The COVID-19 Experience

Today, at 5 AM in the morning, I woke up 2 hours before my alarm with an intense headache that spanned from ear to ear all across my frontal lobe. I tried going back to sleep to no avail and realized that I wouldn't be able to perform at work if it kept up. Needless to say, that became the least of my worries very fast. I took a pill and used cotton balls and alcohol at around 6 AM to try to suppress the headache. Also around that time I noticed that I had the chills and was sweating all across my face, my neck and my back. At 6:30 I decided to take another pill and informed my brother who was awake by then that I was feeling unwell and probably couldn't go to work. I then informed my manager about it and went back to bed, getting about an hour of rest before hearing him messaging me back at around 8 AM.

We started discussing about my health. My headache had subsided by then and the chills and sweat were mostly gone, but I still felt the lingering effects and was in no shape for work. To be more precise, fatigue and that background dizziness after getting over my headache. At around 9 AM he informed me that I'll have off for today, but I will need to go at a contracted clinic for investigations. This was to say that I needed to figure out as soon as possible if I had COVID-19 or not.

Shortly after I made an appointment for 1:40 PM and then called my close relatives to let them know. They were all worried and asked me a lot of questions, mostly about my symptoms and how things are going to unfold for me. I told them that I was mostly feeling fine, but that the visits I had planned for September are no longer an option, just to stay on the safe side. I also wanted to open this thread around that time but I was in a hurry and sounded incoherent, so I decided I would do that later.

I proceeded with the appointment and found the clinic after a series of misses that could've passed for a great comedy skit with some Benny Hill's music in the background, which admittedly started playing in my head after the 3rd place sent me somewhere else again. But anyway, I went through a quick trial and saw the doctor moments later. She was covered from head to toe in plastic and, after something which looked like a routine profile check and signing of documents, explained to me with some detail the type of test I took - PCR. Basically, samples gathered from the nose (2) and mouth (1). The first two went so far up my nostrils that I was left surprised despite having prepared myself for it. It was past the point of being unpleasant that you'd sneeze (for which she gave me tissue, which proved unnecessary) and more along the lines of feeling hurt, like after having water going down your nose. For the mouth, I opened wide, had my tongue out and said a long A while she gathered the sample. She complimented my compliance with the procedure, telling me how she had people try to fight her hand away and numerous other incidents. I also realized with her help that I was in a room where people who were actually infected by the virus would come daily to take the test, not exactly a comfortable thought. Needless to say I didn't hang around, so after paying up the fee at the desk from my own wallet, I left, knowing that the results would be delivered to my online medical profile in less than 72 hours.

Back home at around 3:30 PM I started updating everyone that I had taken the test. I got contacted by HR from work to give them a detailed run-through of what happened and said mostly what's above. I got asked if I had contact with anyone found COVID-19 positive, I said not that I know of. I was then listed names of coworkers I made contact with the week prior, I confirmed some and gave others. I made it a point to explain that I was doing that with a maximum of sincerity, not because I wanted anyone to suffer or interrupt the flow of work, but rather because I wanted to be in everyone's best interest should it come to taking measures if the worst came to surface. Before wrapping up the conversation, I was also promised to get my money refunded for the test, since it would've been free of charge had not everything been moving so fast that they couldn't make the necessary arrangements.

For the days to come up until I get the results, I have been advised to work from home if my health allows it. It's a very delicate time for the project I'm participating in and my presence is quite essential. At the very least finding a replacement on such short notice would be close to impossible.

Finally, I decided to write this thread. My intention was to create a place where people could share or talk about firsthand experience with the virus, or at least as close at possible to that, to serve as cautionary tales, advice, or just reading on someone's life experience surrounding the issue. I did not post this to serve its way into a debate, which is why I didn't post it in the OSM. I am also wary of hearsay and secondhand experience, so please keep it as personal as you can if you wish to post - what you know, what you've seen with your own eyes, not what someone else told you or media news.

As of yet I am not a confirmed case, but at the very least I am a suspect that took the test. I feel I've taken all the necessary steps to avoid spreading or having unnecessary or harmful contact. The people involved have also been very helpful and I very much appreciate that. Should this thread be well received, I will post updates with whatever important events will follow, but given how things can get hectic, I won't promise to do that with any expedience.

Hey, hopefully this is a false alarm and the test turns out negative. I think you behaved properly although your case only shows how many people can be impacted by a single persons predicament. Not only before the symptoms start to show people could've already been infecting other people, there is also the problem that the identification of a contagion source is based entirely on a persons social responsebility.

I know it's a silly question, but do you at least have a suspicion where you could've got infected? Most infections seem to be connected to events like weddings, or places of work as opposed to hanging in public or in shops.

