Tarkas glanced around quickly. Most of those in dire need of protection were out. There was still one man cowering behind an overturned table, but the creature seemed to ignore him. And besides, at this point it would be better to surround it and force it on the defensive.

Shield and spear in front of him, the shimmering wampyr approached the intruder, keeping it between himself and the archon. His main objective was to make sure it could neither nor escape nor attack through their circle. As Tarkas looked for a spot to strike, he once again felt odd. There were still the tendrils suspiciously going into the ground. He aimed his spear and stabbed each of the, trying to sever the creature's connection with the earth.

Cyrus took in the vast and unique terrain. His eyebrow twitched in irritation. "What the actual hell!" He hisses under his breath.

Taking in the monuments and mist, Cyrus spots Ivana standing a few paces away. He walks up to her. "You are coming back with me. Our hosts want a word with you." He snaps at her.

When the unknown woman started speaking Cyrus, glares at her. "Don't care. We're leaving now."

He puts his hand on Ivana and shoves her. "Get moving."

Archon's manor, Thessaloniki, Solun Region

Assaulted by all sides, the creature would suddenly implode, just as Simon's blade pierced its body. The resulting shockwave would pull all the attackers toward it, while the flames disappeared as if sucked into a vacuum. The lingering charge in the air left an odd taste in everyone's mouth, while the grass had died where the creature touched it.

The archon would be quick to get back on his feet, glancing around at those present. "Anyone hurt?" His attention quickly drifted toward the two-headed dog, and he whistled sharply to summon the beast over. The hound would limp over, then collapsed in front of its master. He sniffed the air lightly, then used his blade to slice one of its legs clean off, getting little more than a whimper from the animal.

The princess would climb down from the table, her demeanour quickly changing to what it previously was, while the dark-skinned man peeked out from behind his makeshift cover, displaying less courage than the twins. The witch quickly moved to the archon's side, reaching to touch the orthos with one hand. She kept her eyes on the rest, however, speaking with as much authority as her voice could muster.

"If it touched your flesh, cut it off."

Her eyes would stop on Scav and Vosh for a few moments, then Tarkas before looking back to the archon. Even as she spoke, the dog's severed limp was rapidly regrowing, muscles and tendons knitting back. She spoke in another language, one that those present might identify as Avalonian, or as an odd mix of old English, French, and a few others.

---Somewhere else---

The strange woman would stop a couple of steps away from Ivana and would offer a slight smile.

She blinked as Cyrus interrupted her, then smiled brighter at him.

"So rude... and no, Hell is that way." She pointed somewhere in the distance. "You are right though... you need to hurry back before my great-niece does something inadvisable to patch the damage you caused.

She then looked between them, perking a brow.

"Does either of you know how to get back?"

As the fight concluded and the situation began calming down, Vosh would find a relatively secluded place to sit and examine his body and gear for any form of damage he didn't notice during all of the chaos.  That, however, was not the only reason he took to the side, as he cast Detect Magic once again, this time being able to clearly see every person in front of him.  The scholar would scan each and every individual, taking care that his glances did not linger long enough to be noticed.

Dragged slightly closer to where the thing had been by the sudden vacuum, Simon crouched, planted his blade into the dirt, and held himself steady until the entire fiasco was done.

With a deep breath that settled all of the mist back into his skin, leaving the wampyri pale and somewhat unremarkable once more, he stood up with his knife still in the ground and, at the words of the witch, he casually pulled off his shirt and the armor beneath, looking for any holes that might have been made when he wasn’t looking. It was an easy way to check his own back. And he did this publicly to ensure that if he missed a spot, someone else could confirm he was clean.

To Vosh’s sight, Simon has only one magic item: the combat knife that he’d been using this entire time. The enchantments were’s overpowering, they were simple durability, rust immunity and sharpness spells inlaid permanently into the blade as runes along the knife’s hilt, underneath its leather wrap.

