Griffons are my favorite. With Grandmaster Summoning you just keep getting more and more. Cast Dragon Strength on a large stack and they can do some really heavy damage.

Based on Equilibris 5.1 my favorites for each faction are as follows:
Life: Angels, Resurrection can minimize losses
Order: Genies, Versatile spellcaster
Death: Ice Demons, These guys are great to summon with a demonologist.
Chaos: Minotaur, Block is awesome!
Nature: Sprites, No retaliation is brutal and summoning gives me lots.
Might: Thunderbirds, Zap!

Life- Champions (they are very strong when they have lucky)
Order- No idea but maybe Titan
Chaos- Medusa 
Death- Of course Vampire
Nature- Mantis wowww
Might-Cyclops (i think they are best monsters of this game)

Chaos - Black Dragon - no doubt, I like the Dragon
Life - Crusader - no only the good ability, but also the flash shining amour, more shining than the champion .
Death - Vampire - It's hard to make a decision between Vampire and Devil, they are both nice, but the vampire has the better ability.
Order - Titan - great giant
Might - no especial favourite
Nature - also no.

chaos-Medusa.simply cant beat their special effect
life-angels.i have always been fond of the resurrect spell and considering the fact it is the only one available(excluding vampirism) it is a great special
order-gotta love those titans 
death- the usual life sucking vampires
might-thunderbirds are ok imo
nature-the closest thing to resurrect is our lovely phoenix.

Nature: Griffins - a dragon strengh and a snake strike - close to unbeatable!
Life: Hmmm, angels, I think?
Might: Thunderbirds
Chaos: Black dragon!
Order: I think it must be the genies! Illusion spells and ice bold a great! Only they stand no chance against a magic resistant hero og creature, sadly :-(

and for me :
haven : angel (resurrection)
order : golem dragon (untouchable)
preserve : phoenix (fast, fire breath and resurrects itself  )
chaos : hydra (mass killer)
death : devil (summon demon)
might : no idea
special mention for the mantis, bind is great, actually, it would beat the phoenix, if he didn't have rebirth

Life: hate this faction, but I'll choose...Archer!
Nature: too many favourites, but I'll go with the Faerie Dragon (love Water Elemental and Waspwort too)
Order: Genie, it's spells destroy enemies.
Chaos: Nightmare (but Medusa and Minotaur come close)
Death: Bone Dragon (although I love Venom Spawn)

Good old vamps, without a doubt. Great looks, (though the original vamp lord is still better-looking) general borderline IMBAness, relatively easy to get- if I weren't a fan of game-breaking uber-monsters, and/or a diehard multiplayer, I would probably say they're the worst, but as long as my opponent is an unfeeling AI, I can't help, but laugh maniacally each and every time I play Infernopolis. In my experience, blazing through a map commanding a never-dwindling, ever-growing horde of undead minions is quite a relaxing and pleasant exercise.
