Here it's the dairy industry that suffered, but the prices didn't go down. a pack of butter is around 1.80 brussels roubles on average (around 8 Zloty for a 200 gram brick of butter, the good quality, not that "butter and plant oils mix" garbage going for like 40 cents)

Apples, at least 2 years ago went for 12 brussels kopecks (around 50 groszy) a kilo in one particular buyer here (the firm that bought the stuff made apple juice concentrate as their primary product), so a fully loaded minivan(both back seat rows taken out) would make me about a 50 euro a trip on average(most was 70 iirc), take a 10 for gas expenses, so 40 brussels roubles profit on average. and that's from a small garden of 10 apple trees. made about 12 trips or so.

But given the cost of labor and similar things I can see why large orchard owners, of which I know Poland has as many as churches, would consider just throwing them away, but even then you can find a use for them if you're creative enough. like sell them to farmers specialising in animal husbandry.

Agriculture or husbandry is a subject as vast as an ocean.

@Kip
Lately we also have this ASF crisis, but yeah it affects whole Europe. Wildboar infect our husbandry pigs, and our pig farmers count losses in millions. We had this full-scale hunt for wildboard: ecologists were raging (well they did have valid points, like the inhumanity of it or spreading the infection via blood baths those hunts turned into), farmers cried it's not nearly enough the government was doing. There were even talks that your or Belarus hunters chased away the wildboars over our borders to make your problem our own (this might be propaganda or not, I don't know).

Oh and there's this affair with our beef. A few idiots were selling spoiled meat for cheap gain and now every exporter suffers here in PL.

My point: there are so many factors that affect the market that it's hard to get your head around it. The idea of "spoiling goods" by humanity can even be fathomed...

we've been exterminating our boar population, because african swine plague outbreak in several regions, mostly the eastern part. and the danish who own the largest pig farms are really pissy about it. eversince they set up shop, pork quality has dropped here, save for some select pig farmers in the area.
Can't really account for Belarussian side, our international relations were soured ever since some swedish phallic jockey violated their airspace to bombard them with teddy bears to protest "human right violations" ( even though Belarussian opposition are all chronic alcoholics and terrorists spending their days in the cheapest bars of Wilno)

But then again, I wouldn't call the legalised poaching clubs as hunters. no hunter worth his salt hunts foxes with shotguns or drink heavily on the hunt or threaten the drovers aiding in the hunt.

I'd assume Polish ministry of environment would issue an increased quota of boars to be hunted to counter their damage to the crop yield. but then again afaik each voivodeship has some bit of autonomy to decide for themselves and not the central government.

Well, they paid 250 euros for each killed pregnant sow...

I'll tell you Kip I'm not a fan of hunting as a sport (I'm not counting over-population reduction which is an important aspect of forestry service), as imo ganging up on animals armed to the teeth while being drunk is as far as off from my view of masculinity as it can get. So I might be biased.

But the thing is one of my previous communist prick of a minister of enviroment (which himself was a zealous hunter) gave hunters so many laws and made them so full of themselves that they literally can kill a domesticated dog in a forest on a walk with his owner if they deem the dog was bothering their hunt. There were a few cases of those...

So while I do understand the farmers pleads, I don't belive in righteousness of any of those so-called quota.

Oh yeah, back to the topic: I like lemons!

I have no desire to argue or fight with Kipshasz repeatedly, though I'm unsure if the feeling is mutual.

My response to a deplorable post was unnecessarily aggressive and I apologize for that.
