Thanks a lot for giving it a try, though it didn't work out, at least now I know that I cannot do anything about it until someone makes a no cd patch for the heroes4 file or the official patch for the europeen patch gets out...
mmmh...wonder why the us ver. is diffrent from mine, mine ver. is english as well....

The patch fixes atleast 50% of the issues I had with the game (the combat screen).  If you right click on an opponent you see there movement grid, very nice

Now another 25% will be fixed if AI is actually decent, then the last 25% will come when they get it all balanced, and improve on some misc. things.

THEY DID IT!!

THEY FIXED THE AI!!!  Okay, well not 100%... but they did make a few decent changes.  CelestialHeavens.com reported that there are fixes not in the readme, one of which is to the AI's ability to effectively deal with neutral stacks.  That will be a huge bonus, at least making the hardest difficulty somewhat challenging.  YAY!!  The other change was the AI no longer stalls in front of its own castle... I imagine that'll make the challenge a little better as well.

I just downloaded the patch, but I'm having trouble installing it. It works fine until it gets to 94%, where it's supposed to update the map "Zanfas's Challenge." It gives an error message that says "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."

I just e-mailed 3DO customer support(what an oxymoron) I wonder; I alter the maps periodically - could this be my problem? But all the other maps updated fine...

But apparently if one thing bombs, everything bombs - the combat grid isn't an option for me, so until I get this map thingy fixed, I won't be able to enjoy what the new patch has to offer.

Anyone know what my problem might be?

Yes most likely.  Their patch is very very very very very picky.

I'd recommend a complete uninstall, then a fresh reinstall, then not even playing the game, and then running the patch.

well, it patched fine for me... ?

But I haven't edited any old maps, just created new ones.  Maybe it really is just that picky.  Weird.  It should just ask if you don't mind replacing the old map if it's not the one it expected.  Unless the patcher actually stores which bytes to change in each file, instead of storing the whole file... that would make sense, and make a patch much smaller than it would be otherwise.

Not worth much but...

Give a100pieces a quality point...
no, give him two.

He did something that all those people appreciate and if that's not heroic action then it's same to throw all those quality points to trash.

He even uninstalled the game and installed the game so that I could try the fresh installed exe files from his us ver. Cause I have the europeen ver. It didn't work, but he tried.
That is a true hero!

I don't exactly relish the idea of completely re-installing the game...I'll see what 3DO responds with...
