Simon, true to his words and his stated plans the evening before, had spent his day and much of his night out and about town. He hadn't used any of his powers while out there aside from his silent movements, doing his best to keep those abilities as secretive as possible since they were on a 'need to know' basis.

After a day of immersing himself in the culture of the city and finally shaking off a bit of the isolated country mud that came from long months on the road, he'd been tempted to find a room in town and actually stay in it for a night, but with the archon likely wanting some kind of meeting and an expectation that there would be a speech over breakfast, the 'guard' figured it best to return to the manor instead.

He also might as well start adjusting to the place where his freedom would soon be restricted, if only so it wouldn't chafe as much when the door outside was properly closed.

Awakening in a place that he was familiar with on this day, Simon would choose to wear his more basic clothing, the grey jerkin and his basic pants, leaving the fancy shirt and armor behind in his room. Beneath his shirt he had a bandolier, into which he tucked two throwing knives across his back, and his enchanted weapon remained on his hip as it had been since the day he'd left Dacia. Tossing his cloak over one arm, folded to be compact and easy to carry, Simon stepped out of his room yawning and began to walk towards the dining area.

Before he'd finished closing his room door, a rough, almost drunken raven caw echoed through his mind and he felt the presence of his mentor press in against his psyche once more. "Idiot. Apprentice. Moron. Small child." Oh well that was exactly what he needed for that hangover he was trying to nurse. "Rundown. Checklist. Usual suspects. Don't forget the shiny."

Stepping back into his room, Simon picked up the burnished silver raven beak talisman that he normally kept in his coin purse, and he put that on while working through the haze around his mind. Right. Rundown first.

He'd been contracted by the archon to assist in combating an extradimensional threat that was poised to strike at their world and tear bloody wounds into it. As part of that contract, he was subcontracted to protecting a priestess that was more confident in her abilities than her courage justified, and to protect the archon's loved ones; a pair of children and the local witch. Simple enough. There'd been a promise of training to ensure he was fit to perform this job without dying or embarrassing his employers, though his natural talents had already ensured that he was a valuable asset regardless.

Next, checklist. As he had inspected each and every morning for the last ten years, all of his equipment was still there and in pristine condition. What exertion had come from his athletic activities and combatting that creature had been dealt with, and his armor was freshly cleaned and oiled, while the jerkin he wore had the soot from the mage's pyrotechnic display dusted off. His coin purse still had enough funds in it to purchase him two month's worth of material should he need to leave at any given moment.

And then the usual suspects. The archon, Alexander, was an interesting man. Clearly had a strong moral center, though he liked to claim to be a monster and bloodthirsty tyrant to play into people's perception of him and the stories of how he rose to power. He cared too much about his people for that to be the full extent of his character, however. Clearly valued life, living that life and actions over his material wealth and things, given how little he seemed to care about his own appearance and how his manor was decorated (though that later one could be him wanting to keep Selene happy, so he might be off there with that assumption.) "Meathead, but honest. Next."

Selene was more of an unknown. He'd been around her for a short while and she seemed quick-tempered but knowledgeable of that flaw, so trying to curtail her desire to turn certain individuals into newts. She either had little respect for privacy or was used to the privilege her station gave her (or both) since she hadn't thought anything of poking around in her guest's minds despite Alexander's clear stance against it. Her choice in decoration showed a high standard of living in her life before she came to this manor, and given she disguised herself with magic it was safe to call her vain. However, she did seem to care about her loved ones, or at least cared that people thought she cared, and she was willing to assist and explain things as necessary to make sure everyone was on the same page. "Spooky goth girl. Next."

There was Tarkas. "I'm still recovering from the feedback of the last time you thought about him. Skip. Next."

Vosh was an outsider, but one that knew what he wanted and wasn't entirely off put at being where he was. Likely, if he was left alone with a constant supply of fresh material to study and experiment with, and meals at regular times, the group would never see him outside of his chambers. As it stood, the man was competent and seemed to respect competence in others, but had history with the flighty girl. The house wasn't burning down and no one was being treated for multiple stab wounds, so that meant they likely hadn't run into each other lately. "Anti-social bookworm. Next."

Scav was... well, he wasn't someone that Simon had interacted with too much, but he seemed to be a dependable man. Solid and genuinely looking to help, even if he was an outsider and seemed to be struggling to feel comfortable in this world that was a nexus point for the lost and outcasts. His knowledge of lost technologies and all that came with them would prove invaluable, and it would probably pay to get to know the man better. "Lone wolf struggling to fit into a new pack. Next."

Ivana had no idea what she was doing and was a liability, but Selene had made the girl into her problem, which meant she wasn't his problem. The girl also clearly had a drinking problem, and was somehow connected to Vosh, though that previous relationship ended poorly and seemingly meant nothing at the moment. That said, she didn't seem to be particularly dangerous to those around her outside of the consequences of being inexperienced, and she mostly just wanted to be free to do the things she desired. If she didn't self-destruct because of a flash of unexpected magic, and if her liver somehow miraculously continued to survive, she might just make a valuable addition to the team. "Fish out of water that somehow flopped into a tank filled with booze. Next."

