Fort Triumph

So there is this banner flying over our good ole forums that was not there several months ago. The words on it say "Fort Triumph" they also say "HoMM" and "X-Com". And seeing as I love all those things, I decided to give it a try.

I'm only a couple of hours in, but I gotta say that so far I am have quite a lot of fun. It doesn't seem to be too challenging or deep, but it definitely has this nostalgic feel about it. The adventure map is very reminiscent of old HoMM, including the music. The combat is indeed X-Com-ish, but far less punishing. It also puts a LOT of emphasis on object interaction. Nearly everything can be moved with certain abilities and moving objects into enemies stuns them (the enemies, not the objects). So it does raise questions such as "do I want to stay behind a tree to avoid ranged attack, but potential let the enemy fighter kick said tree on my head?".

The story and characters a very simplistic and are either all out tropes or sarcastic spins on such tropes. Which only adds to the general feel of nostalgia for some reason. All in all, I'm having fun.

P.S. Also, the developers are based in Israel and they somehow made their way to this forum, so I'm wondering if one of the former members (GL?) is connected to this somehow.

Alright, so this is actually on steam? Bet there's a mobile version too. Saw the first video, art and graphics seem to be on the "cute" side, maybe not a bad idea after all. Tactically, could be alright with all the environmental gimmicks and stuff.

I don't know man, sometimes I get this itch for some good M&M action, but I really feel like there has to be something definitive and related to the franchise. This would pass as a good unofficial spin-off at best, nothing preserving continuity and legacy of the original. Which is something that bothers me. Maybe I've grown too picky for my own good. Or rather, there's so many good games out there that being picky is not even a problem anymore.

For sure, I would play a good M&M game in a heartbeat, no second thoughts. But this? Maybe worth a try if I had time on my hands, which I currently don't. It would mean dropping AOW Planetfall which I have no plans to do anytime soon.

Waiting for quality M&M mostly.

Oh I don't think it's supposed to be some kind of spiritual successor to HoMM. It draws a lot of inspiration from it and some of the feel is there, but it's still a different game.

And yes, it is out on both Steam and GoG.

I'm personally waiting for Song of Conquest, I think it will scratch that HoMM each quite nicely.
