That's quite the impressive feat! You seem to be in the toughest group. Meanwhile, our team didn't even qualify!

Well, my U21 team is also doing quite well, after U20's blunder on our own turf. In a very powerful group we've beaten Belgium and, to everyones surprise, Italy which is the host. Only Spain left

We're in the semifinals!! And we are going to play at the Summer Olympics next year as well. Excellent work by our youngsters. I hope we'll see more of these players for the senior team in years to come. They have already made me and many others very happy.

Sorry about Poland, Blob...

Incredible performance, I am lost for words. Our first appearance at the Olympics in 50 years.

My dream is that this generation will set right what once went wrong and conquer America in 2026.

We led Germany 2-1 at halftime today but in the end, as they say in football, the Germans always win... with two goals in added time.

I'm sad we lost this way, but still it's been an amazing tournament and I hope this is only the beginning for this new Romanian generation.

This is one of the reasons why I can't stand Romanian football anymore. We always find excuses for our failures instead of getting results

"in the end germans always win" - phuck that, man! Really phuck that phrase! If we were any good we would have held up 10 more minutes if needed be. Heck, we should have held up 2 full years, or an eternity if need be. But no, instead we lose and always come up with "germans always win". No offense (and as someone who usually roots for Germany in major tourneys) but who the phuck is "germans"? Are they god? Are they the destiny? Why can they press, attack and believe they can win for 90 minutes, for 120 minutes, for trillion minutes if need be while we can't defend for the same trillion minutes? This is the mentality of small people and small nations. That's why we are where we are and we will never accomplish anything major as long as "in the end germans ALWAYS win".

Again, I'm not picking on you cause I have no reason at all. But you reminded me of our small nation mentality, and it's saddening because Romania is not a small nation, not by numbers and not by history. We have had many great personalities in politics, literature, science, medicine and so forth. A small nation (ie. a nation with the mentality of perpetual victim, or whatever you want to call it) never contributes to the progress of mankind like Romanians used to. Which means we are not small (read victims), and we should not indulge ourselves in this crippling attitude, but instead change ourselves.

If we want to accomplish great things again we need to rid ourselves of the failure mentality, and we can start by not believing in this "germans always win" lie again, because in reality, germans don't always win. And if they can lose once why can't they lose again?

Hey man, relax. I know it's a cliche that "germans always win" but I felt I had to say it. You expressed your opinion and I expressed mine. Simple.

And I'm not trying to find any excuses that we lost btw. Sorry if it came off like that.

Watched Brazil vs Argentina in the Copa America semifinals. Brazil won 2-0. I was expecting a win for them, but I also hoped Argentina would be more of a challenge for their rivals. Ah, well.

And by the way, I enjoy watching Brazil much more without Neymar.

I've watched it, too, Went to sleep at 2:02 and set my alarm clock to wake me up at 3:10 to watch the game.

I have bet on a draw either at HF or FT just because it had better odds, but deep inside I knew that Brazil would win. I didn't know they would also lead at HF, but I was 99% they'd win. They have a coach, while Argentina has hot temper, impertinence and - above all - nameless, sparkless zero-skill players (lo celso, paredes, acuna, de paul, martinez. Like, seriously?!? This is what you're gonna field to win Copa America while Di Maria and Dybala watch the game from the bench?!?)

And, like I said, Tite is a real coach, while Scaloni... well, mediocre player, mediocre coach. But hey, at least he's gut hot temper that will serve him for... um... nothing?

Brazil has deservedly won, and they will win this year's CA trophy without an issue. No matter what happens in the other game they'll have no problem blowing them apart (the key Chile players - sanchis, vidal, isla, medel - are too old, while Peru... well, Peru can win occasionally against the likes of Honduras, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay... in friendlies. The important South American teams are too big of a challenge for them).

I so wanted to watch the CAF but I had to leave to Germany to work, so I've missed all games after Morocco-Benin. Actually, I've also missed the Copa America final, too. What has happened in that final? Also, who has eliminated Egypt (the host of this year's CAF)? I'm so out-of-date...

Brazil won the final against Peru, 3-1.

And Egypt was knocked out by South Africa in the Round of 16. I didn't see the game but I know the president of the Egyptian FA resigned afterwards and the coach was sacked too.

well, WOW! Yeah, that has been a surprise considering how snowty SA has been in the last decade and how good Egypt have been in the last years, and they have been the hosts as well. I'm not gonna say that the match has been fixed, but such a failure - followed by such important resignations - definitely raises questions.

What has Brazil-Peru been like? Have you watched it? What has the scoreline been like and who have been the goalscorers? I knew that Brazil would win, but I would have still watched the game had I not been away cause Brazil - Peru games are usually spectacular... one way or another

There were two penalties in the Copa America final, one for Peru near the end of the first half and one for Brazil near the end of the second one, but I'd say both were correct. VAR was used as well if I recall correctly.

The score went: 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 halftime, then 3-1. Everton, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison (penalty) scored for Brazil, while Guerrero (penalty) scored for Peru.

Also, G. Jesus was sent off around the '70 minute mark for the 2nd yellow card, but Peru failed to take advantage of having the extra man. A deserved win for Brazil and a nice game.

This Brazil side may not be as great as some of their past glorious teams, but they're certainly the best in South America right now imo.

And of course reaching the final is nice for Peru. I liked their style at the 2018 world cup too and I felt they were unlucky in both of the games that they lost.

In the African Cup I expected Algeria to go far since they started well in the groups, but I wasn't sure they could go all the way. Unfortunately I couldn't watch the final myself.

thanks for the summary

I agree that Peru have been unlucky in the last WC, and I rooted for them against France (never liked France )

I also agree that Brazil are the best South American team at the moment. Argentina is worse due to the fact that they don't have a good manager, otherwise I think they'd be better. Anyway... I'm genuinely surprised that Coutinho is not on the scoresheet (has he even played??) .... Also, I don't understand Tite's obsession with Everton. I can't see how that player is better than Neres for example. Richarlison is OK (I mean, he's Ok considering the players that Brazil have fielded in the last couple of years), but otherwise I don't see either Richarlison or Everton being a definite starter-up. Oh well, Tite knows better.... probably...

As for CAF.... from the group stage games that I've watched I would have bet my money on Morocco with my eyes closed but they choked against Benin, so at that point the trophy was up for grabs by anyone, realistically speaking, with a plus for Egypt obviously because they've been the host, but... but they choked, too

As for Algeria, not sure why you've seen them as favorites. What good/known players do Algerians have? None of them comes to mind right now...