Cyrus was unstable and a liability. Of all of his companions, that one represented the greatest risk and he clearly knew it. The man had severe trauma, multiple triggers he hadn't told anyone about, and power that he was trained to use, and use well. Of all of them, Cyrus needed to be watched the closest, and when he was in the room Simon was ready to keep his defenses close at hand, though not too obviously, since that might just make the man decide he wanted to force a confrontation. Simon... truly hoped that Alexander and Selene knew what they were doing with that one. "Straight jacket and padded walls. Next."

Alexa Hatshepsut was a hothead, a coward, and clearly had a crush on Tarkas, though she might just castrate the man out of raw sexual frustration if the flirting kept up. She showed an incredible number of signs of privilege, more so than Selene, and her life had likely been very soft and easy, what with her manservants and other helping hands hovering around her as they had yesterday. When the voidspawn showed up, she'd hidden instead of helping... and so had her guard. She seemed more like a foreign dignitary than a person Simon would recruit to save the world, but hey, maybe this event would help her grow character. "Delicate princess with a mean streak. Servants."

For a minute, Simon called up a picture of each of the household servants in his mind, along with a mental map of the manor, and he prepared to begin charting where each of those hands went throughout the day in the course of their duties. There. Satisfied? The bird gave an amused caw, sounding a bit less inebriated, and Simon let out a breath. Good. I'm getting some damned coffee now.

And with that out of the way, he finally went downstairs to get something to eat and to mingle before going out to town.

When the whole slavers incident ended, Tarkas asked the archon if the manor was reachable on foot, excused himself and went for a walk in the indicated direction. It was doubtful that any of the others had seen him for the remainder of the day.

Late in the following morning, Tarkas came out of the manor and into the courtyard. He was wearing nothing but sandals and breeches and carried all of his equipment in his arms. Once in the courtyard, he found a nice warm spot in the sun, lay his armor and weapons in front of him and began to polish them, whistling softly to himself. His exposed skin shone slightly and the light he gave of even oscillated a bit with the rhythm of his tune.

Cyrus spent much of his free days exploring the city, Corina tagging along. It had been surprisingly pleasant. Wandering through the city with Corina as his guide, it was a reminder. A reminder that not all the universe- well multiverse actually, was filled with darkness. That cruelty and pain weren't the norm.

The hustle and bustle of the citizens around him filled him with a strange sense of peace. Just ordinary people going about their daily lives. The monotony did wonders for his frayed psyche. It reminded him of home. His daily life with his family. Just an average person, living an average life.

His wistful reminiscence must've shown on his face, because Corina wasted no time in remarking on it. He promptly told her to get a spiky plant and where exactly she should shove it. She brushed it off with her usual grace and perhaps he cracked some small semblance of a smile. It had been a long time since he had been able to tease and be teased. It was nice to feel normal again. Even if just for a moment.

The gaping wound that had rent his heart into pieces seemed to mend a tiny fraction. Small, but a mend was a mend. And he felt a little less lonely.

He made a mental note to buy something nice for Corina. Did she like flowers?

He arrived back at the manor just before noon. In his final few hours of leisure time he had separated from Corina under the ruse of wanting to nap in the park. Really he had just wandered the town visiting all the flower shops, browsing and trying to find something that suited her. He hadn't been able to make a decision and ended up returning empty handed.

Archon's manor, Thessaloniki, Solun Region

Ivana would have little trouble locating the wine cellar, getting in however would prove rather tricky... or at least it would have been if she was not a thief. She could tell there were people gathering in the courtyard once more, her former employer and her newfound mentor among them.

Vosh would arrive at the courtyard just as the lady of the house stepped out from her wing of the manor. Today she had opted for a simpler outfit, forgoing her human guise and wrapping herself in a black dress. Upon seeing him, she offered a knowing smile and a slight tip of her head. The blade dancer was a few steps behind, following her mistress in her usual swaying gait. She glanced over at one of the new arrivals and offered a slight smirk.

Cyrus would be the recipient of it, arriving at the courtyard at the same time. She seemed to purposefully position herself between the displaced man and the pulsating light in the corner, only to step out of the way at just the right moment for both him and Simon to have a full view of the former guard. Her demeanour remained perfectly neutral, save for that faintest of facial expression.

Tarkas would be left alone, polishing his weapon as he had been... at least until a certain princess showed up. For a brief moment, the air around the courtyard felt charged. The two women glanced at each other with narrowed eyes, before the Pharaoh's daughter resumed her path. As she walked past the former guard, the back of her fingers would lightly brush against his shoulder, seemingly by accident.

Scav would make it there last, but likely not least, and would easily note the main absence from the small group. The lord of the house was nowhere to be seen, yet he was certain that he had returned to the manor the day before. He would not have long to ponder his whereabouts as a strange, yet oddly familiar, sound was heard in the distance, growing louder.