Tarkas managed to attack from an angle that would let him pierce two tendrils with one strike, but just as his spear lunged forward the creature disappeared in a small vortex. Tarkas stuck the spear into the ground to stabilize himself against the pull and put the shield in front of his eyes just in case.

When it was over he looked around in confusion. Everyone seemed to be fine and the attacker was no more. Confusion changed into relief closely followed by joy and pride. He raised his weapon into the air and even started to glow a little brighter in the excitement, as if the sun beams were reflecting off of him in certain places on his body.

"Hoorah! The hellish creature slain, the innocents protected! This is how it should be! The first chapter in the epic tale they will undoubtedly sing about me in years to come! Rejoice everyone for this was a mighty triumph over... ummmm.... what exactly was it that we triumphed over?"

Scav heard a meaty pop and saw the creature that had been attacking them seemingly collapse in on itself. He was far enough away that he did not feel the vortex effect. The creature had never attacked him directly, so he only cursorily glanced at his clothes before his gaze settled on his now purposeless baton. He shrugged, smirked to himself, and put it away, moving over to join the others.

The archon was in the process of checking the twins for signs of injury when Tarkas spoke. He watched the man for a good second before he burst out laughing, moving to stand from his crouch and dusting himself. He grinned widely at the former guard, then glanced at the rest.

"A regular beacon of hope, aren't you?" He glanced to the witch, smirking faintly. "I think I'm gonna keep that one, he's fun." She rolled her purple eyes subtly, then turned her gaze to the twins.

He chuckled quietly as he idly scratched the back of the two-headed dog, looking at those present. His expression would get more serious as he spoke again.

"That, gentlemen, was what we call a void beast. It's big, nasty, and it will not stop until it's dead, or everything around it is."

It was time now for the witch to speak, glancing briefly at Vosh before looking at the archon. She pursed her lips for a moment.

"We were incredibly lucky this time. Normally they do not perish this easily. Something threw it off-balance or we would all be dead already."

She turned her gaze to Simon and Scav pointedly but said no more.

The good thing was, what the man told her sank in her mind and finally, she began completing the puzzles that she had. All the things that happened became clear to her. And it was late when she realized that the guy she cannot understand before could now communicate properly with her.

She did not resisted him when he pushed him but she looked back at the woman when she spoke, nodding slightly as an answer to her question.

The adrenaline ran out of Scav's body as if embarrassed to be there, and as his heart slowed to catch up the bizarre nature of his situation landed heavy upon him. A void beast intent on dragging them all to oblivion, a strange cat-lady from Egypt, banshees and werewolves and God knew what else. This had to be a fever dream.

The cat lady. Anpu. Something clicked and he realized where he'd heard that name before. He turned the archon.

"Was that some sort of acolyte of Anubis or something?"

Simon finished his inspections, pulled his shirt over his head, and then said to Tarkas, “Nah, didn’t you hear the witch? We clearly got lucky and couldn’t handle the void beast normally. So instead, we should run screaming for the hills next time we encounter one, instead of following the Archon’s orders and protecting the civilians.”

“Or, just maybe, our armaments and skills were enough to kill the beast, which shocked it, sure, but left it reeling from all sides, staggered and unable to respond, until it perished. So if we ever see one again, we’ll just respond with an equal or greater outpouring of overwhelming violence. You know. So we get lucky twice.” Yes, he’s giving the witch a flat stare as he says this, because she had just implied an insult to the skill of the group, whether she’d meant it intentionally or not, and he wasn’t some child to be frightened of bedtime monsters because someone told him to be. Yes, that thing was scary. No, he didn’t need the witch exaggerating to make him respect that danger more.

”Hey! Be nice.”

I stole you a monster’s life today. Be satisfied with that and shut up.

The raven’s presence seemed to fade as that irritated thought battered it.

Cyrus turned back to look at the strange woman. "Yes. I am perfectly capable of taking us back to where we came from," he sneered.

