I try to find presents ranging from 30-50 euros, so it goes to somethin like 250 euros at its very most. I buy presents for my siblings, my niece and my godson.

Can't wait for Christmas

I usually gift myself with something. The most important gift for other people is my fluffy friendship, love and occasional smudging.

I also "gift myself" and tell others to give me money as a return of costs (ofc we are talking family members, if other people want to give me some random presents then be my guest). This way I don't end up with presents that are useless to me (unless they're "never knew I needed that" type, but those are rare cases). Yeah, I'm not a good target for gift-giving, sorry I know the best what I like (hate those "I thought you will like..." type of presents). If I have a general idea, but not a specific product in mind (for example I don't know which models of a face shavers are popular atm etc) I give free reigns to the gift-giver. My family members don't have a problem with it.

It goes the other way around also: I ask what they want and if the budget is reasonable I buy it (and don't make me sound stingy, I can be pretty generous if needed be). If a present is specified, that is also less work for me Although there is one present that I'm proud of that I actually suggested on my own to my mother and she says it's one of the most useful and on-point presents that she got - a Kindle.

Thus the budget will vary depending on the presents...

Presents for our family are to be fun (games), goofy (something that brings laughter to whole family), heartfelt (something memoribilia for example). Last thing on any ones mind is to be upset he or she got something they didn't like That just sounds so weird. It is a joyous occasion, not a ransom demand. xD

That's ok. Still, it'll be etched in my memory for ever. PUhohohohoho.

To complement my first answer, I get gifted regularly all Christmas by the same friends. Although they give me something that's difficult not to be right, like a t-shirt or a t-tank, I really don't mind either way.

I usually gift people randomly through the year, not because of an important date. I gift when I feel like it. But I only do it when I am certain it'll be useful or, at least, very important symbolically. Sometimes, it's in a whim.

That sounds great Pandatar. I can imagine some really happy faces

Our whole family only is able to get together twice a year (some years only once) so they are precious times. We all live around the country, at different parts, so it is not easy to schedule whole family together.

Yeah, you bet. It's always good surprising people like that. People still think it's odd when you spring up with a gift out of the blue, but they are very delighted either way.

And I know the feeling of far away people as well. But my family is even much more difficult to gather. It took me 10 years to see my mother in Peru, it's been around 5-6 years last I saw my father. My closest sister (geographycally speaking) something like that too. She is 1.000 km from here. The others are spread like 2.5k kms, up to 4k kms away. And flying here is expensive. Sometimes it's more expensive than traveling abroad. =(

None.

I don’t agree with the idea of commercial celebrations in general. They put a price on things that should be held at a much higher value.

Then again, I don’t agree with most celebrations. I think they’re pointless. If there are things you think are worth celebrating, then they should be important enough to be remembered all the time.
