Just kidding...

I will have more free time starting tomorrow, but I will be truly free after the 22nd. In the meantime, I can help people with characters, and figuring out what option is best for the group.

More specific details will depend on what we end up playing, but expect to see more historical/fantasy versions of countries you're familiar with, along with some that completely deviated from current history.

For example, one of the major sideeffects of the Sundering was the explosion of the Yellowstone supervolcano. That changed the map of North America forever, both physically and politically. The consequences of that affect the locals even long after the Exodus, while living on Atuin (TRAPPIST-1g).

Setting info...

A rough description of the setting, so that you guys can have a bit more context.

On the surface, everything happened in exactly the same manner as it did in RL, up until 2010. That was when the Sundering happened, one of the three major events in Terran history.

In the midst of a global chain of natural disasters, the scale of which had never been seen before, the people of Earth saw strange portals opening in key locations. From there, poured out vast armies of all manners of fantastic creatures, and even more fantastic beasts.

Perhaps more impressive was the fact that, with them, came humans seemingly lost in time. Knights in full plate stood guard before millions of refugees, hoplites marched down the street, eagle and jaguar warriors descended upon unsuspecting policemen, and so on.

Between the devastation caused by the natural disasters, and the conflict between the populace and the newcomers, more than four billion souls were lost, reducing Earth to a highly volatile and scarcely populated planet.

In the centuries that followed people (Tellurian and Mithbari alike) learned to live with one another, and the geopolitical maps were completely redrawn as old alliances were rekindled, new ones were forged and others crumbled.

Tensions existed, of course, culminating in WW3 circa 2150CE, a conflict with long-term repercussions that kickstarted a new Cold War between those involved. By 2500 CE, passions had died out, but a new threat was on the horizon.

Of course, that's a story for another day...

Characters

NoobX went for one of his D&D characters. It works just fine. So would characters from WoD, Shadowrun, or (nearly) whatever other system you can think of.

For now, it's best to think in terms of broad strokes. What sort of character you'd like to play. A fighter? a diplomat? an explorer? the cooky old chef behind the counter? etc...

Once you have that, hit me in PM and we can discuss options.

Some setting info

This is a list of possible locations for RP, let me know which one(s) you guys prefer:

"Red" Faction

* Kingdom of Dhakhan: As hands-off as a theocratic monarchy could possibly get, Dhakhan is a land of contradictions and extremes. What used to be Australasia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia (minus Hawaii and surrounding islands) fell under the control of the Daemon Queen in one swoop. A massive volcano rose at the heart of Australia, surrounded by lush, fertile, land. Some argue that life there now is safer than it was before the Sundering.

* Fidessa: The undisputed masters of trade and transportation claim most of Southeast Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia (without Papua, with Andaman and Nicobar), Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) as their home. The royal court is an environment almost as dangerous as the land outside the cities. Everything and anything can be bought or sold in the various markets.

* Idurat Theocracy: Claiming most of the northern shore of Africa, Idurat spans across what used to be Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco (with Ceuta), and Tunissia. At first glance, the ever expanding empire seems like Ancient Egypt on steroids, ruled by the firm hand of the divine Pharaoh. In reality, it is a troubled land that only recently came out from a revolution led by the youngest daughter of its former divine sovereign.

* Sambalan Ascendancy: A vast land covering the former countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India (without Andaman and Nicobar), Kashmir, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka. The various castes are ruled by the academic elite, and the exotic nation is renowned for its numerous institutions. Ancient secrets lay just out of sight, waiting for those brave enough to find them.

* Xibalban Empire: Deep inside the Amazon jungle, Xibalban territories cover the former Brazilian states of Acre, Amapa, Amazonas, Para, Roraima, and Rondonia, along with what used to be French Guayana, Guyana, and Suriname. A technocratic magocracy, ruled by a council of Attuned, the empire is a network of hidden cities, surrounded by lush vegetation. Extremely secretive, they defend their land with savagery and magitech matched by few.

"Green" Faction

* Atlantis: Technically there should be a "new" in front of the name, but who's counting, right? During the sundering, Hawaii and the surrounding islands became connected, as volcanic eruptions created new land. It soon became a haven for all sorts of people, from refugees to pirates, and the ancient city was built again. It now serves as neutral ground between all nations, while the Captain Council ensures that hostilities will never get too out of hand.

"Blue" Faction

* Arcadia: As if Eastern Europe (everything from Poland and Belarus down to Greece) wasn't volatile enough, the Sundering brought back old peoples and old grudges. Now, the various kingdoms try their best to survive against enemies within and without. Most of them amount to networks of city-states surrounded by untamed land, in a landscape of ever-shifting alliances and skirmishes.

* Avalon: Imagine the surprise of the people of western Russia (until the line crossing Rostov-on-Don, Volgograd, Saratov, Samara, and Kazan) when they saw steampunk knights laying claim to their homeland, joined by old Russian nobility. Led by the rightful owner of the legendary Excalibur, Avalon is a land so rife with political intrigue and shifting interests that only the most adept diplomats can navigate successfully.

* Saguenay Confederation: Mad Max meets Dances with Wolves in the land (re)claimed by the tribes. Arizona (north of I-40), Colorado, Kansas, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, east half of Nevada, New Mexico (north of I-40), North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah,  and Wyoming, were all affected by the eruption of Yellowstone, then changed even more as the newcomers settled in.

* Sheban Hierarchy: The southern tip of Africa (Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, and South Africa) was not left untouched by the Sundering, and less so by the centuries following. A militaristic meritocracy and the undisputed masters of the air, Sheba is home to the most powerful armada on Earth. Their technology is far ahead of everyone else, with notable exceptions.

* Utgard: Greenland took a turn for the worse during the Sundering, becoming a harsh land where only the strong survive. That suits its current inhabitants just fine, as they try to surpass themselves on their quest for immortality - not cheating death, but being remembered forevermore and earning a place in Valhalla.

On a sidenote: Oddball, have you voted on the poll?

One of these three sounds good.

But Arcadia is my pick because I'm biased
