Anime & Manga Thread

Minasan, Youkoso!

Welcome to the official anime and manga thread of Heroes Community! The purpose of this thread is to enjoy, share and celebrate all things related to anime and manga.

I meant to make this thread sooner, but I've been busy lately, a lot. I did not want to disappoint either. So, after setting some time aside to prepare, here it is!

To mention this too - the main reason why I've decided to abandon the old thread in favor of this one is because, while there were enough active people and the thread got over 100 pages, it was everyone discussing their anime and manga experience (which is the aim of this thread), but at the same time it was called Bixie's best of Shonen Manga. I had requests to the mods for a name change, but they've gone unnoticed or ignored. So, in favor of better visibility and promoting an accurate context, I've decided to make this thread. I invite everyone interested to participate!

The topic of this thread is largely about, but not limited to, anime and manga. You can also post things surrounding them. As long as the spirit of the thread is preserved, it is most likely okay to post. For example, Visual Novels (VNs), Anime Music Videos (AMVs), anime games or the like, doujinshi, fan art, news, events, wikis, etc. All can be posted, as long as they don't break the rules of this forum or purpose of this thread.

Speaking of rules:
Firstly, following the forum's Code of Conduct (CoC), it is prohibited to post explicit content of any kind, verbal, graphic, etc. So steer clear of those, otherwise the forum's LPD, better known as the mods, will find you and get you and boy, do they like doing their jobs... (they don't actually, and they like taking it out on you, so don't give them any reasons!)
Secondly, since we don't have a spoiler tag or anything like that on this forum, you'll have to avoid giving out heavy spoilers with gratuity. Everyone wants to enjoy their experience, don't go ruin it for them. Practice some caution. Using a small warning, like "Spoilers ahead!" or something similar, is very much advised.

Last but not least, some useful links maybe, I'll update these if there are other suggestions:

MyAnimeList, or MAL for short. Very good for searching anime and manga, as well as keeping up to date with the news and seasonal releases.
KissAnime, where I usually watch my anime. I also used 9anime and gogoanime before. - KissAnime and KissManga were shut down on August 15, 2020. RIP
MangaPanda, always read my manga here (it's been a while though), or on MangaReader.
Crunchyroll and Funimation if you want to keep it legit.
Webtoon, found out about it recently, digital manhwa mostly from South Korea if I understood right.

From blob2:
Also WatchMojo has some nice anime related montages from time to time: WatchMojo youtube channel
VIZ is one of the top manga publishers in USA. They have a pretty active and geeky Twitter channel link.

Alright everyone, I can feel the fun times ahead of us. Let's get this thread rolling!!

I could agree. I still haven't seen Ghost in the Shell, maybe I should try it soon.

I got around Tower of God though, I think it was okay, but pacing was awkward again. I picked up the manhwa on Webtoon, it's how I got there on that website. It's showered in praise and I'm somehow curious, gotta see if it's actually good. Heard the drawings got a lot better over the years.

Currently watching Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T, basically the 3rd season of the spin-off (which is better than the Majutsu original story). Heard it got delayed, corona hits... the usual. Fine by me, as long as it's decent by the time it finishes.

I still watch anime that I feel nostalgic for from time to time: Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon. They may not be the best of the genre but they remind me of some happy times.
There are also anime that I've watched a bit later without seeing them first as a little child, like Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho or Sailor Moon. Then there are a few that I've seen in my late teens: Code Geass, Berserk or Hellsing Ultimate.

There were others that I never got into despite the hype around at the time, like Naruto. And more series that I started watching but lost interest in: Death Note, Fairy Tail, City Hunter

The only manga that I've read is Shaman King because the anime ended on a cliffhanger and I heard the manga was different. I was not disappointed.

The manhwa is good, but is unfortunately nowhere near completion. I'd classify it as a soft shonen, it utterly lacks most tropes, the only consistently present one being upping your power level.

I do not watch much anime these days but have enjoyed the adaption of Love is War.

