I don't think comic book-type movies are ever going to go away completely. Even before there were such a thing as comic books people used to tell and write stories about folk heroes and such, and a lot of them had larger-than-life powers. People love heroes & villains duking it out.

Also Kip of all people (apocalypse incoming?) had the answer most to my liking to this topic, I don't believe anyone (and by this I mean a reasonable amount of people besides a handful of incels on forums) has a problem with female leads IF THEY ARE INTERESTING CHARACTERS. Ripley and Sarah are probably among my all time favorite protagonists, and they are both female. What makes them good you say? They are well written characters, with flaws and struggles that they must overcome to become victorious. That makes for a story arc.

Now what we often get is perfect females with no insecurities, no flaws, no weaknesses and who beat anyone with no effort. They just come and know eveything about quantum mechanics, martial arts, etc. That is simply boring film making. It is that simple.

And yes I know a lot of backlash is unwarranted. It always is.

You were directly quoting and supporting a post that talked about Captain Marvel. It’s called a context.
I'm glad u mention context. "There are plenty of female heroes, not only in fiction but in real life." I would say this shows contempt not support. Then I proceed with the explanation of why I think this is happening, to assume I'm talking about Cap. Marvel is just you looking for a mischaracterization to better suit your argument.

This. And this is also the result of arguments written to pander instead of engage.

About the role model thing. Although MCU presents the cool and shiny style of heroes I think super-heroes as role models are thing of the past. Today the more captivating comics are about flawed heroes and their identity crisises or even anti-heroes (we have a bit of these sprinkled between MCU movies, but generally they are classic superhero flicks). That's why Batman is considered a favourite. Or why we have TV series like The Boys.

I mentioned this many times but what I find great about MCU is that they are good adaptations (mostly good cast, true to source material, just cartoony enough to not treat itself too seriously), make sense as a whole, have humor and are literally for everyone: fans are pleased, casuals have a great time. They simply strucked the perfect balance.

Ryan Johnson's The Last Jedi was a dumb movie, but even in The Force Awakens there were people complaining about Rey being a Mary Jane even though she wasn't. Substitute She-Rey with He-Rey, and I doubt hardly anybody would have cared if he had beaten Kylo Ren at the end of the movie in the forest.

@bloodsucker

Dude, you continue that sentence  by saying “ But since the goal isn't acknowledge them but spit in the face of white men, it only counts if it's our identity that is being trashed one way or another” and you do it while people are directly talking about Captain Marvel. It’s fine if you werent so but it sure wasnt making a strange jump to assume you did.

Wow, the butthurt sjw's really came out of the woodwork since my last post, and pretty aggressively, i might add.

I guess i'm supposed to feel angry, or ashamed, or something akin to being a "privileged white male"?

Nope. Just contempt. Can't say that i'm even disappointed anymore. This has become routine.

No and no.

But I've explained this to you before. You ignore what I say and instead resort to strawmen and inaccurate exaggerations of what I said.

Fred, you are the one complaining, the world in your head must be as fictional as the marvel universe if that makes the other guys butthurt. You dont need to feel ashamed, you just need to realize you dont make sense, a female lead and a male villain doesnt turn a movie into sjw propaganda.

It's called "having common bleeping sense", you soys should try it to replace your reality defying world views of bullcrap.

Yes, writing is key, and if it's done right, it'll be enjoyable for consumption, doesn't matter if the subject in question depicted in the story is male, female or one of the made up... 72 was it..? mental illnesses. although you don't see any good stories involving the latter, all the best characters are either male or female, no matter the medium of entertainment. People simp for Samus Aran and Kerrigan all over the web too for instance.

Also, trying to group me with Supreme Gentleman Elliot Rodger's fanclub is very insulting.  They are yet another offshoot of weak men with a reality defying worldview that world owes them sex or something. I demand a penalty and a year long silence for that one.

Btw did you hear that Soft-Cheese Larson wants to play Samus Aran? I loved the comment of one of the fans of the latter "mkay, as long as she doesn't take off her helmet through the entire movie".

Any hero today, is an anti-hero to some degree. They even gave Superman a dark side and identity crisis in his latest movies. Modern audiences cant relate to plain heroes. They find them one-dimensional, dull and distant. And they are. A plain hero is something you’d find in some medieval morality play or some pulp fiction from 19th century etc. Anti-hero is the norm now.
