Cast away

Wanted to think of a more recent film that could make the list. Was on the fence with Interstellar. It’s been a little while but I remember the ending was kinda meh, otherwise really good.

Interstellar is Matthew McConaughey's best movie imo, although Free State of Jones was also very good.

Newer movies aren't necessarily better or worse but it's helpful to have more time pass because some movies age better than others.

"Air Bud" is now a supreme masterpiece after years of aging and now fit for refined audiences.

I kept thinking about that one cause I just finished up watching him in true detective season 1. Definitely recommend that.

Quintessential light-hearted Serbian teen comedy...

I've totally heard of this movie before and have seen it like 100 times, give or take. Just don't ask me anything about it.

The main one that threw me off was the Ice Age series. Like wtf. That's like having "Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3: Viva La Fiesta!" on the list, but whatever. Maybe he's just really, really psyched up about woolly mammoths and squirrels or something.

"..has fallen" series as must see action movies? C'mon. I mean, ok, they're fine as popcorn munchers go but I don't think I'd put them on my top 50 action movies, let alone top 5.
Isn't that the interesting thing about books and movies? Tastes are so different...
I could probably write down 50 cool action movies...like "Die hard" series..."Terminator series"...but in the end...they are all pretty similar...so I don't think it makes much difference which one to chose.

Animation movies list is more referred to the fact how I remember that day I watched them the first day (mostly in cinema with my daughter) and how SHE liked it and enjoyed the day....and I remember the first 2 Ice Age movies and she laughed so hard those days....that's why.

There are other great movies which I didn't mention because I thought they are probably not known very well to the younger generation....like "Midnight Express"...."The Clou"..."Color of money"...."I....comme Icare"....just to name a few of them...

Classics...

There are plenty of movies that would make the cut for such a list. Most of them are the usual suspects, like LotR, Godfather, Scent of a Woman or, well, Usual Suspects.

You will also get cult classics like Idiocracy, Demolition Man, Willow, and a host of others.

There is, however, a rarely talked about movie that is a definite must in my opinion.

Tango & Cash.

Lol, so what if they are unknown to younger people, it’s not like you’re a professional critic, writing in a youth magazine and have to catch up or something. You were just asked to list your top notch movies.

Needless to say, Midnight Express is notorious in here, it was even banned until the 1990’s. And if you really want to go old school, there’s The Hustler, the 1961 classic features Paul Newman as the same character from The Color of Money. In fact, in the second movie, Tom Cruise is kind of like Newman’s youth in The Hustler, they obviously went for that angle.

I have seen Olympos Has Fallen, it was fun to watch but I had no idea they turned it into a series.

I see no one yet mentioned the 1986 Highlander film. NoobX is right, you guys are a bunch of plebs.

But at least Goodfellas is mentioned. how many you think it's great besides the muh one take scene of henry going to copacabana club and other cinematography techniques used in the film?

Other gangster films that haven't been mentioned:

HBO's Gotti
Donnie Brasco

____________
"Kip is the Gavin McInnes of HC" - Salamandre
"Ashan to the Trashcan", "I got PTSD from H7. " - LizardWarrior

It's a cult classic, it shouldn't need to be mentioned. (Highlander 2, on the other hand, really shouldn't be mentioned...)

Can't believe I forgot this one...

There's a movie that is as anachronistic as it gets (though, not about all the things you'd think) but it's also crazy fun.

A Knight's Tale

And since we're including cult classics...

Space Quest

HBO's Gotti

I don’t know which one is the HBO one but John Travolta’s Gotti sucked big time, the real good Gotti movie was the rather less known TV movie from the 1990’s, the one in which Gotti was played by Armand Assante, who also played the Boss in Danny DeVito and Jack Nicholson’s Hoffa (which was better than Scorsese’s Hoffa). For the other side of the Gotti story, the story of the Capo dei Capo he whacked, Paul Castellano, there’s also another watchable TV movie called Boss of Bosses. Chazz Palminteri plays Castellano. Chazz Palminteri is also hilarous as the gangster in Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway, in which he plays a behind-the scenes play-writer/day-time mafia muscle who is a literature genius born under wrong circumstances. Now, that was a true comedy.

And of course, speaking  of Nicholson/DeVito, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest is also one of the all time greats. Nicholson has so many quality movies from the 1970’s.