As to manga, I could not even begin to tell you how many series I am reading.  It sucks when it takes months to get translations; I usually forget where the story left off.  That is the major reason I stopped enjoying D. Gray-Man.  I have no idea what the Hell is going on anymore.

Love is War is a good series, I enjoyed both anime seasons a lot.

I'm more on the anime side, but have read some manga as well, and I know what you mean. It's a problem, they're usually on-going and after you read all there is, there's nothing left but to start something else. Then time passes and new chapters get published, but it's kinda hard to pick it back up and get as much into it as before. The pause disconnects the feeling of it. It's also why I prefer binge watching anime, I'm not left hanging for the next episode and the fluidity makes for an optimized experience.

I'm not sure what app you're using for reading manga, but it hopefully has a bookmark feature? So you can easily go back whenever. If not, you can always use MAL or something.

Yea, I remember all those names you mentioned. One time I felt I just had to watch Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z to experience again what I saw when I was little on TV, this time actually following through with all the episodes. I'm probably going to do the same thing with Yu Yu Hakusho and InuYasha at some point. It's also because of a sense of completion, maybe the stories were actually decent so I'm curious. But no immediate plans in that regards for now.

Its title It was a bit confusing as it was supposedly about shounen. As Stevie mentions this thread is about Japanese cartoons and it's ilk

In order to suplement info that Stevie provided:
Direct link to Summer of 2020 anime list: https://myanimelist.net/anime/season
Also TopAnimeWeekly youtube channel which is good to catch teasers (or Promo Videos, PV in short, as they are called) of upcoming anime: link. Summer 2020 "top anime": link.
Also WatchMojo has some nice and fun anime related montages from time to time: WatchMojo youtube channel.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally I keep track of how much anime I watched (well, at least since the moment I started to keep track of it cus I also watched some as a kid). Currently my "track record" stands on 178 days and 13 hours and 29 minutes of anime (not to mention continiously re-watching some scenes on youtube ). When it comes to manga I've read a lot when I was younger. Have a couple of shelves full of tomes. Currently I only read a few titles regulary. I didn't read any light novel. Ever.

It started off as Bixie's best of shonen manga, derailed and became so much more along the way. I figured it would be high time for HC to have a dedicated anime and manga thread that reflected that sentiment. The name also matters for visibility, someone from the outside might just join in for that very reason.

I'm not trying to detract from any of that thread's merits at all. Its a spiritual predecessor that people should check out, I added a link to it in the OP. It's completely fine to post there if anyone so desires, but I always wanted to register my input on a dedicated thread. Hopefully this one takes off.

Forgot to mention: VIZ is one of the top manga publishers in USA. They have a pretty active and geeky Twitter channel link. What's interesting they also release a lot of dedicated supplements related to m&a like artbooks. I like to check their channel from time to time, even if I'm not that much into cosplay or "celebrating culture".

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude..... Really?!!

Alright, I am extremely curious. I wanted to know how much I've seen myself, so I made a MAL account recently and added all of them (or at least the ones I remember, I think it's about 90% accurate, without the ones from my childhood). If anyone wants to check out my profile - Link

I keep track on it a polish m&a site. They have a neat feature that summerizes the timespan of all anime you added to your list as "completed". Well it's based on your honesty as it simply adds anime you ranked, but I NEVER rank animes that I didn't complete first. That's how I know the total days/hours. I can't share this as this profile info is only available to the user. I can copy the list but don't want to spam the thread with 642 items

Yea, I guess it relies on honesty, but I'm not watching anime to brag... Is that even a thing? Seems like a terrible reason to watch anime.

I think it depends on resolution, it's fine on my 1920 x 1080 monitor. Probably not fitting for mobile or such. Guess speeding it up to the next page it is then!

It's not bragging. It's actually sad that I spend at least 178+ days of my life watching cartoons I would say the number is rather some fun trivia if anything. I won't say I'm some kind of anime specialist becasue I'm not. I simply watched a hell ton of it