My cousin who is a doctor the same as his wife were quarantined two times already becasue someone in their proximity was tested positive. Once his wife was isolated and needed to live alone for a week in her grandmothers house (she didn't have contact with my cousin back then so the whole family wasn't quarantined). Other time the whole family was "grounded" for a week until the tests came back and were negative.

My co-worker had a "funny" story. His girflriend is also a doctor and they were going on a cousins wedding one weekend. They literally got a call in front of the church that one of her co-workers was test-positive so as you might've assumed they needed to go back immidiately, get a test and be quarantined for a week (result was negative).

I myself am not even afraid to get sick. I'm rather afraid of the consequences I can bring to others if such a scenario happens.

I got to take the test to determine if I had the most retarded pandemic virus ever.

You know the one where they shove the test q-tips deep into your nostrils.

Came out negative.

Was the most retarded health procedure they did for me.

My best guess would be from work. Last week we were notified of a confirmed case and that the people who were in close contact had been told to take the test as well. I was not one of them, so I didn't get a flag from there. Regardless, the entire company was sent home for a day so they could disinfect.

Second guess would be the hour long commute via public transport. Though I'm not sure how exactly would anyone go looking for clues there.

But weren't you with some sort of sickness months ago already? You even commented here and there that it was something serious. Is it not related or am I confused?

Either way, I got positive and asymptomatic. Just knew I had it because someone close had it, accompanied with symptoms. I would not know otherwise.

Nah, bottom line on that is that I was playing tricks on HC. It had some truths in it, like the fact that I haven't been active much and wasn't paying attention to the forum as I used to. It was also a jab at fred's thread (hence the title), and it was also posted during a very convenient global context that added to the dramatic tone. It was in no way connected to what's happening now though.

But I don't want to miss the truly important part from your post - I didn't know pandas can get sick too. Was it long ago? How did you deal with it? Would definitely be interested in reading your experience with the virus, if you'd like to share.

Just passed like one week? I really don't have much more to say, because I have no idea from where I got it. Probably from the market or restaurant, which are, aside gym, the only places I go that might not be clean enough. And I had no symptoms, so I really wouldn't know. But my gf got that, and she might have gotten from me. That's still a mystery.

Last night I got my bro to help me out with buying a thermometer and I checked my temperature. It wasn't going above 36.9 C after 5 minutes under the armpit. Then he left for an apartment the company rented for him and stayed the night there, that's just how much they didn't want anybody near me. Today I had 36.3 C in the morning, so body temperature seems fine.

On top of missing other symptoms like lack of taste/smell and coughing, the ones that did show seem pretty much gone now. I really doubt I have it, but other people need certainty so they want those results.

Oh, a note for immunity: curcumin, Omega 3, magnesium, D-vitamin; basically that helps a lot. Some people chew a small piece of garlic in the morning and have a soup spoon of aple cider vinegar in the night, to help with the throat's disinfection: considering this goddamn virus multiplies mostly there.

And taking care of your mind health also. Not freaking out or focusing too much on bad stuff.

The problem seems to be that the immune system must not be too "strong" either - basically it must not "panic" and start to inflame everything it discovers the virus in.
"Strong" isn't maybe the right word for it. More like "attentive", which I suppose is something you can't steer with immune-supporting stuff like that.

Results are already in. In 100 RNA copies they could not identify the virus. They're saying this indicates I was not infected when I took the test. I informed work and relatives.

HR people definitely sounded relieved, probably because they didn't have to proceed with whatever measures they had readied, sending people to get tested, make the rest empty the premises, resume work from home, all that great stuff...

I'm still going to stay home this week and focus on getting better. Need to honor another appointment this Thursday to see if I can get a clear read on what's going on. Hopefully nothing too serious.

And with that, I guess my run with the COVID-19 is already over? More like it never started. Well, no complaints really, just kinda anticlimactic after yesterday.

Hope it stays like that.

Although the majority get the light symptoms, there's the minority and aside the casualties, some of the recovered can develop chronic ailments – which has been one of the worries regarding this friggin' virus.

This virus spreads better than the SEO specialists promoted my business. To be honest, during the quarantine, I had enough time to find a lot of useful information on the Internet. For example, I read more about Google analytics on the site https://www.owox.com/blog/articles/ropo-effect/. I was also able to start doing sports at home. I've never had the virus, but I think I'm ready to face it.

Yes, this virus seems to be dragging out life. In connection with it, they began to load us heavily at the university. But I was able to laugh in the face of the teacher and no covid bothered me, thanks to the site essaylab.co.uk. If you have a problem with your studies, I strongly advise you to familiarize yourself.
