Hello everyone. I have extracted map files (for example storm.h4r campaigns) and i can open every .h4c map file but when i try to open campaign maps i am getting this error

game_maps.storm_campaign.Archmage.h4c is not a valid Heroes IV campaign file.

I can open them without any problem. Maybe you should try with another editor version.

Well all of the game versions (the vanilla H4, Gathering Storm, Winds of War and the various Equilibris versions) have their own campaign editor.

You can't open Gathering Storm campaigns with the vanilla editor, for example. You need a newer version. I used the Equilibris editor now to open the campaigns. If you didn't use that, try that. That should open any map or campaign.

Hmmm just realized i have another editor file named c_e_mod.exe

But when i try to open it is not opening after this message

https://pasteboard.co/I69dWnI.png

Update: I have realized editor is not opening when i put this file into the data folder >>> equi.aop

But still i cannot open. Is there any download link for the editor or is someone can send me the editor.exe?

Update 2: And i have realized i cannot open vanilla campaigns map files too.

Because it was probably installed incorrectly. But as I see you have the Winds of War installed what also should open its own campaigns and any older ones.

So, maybe your extracted campaigns are corrupt and you should try to extract them with another program. If that doesn't helps I don't know what can you do...

...except perhaps you can try to make a clean install of the game and try again the whole process haha.

Edit: WoW campaign editor

Equilibris 3.55 (no install needed just copy the files into your game folder).

Update: Ah just realized you have changed your post and added the files. Thank you so much but i think i have solved the issue.

The software i was using for the extract seems not working correctly. After i tried with different extractor (ResEdit) extracted map can be opened. Thank you for your assist my friend.

The H4 Resource Editor can correctly extract and pack the campaign files.

When packed in an h4r file, there are 12 additional bytes in the file header. The first 8 bytes don't seem to change, and the last 4 bytes is the size of the campaign file to follow.

Wow it was 2.5 years old topic and yes, we have to always backup before pack it. I am using ResEdit and no more you are able to open packed map file.

(the same files load fine as custom maps)

Which campaign and which file you are trying to import in?

The resource editor can extract the campaign maps so they are readable by the game's editor. The issue is that when the campaign files are packed into an h4r file, there are an additional 12 bytes added to the start of the file, which most of the other tools don't strip when extracting.

The resource editor so knows how to pack the campaign files into and h4r file.

I have successfully replaced a TGS campaign so that it was accessible through the game's campaign menu. There might be an issue with the base campaigns though. I'll have to try it out when I finally get back home in a couple days (hopefully).

After packed the files, no more you are able to edit packed file. This is why i am working on original files and duplicating the file before import the file.

Still if you have an issues about that, i can help you about that. ResEdit works well and he mentioned about the downside.

But there are other tools for extracting and importing which doesnt bug out as ResEdit2. I know others used it, but it never worked for me, just recommemding using other tools. Especially the Resource Editor is handy in various way, if you dont already have that.

actually, that's another important problem. I used resedit2 to pack Greatest Mod (clicking every single of hundreds of files manually). But then I lost the original table. And since resedit2 generates "bugged" h4r that not even itself can extract, now I can't update the mod due to the lack of the appropiate creature table (creating it from zero is not an option due to the hundreds/thousands of changes including on creature level and alignement).

If its the original unmodded table you need cant you just extract with another tool? So other tools cant open the ResEdited h4r file either?

Use Mh4 if not the ResourceEditor.. just bummer..

No, it's not the "original unmodded table" (that one is easy), it's the table used in Greatest Mod whose original (unpacked) file I lost.

To continue modding, I need to be able to edit it but that is no longer possible as the only remaining version is packed in an h4r made with resedit2 (unopenable)
