A fictional stories hub and books

Hi guys!

Do you know a hub similar to Webnovel? That thing were you can write stories and get paid after some time?

Also, would like a suggestion on what books to read to enhance fiction writing skills.

Thanks a lot!!!

Oddball might be able to shed some light on this matter. If he is still among us, that is...

Thank you! I tried searching on the net and I can't find any. Maybe I should search more thoroughly.

However, its just so odd that Oddball is not around for an odd amount of time. I hope he is doing okay and is not blocked from HC.

Not sure about places to write and share stories, but as far as books go... well, if you want something advanced and epic fantasy, Malazan Book of the Fallen is a series I've fallen in love with.

However if you haven't gone entirely blinkering insane, good alternatives could be things like The Wheel of Time, the Stormlight Archives, Dresden Files or The Witcher. All of them are appreciably different from one another, and all of them are well-regarded within their genres and by audiences for a reason, so reading them to appreciate their plots and to learn how to write with that style would be a viable option.

Thanks a lot Gnomes! You have some spicy list there.

I've done research about those books. The Malazan book looks tempting! But yeah, you already warned me. I think I am not ready for it. Wheel of Time seems realy good too! Actually, Binabik suggested that to me also. However, it has like 10? 15 books? I don't think I could buy all of them or read all of the (I am kinda of lazy, sometimes). Witcher looks good too but now that its so popular, it kinda turned me off. But i'll put it on my list. Maybe one day, I'd find it something good to read.

I am eyeing the Game of Thrones books but they are not finished yet. And I don't want to buy an unfinished set. I am also looking to buy some Raymond Feist books. I kind of need something that is not too hard to understand. Something that is light to read.

Aside from the fiction books, could you also advise me non-fiction self-help books? I have here some of those kind of books but they are more focused on non-fiction writing. I've already started reading one. It was good but I am afraid that its not the right thing I should be reading if I want to enhance my fiction writing skills. Actually, I kinda feel deviated from my goals so I stopped.

Joe Abercrombie, The Blade Itself and following from there. Best fantasy series, bar none.

Just as a note, Abercrombie is also known as Lord Grimdark, and his series is veeeery daaaaaaaaaaaark. It's still undoubtedly a fantastically written series, but it's harsh.

As for actual writing help books... Well, here's a few resources:

Books
On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King
The Writer's Journey: Mythic Structure For Writers by Christopher Volger (This one is targeted at screenplays, but can easily be worked into a general writing resource as well)
The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell (A contemporary work that focuses on the "Hero's Journey" type of story that is common in fantasy and other fictional works. It's come under fire a bit for purporting to be the "Monomyth" and thus claiming that all stories are a Hero's Journey, but for that story style and in general there are some good tips in here.)
Story by Robery McKee (A collection of tips, tricks and rules for telling a cohesive story, regardless of media you are producing for)

Youtube Channels
Writing About Dragons (A collection of lectures by Brandon Sanderson  (the author of Stormlight Archive, which I recommended above) about writing stories. Brandon is one of the most prolific and well-known names in fantasy writing currently, and while some of his tips are a bit basic, in general this is just a good collection of world-building and plot pacing advice.
Hello Future Me (A FANTASTIC channel that has hundreds of videos on various fantasy series, writing, world building, and trope avoiding or exploiting tips. Also so many videos about THEMES and COMPARISONS in fiction and television.)
Overly Sarcastic Production's Trope Talks (Where a chibi anime girl avatar named "Red" talks about tropes in fiction and how to use them and avoid pitfalls relating to them and it's just so lovely. I love it. Fight me.)

So... yeah. Just a few references for you up there.

I totally forgot about this! Glad I visited the sacred place!

Thank you so much for your input guys! I'll put those to my list.

Right now I was looking to try Inkitt. I did a little research about the app and it seemed a bit complicated with all those writing procedure and stuff. Also, I think most of their published books have Romance genre and I'm kinda feeling a bit turned-off. Although I didn't read thoroughly, just had that impression with all those things in their intro page.

@Oddball
Yeah, they said theirs. What about yours? I could use all the suggestion from you guys.