He kept his grip on Ivana's shoulder and lead her away from the woman. He stopped them several feet from the woman. Closing his eyes he began to concentrate.

Slowly his senses faded away, his body becoming a vague sensation in the back of his mind. Ivana's thoughts became nothing more than static in the background, her confusion and acceptance melting away to nothing but a dull buzz.

The world grew fuzzy at it's edges. Slowly his consciousness began to leave his mortal coil behind, unfurling into the ether. He dared not let himself fully let go, even if he wished to. Not here at least, in this silent and dead world filled with metal monuments. Monuments to what, Cyrus had no idea. Instead, he kept one foot in his body and the other in the ether.

It was an odd sensation. To have himself be half body-less, half of his being dangling in the ether like a grass in the wind. Dizzying and freeing at the same time. Terrifying and exhilarating. Like falling from a substantial height and crashing into a vast, empty ocean. His conscious mind constrained to his body still, but at the same time waving freely in the space between minds.

Focus. He thought. He vaguely felt his body inhaling deeply. Slowly he let his mind expand, searching. Looking for that tiny indication of whatever it was that sent them here. There! Glinting in the distance, a tiny gossamer thread. Cyrus followed the thread to find it attached to the woman beside him.

Curious. It would seem that what happened was not a purely coincidental event. There are no coincidences indeed.

Cyrus followed the thread in the other direction, finding that the tiny, shimmering, strand disappeared into the very air. But, it was definitely attached. He gently tugged on the thread. It was like unraveling a spool of twine.

Before him the portal slowly unfurled, like a flower opening in the sun. The petals uncurling and stretching out to embrace the warmth of daylight. There was a crackling sound, followed by a loud pop. The portal winked into existence.

Cyrus pulled his consciousness back into his body. The world and all it's deafening sensations crashed into him. He grimaced and shored up his mental walls. Opening his eyes he blinked them to adjust them to light.

Before him the portal hung open, it's edges lapping at reality like waves to a beach.

He pushed Ivana forward. "Move."

Archon's manor, Thessaloniki, Solun Region

As Scav spoke, the princess of Idurat would snap her gaze at him. The Archon winced, glancing at the man as he spoke in English.

"...you had to use that name..."

Behind them, Alexia Hatshepsut, favoured daughter of the divine Pharaoh of Idurat would go off on a tirade in her native language, yet clearly directed at Scav. She did not seem to particularly care if he understood her or not.

Before Selene could respond to Simon's rather acerbic words to Tarkas, one of the archways of the atrium shimmered, before the space within it vanished. In its place, those gathered would see a window into another place, void of any life except for Cyrus and Ivana who were now stepping across the threshold. The land behind them looked barren, adorned only by lanterns scattered throughout the mist covering the ground.

Some of the mist spilled through the portal, spreading over the ground quickly. As it touched those present, they would feel cold, yet it had nothing to do with the temperature. The two-headed hound went silent, as did his master, his little boy, and the dark-skinned man. All were looking at the portal rather stunned.

Three among them, however, had a very different reaction. Selene and her daughter would stare at the portal, their eyes bursting into purple flames as they did, radiating power. The Idurati princess, on the other hand, would look down at herself with eyes glowing purple, a hawk's head appearing briefly over her own.

Just before the portal collapsed in on itself, those present would see the strange but oddly familiar young woman in the oddly out-of-time clothes wave cordially. Somehow, everyone knew it would not be the last time they saw the place beyond the portal, the woman... or at least someone like her.

The incident somehow affected Ivana's behavior. Silence engulfed her, never letting out a single word during and after the "jump". The thief had surprisingly stopped resisting too and instead allowed the man to take her.

At the manor, Ivana just stood. Her eyes wander around but were low and slow. He is different, she told herself and then shivered at the thought that followed. He might be one of them. Will he know? He must not know, she warned herself.

