Simple developing thoughts of each town
Castle:
Start
Poor: Marksmen+Pikemen
Rich: Go for Crusaders and Champions
After 1 week
Poor: Marksmen+Pikemen
Rich: Go for Zealots
After 1 week
Poor: Masksmen+Pikemen
Rich: Go for Angels
(I just hear Griffin crying in the toilet...)
Rampart:
Start
Get Centaurs and Grand Elves, then NEVER DEVELOP (Exchange town with AI if possible, because...).
Pegasi? Low HP and Low A/D
Dendroids? Too Slow
Unicorns? Too Weak as Lv6 creatures
Gold Dragons? Too costy!
Tower
Always Stuck in Mage Tower!
Always Stuck in Mage Tower!
Always Stuck in Mage Tower!
Gremlins + Garogoyles fight forever!
Gremlins + Garogoyles fight forever!

Good Heroes: Pyre, Carh, Igniutus, Ayden, Calid, Xeron

Easy Fight: Rush for Efreets in early game
Hard Fight: Get Efreets too late

Step one: Get Skeletons - Rush for Vampire Lords
Step two: Get Vampire Lords - Get more Skeletons
Step three: Skeleton Sea - ONE HIT K.O.!
Dungeon
Troglodytes & Harpies Owned!
Stuck in Beholder - (After weeks) Finally built...^_^!
Stuck in Minotaur - (After weeks) Finally built...^_^!
Stuck in Manticore - (After weeks) Finally built...^_^!
Stuck in Red Dragons - (After weeks) Finally built...^_^!
Then your enemy taking 20 Arch Angels and tons of others head to your main town......
Confluex
Good Heroes + Spirits + Storm Elementals = Yummy!
But why I have to build all creature generators to get my Firebirds!
Artifact Shops, too expensive!
Magic Academy, too expensive!
Stronghold
Good Heroes: Gurnisson, Grag Hack, Dessa, Gundula, Terek, Saureg
Does this town have Lv3, Lv4 and Lv6 creatures?
Fortress
Step 1: Gnolls + Lizard Worriers owned!
Step 2: Wyvern + Tent go for the Dragonfly Trees (Get more wyverns)
Step 3: Mighty Gorgons go for wild Lv7 nests and Dragon Utopia.

Calid and Octavia are both good for getting resources.

No, Calid is probably even the worst Inferno hero. It isn't demoniac, has learning skill and sulfur isn't concern of Inferno 
I don't pick Ayden,Zydar or Pyree as starting either. Only Octavia, Calh or Fiona.
