Poll Question:
3rd choice for 2ndary for your 1st hero

Nice weekend everyone,

In the last thread, we've chosen the best secondary skill for our main hero, one which we'll choose whenever it appears right away. Logistics won a really tight race Actually, it was so tight I take the liberty of bypassing the 2nd best skill poll, for Earth would clearly got the place anyway.

That takes us to the next tier, where contestants are really diversified and harder to choose than the 1st polarized votes. So, suppose you had an imaginary hero with 2 skills of Logistics & Earth already, what would you choose next?

In this poll I'll try to avoid the last time mistake of not clarifying the scenario enough. Let's say it's the settings most players choose. You know, random map, king difficulty, no or normal water, yes underground, etc... Whatever perimeters else, just use common sense.

again - without seeing the results - I will venture and guess that Air will beat all skills hands down. There is absolutely no competition to casting DD 4 times a day. Some things in H3 are really broken, and the DD spell is one of them

I find it a bit weird. In the last poll Wisdom got 2 votes and Water 1, that's why I put them 1st in the current poll. Yet nobody has chosen them yet - maybe they're not online now?

DDx4 is 80 mana if memory serves. I wonder what state you guys are usually in when you obtain the spell. Like, when you 1st time put it to use, is the game already decided? Or you are in a disadvantage and DD helps you turn the table?

i cast it up to 4x per day as soon as i get it. I rarely care about having enough mana during fights because i rarely worry about casualties, and because i almost never engage in battles that i can't win easily. So, i cast DD as soon as i get it. It would be a shame getting your hands on such a spell and not spam it till it hurts your opponents

Then it's not really a game-changer, since you'll win without it anyway. Remember, this poll is about the very 3rd choice of skill. At this early time I usually only have Haste to use of Air.
I find it puzzling how you can choose your own battle and not get surprise-attacked without using View-xxx. In my games it happens occasionally. Maybe you have some tricks up your sleeves that I don't know yet?

You most likely won't have DD this early or Expert Wisdom for that matter. But if offered Air Magic you should take it, you might not get the chance again, besides Mass Haste is also extremely good.

Hmm you're right, I forgot that each of the elemental schools only gets 25% offered if any magic appears, as @Maurice's post said.

On another note, do you guys know about the troop combination rule when our heroes defend a siege? I'm pretty sure that I can lure the AIs to attack by leaving only 1 fodder in a hero in the visiting slot while putting the whole army into garrison. If I bring everything into the hero's slots then AIs won't attack.
The problem is, when they take the bait and siege, the game automatically combine troops between visiting and garrison, and any formation I had in the garrison is now messed up in no particular way I can realize. For example, 3 fodder slots in the garrison intended to cover the shooter are now into 1 big thing.
So how do I prevent it? Are there detailed rules on troop combination? Searching popular sources like 'Tribute to strategists' yielded nothing. Looks like we can't have it both way, having the cake and eating it?

This thread is a bit off. Considering I already have both Logistics and Earth, my third choice will probably be Wisdom but that is just because exceptions will offer it when I often need a safe skill to wait for the ones I really want like Water/Air and Archery.

Wisdom will be offered pretty often and won't help too much at that low level point...I would always chose tactics at that point. So many fights are much easier to handle when you got tactics...

Yep and that's reason I think it will be my third choice after Logistics and Earth. By my count I will need to pick a safe skill so I can wait for something really important like Archery, Water, Intelligence or Tactics and Wisdom will be offered meanwhile.