Scav listened to the verbal barrage, never once interjecting, complaining, or disputing the things she said, even though he could tell by the tone of her voice that the unfamiliar words she used were unflattering at best and full of venom. Not having to focus on the content of the words, he began to look for a way out of the hole he’d just dug. It was not his habit to make enemies needlessly, and doubly so in this world where he couldn’t even conceive what sorts of enemies he might make. Scav always approached verbal confrontations with an appraising eye, and this tirade was a big heap of radioactive slag he’d do best to shield against and get rid of quickly, lest he be burned or worse. Failing that, he’d just try to stay far away from this newcomer and avoid the fallout altogether.

He let the words run their course and looked up into the fierce glare in her eyes, not allowing himself to flinch or look away even as the room seemed to grow colder, almost tangibly so. He had to appear forthright and humble should his expression and body language be his only way to communicate with her, lest he lose his chance to salve the situation. “Anpu, then. I apologize,” he paused, wondering. “I’m, uh, guessing you don’t speak English?” Her expression did not change and she gave no answer, so he pointed to himself and said his name before extending a hand, hoping the gesture represented a universal gesture of peace that would be reciprocated no matter what barriers stood between them. But she only glanced over his shoulder, then looked down, a purple hawk head flashing over her own features.

Scav turned to see what she had glanced at and saw a portal standing open, spilling mist into the room and seeping heat from it. The cold he’d felt earlier hadn’t been the imagined effect of an icy gaze after all. In front of the portal stood two people who’d clearly just walked through. One of the men he’d seen earlier in the courtyard was roughly towing a woman he did not know. He looked as if pissed at the world while she stood surveying the room, almost supernaturally placid despite the circumstances. He was too stunned by the scene to appreciate the new arrival, let alone to snap back to the conversation he’d just been having. Both loose threads hung in the air like floating feathers, each racing to be the first to land.

Vosh kept quiet for the duration of the unfolding events, only soaking up information and reading people's gestures.  He attempted to take in every little piece of chatter, something he'd used before in his field of work with his students, and something he'd gotten quite skilled at during the course of his career while not on the field.  He was reading everyone's expressions, taking mental notes and processing information before being taken aback by the opening of the portal for a moment.  As the man who ran off chasing Ivana arrived with the rogue, Vosh would try and take a mental snapshot of the scene.
He took a moment to size up the woman on the other side of the portal, followed up by the princess, and the witch along with the little girl in the end.  His right eyebrow raised a bit and his eyes flashed brightly for a split second more than they did previously.
Vosh shifted his attention towards his former employee, now surprisingly subdued, and the man from before.  He took a moment and looked at him with intent, squinting, as if focusing on him alone intensely.  He then made a slight nod, as if responding affirmatively, without speaking to anyone, shifting his attention towards the rogue once more with his rod at the ready if needed.

He registered the return of the nervous-looking man and the temperamental girl beside him in a clinical style, cool and detached and sorted away immediately, as his gaze instead went to the woman that sat behind them both. That one... she dominated his attention in a way that he’d rarely felt, and he found himself nodding to her, as if greeting an old friend.

Then he looks at the telepath and thief that just walked out of death’s doorway, and he asks, “What trouble did you two get into?”

Ivana walked towards the unscathed table, looking at the nice piece of bottle. She took it and held it close to her nose then sniffed it.  She'd recognize it to be a different one from the drink she took yesterday from the tavern and thought it was safe to drink but the thought the thought that it won't matter whatever kind of wine it would be stunned her for a second.

I am under their control now. Whatever I'll do to escape is futile. But it's just for now... she told herself. She grabbed a chair and pulled it near to the table. As she sat, Ivana looked at everyone in the scene. One of them could be one of them, or at worst, more than one.

"Ugghhh!" Ivana cried as she put her hand on her head in dismay, "this is clearly the wizard's fault. If it's not for him, I won't be in this kind of situation."

The thief took a sip from the bottle, put her feet on the table crossed then continued to chug the wine following each chug with a sigh.