Beyond the gates of the manor, those present in the courtyard would see a small cloud approaching from the horizon. It would be moments before they could see better and the sight was ...definitely unusual. The lord of the manor was returning home, as one might expect, but he did so with his feet kicked up as he rode in the sidecar of an odd-looking contraption (or motorcycle, as the more technologically-minded, would easily identify). Behind the wheel rode a much shorter individual, with long dark hair and a darker complexion. His eyes were covered by goggles, while most of his body was wrapped in padded leather. Several wrenches, screwdrivers, and other tools were carefully tucked in the various pouches on him.

As they got closer, it would become obvious to all that the one driving had pointy ears, marking him easily as one of the native hauflin species, a goblin. Slowing down as they approached, the strange arrival would stop once past the gate, and the lord of the manor was heard laughing at something the diminutive driver said.

"Ha! ...what a moron! Just one question though ...what the hell is a samophlange and why was he stepping on it?"

As Corina carried out her heinous betrayal, Cyrus would recoil as Tarkas came into his view. Even while doing something as mundane as polishing his armour, the man radiated positivity and loudness. It washed against his shields like someone wading into a fast moving river, the waters threatening to knock you off balance.

It wasn't even really the positivity that was the issue. That was a lie, it was. But there was a greater issue; the sheer volume of it. Tarkas didn't seem to be aware of how every little thought he had was projected. It was the equivalent of having someone yelling while they were right next to you, while they used a loudspeaker. Each thought he had was laced with some optimistic outlook which was then hurled outwards like asteroids scattered by cosmic wind.

Even having all his shields up—which simply reduced everything to a dull static—did little to dampen the sheer loudness of Tarkas' mind. The man was literally like a psychic beacon. Something that could become a liability if they were to come against another psionic enemy. Perhaps that was something he should discuss with Selene.

Cyrus rubbed his temples. "Jesus, why is he so damn loud. My god." He grumbled. Moving to stand next to Corina, Cyrus side eyed her.

"You think you're funny, don't you? Judas." There was a trace amount of humour in his tone. He wasn't sure if the metaphor would make sense to her, but that didn't really matter.

When the Archon was pulling up in the sidecar of a motorcycle Cyrus tilted his head to the side. It was such an odd thing to feel. Comfort at the sight of a motorcycle. But, in his defense, it was a small shard of representation of the life and time he had left behind. He had a feeling Scav felt the same way. A small life raft in this new mystical and fantastical world he found himself in.

Cyrus left Corina's side and approached the Archon and the motorcycle. He whistled. "Wow. I never thought I would see one of these again. Nice ride."

Simon would roll his eyes slightly at the sight of Tarkas being the center of all cheer in the multiverse once more, this time in his topless swimsuit edition (featuring hit soldier armor maintenance) but Cyrus's reaction would get the wampyri to look at the psychic questioningly. "What? He didn't even... oh calm down, he's not that bad..." Mumbled more to himself, Simon added, "if you don't look directly at him."

The raven responded, "Awrack, you only have to look at his body! Don't judge those of us trapped in his sanity blasting aura! Fool!" He responded by thinking, Oh don't you get all grim and emo on me too. He's just happy. Dumb but happy. Let him be. The raven grumbled but settles back into the edges of Simon's psyche to loom and judge like the lingering death omen they were.

Simon's attention quickly rotated to the device that the goblin and the archon had ridden in on, and he makes his way over to examine it, asking the driver, "Hi, I'm Simon, so now that we aren't strangers; What is this, how does it work, how do I get one, we all get one, right Archon?" This was NEW, this was SHINY, and Simon and the bird both agreed that they should play around with one if at all possible and see how it felt.

Tarkas raised his head and smiled as Alexia approached. His gaze followed her for a few moments after she passed him, his glow becoming constant. He looked around after that and as if noticing all the arrivals for the first time, he would seek each and everyone one of them with his eyes to give them a smile and a cheerful wave.

The former watchman's demeanor would change somewhat as the cloud of dust became visible in the distance. With quick efficiency he put on his shirt followed by his armor and grabbed his spear. As the contraption came into view, however, Tarkas relaxed and approached the machine interest.

Leo's eyes would have looked wider if not for his goggles covering them.

"It is a high powered drill designed to attach the snabgasket to the bleemseal's intake valves and.. Okay I'm just messing with you. Nobody really knows anymore, its secrets have been lost to time. I looked into it out of sheer curiosity but there were too many missing links. Filling the gaps and recreating or repurposing old technology is my passion and if half the rumours are true, this is a good place to be! Incidentally, nice place you have here."

Taking a casual look at the confused stares around, Leo smiled.

"Do people here tell stories about goblins eating children that don't eat their food or go to bed late? That would be a laugh!"

Ivana frowned. No signs of her beloved wine can be seen in the courtyard. She thought, like yesterday, she'll be welcomed with a grand feast. Today, it was missing.

"Aahh, they made me work so hard yesterday and now this is what I get," the thief complained.

As she looked around, she noticed that the others were looking onto something. Naturally, she turned to where they were focused and saw the host at the gate accompanied by some wiered looking creature. Ivana narrowed her eyes to get a clearer view. A goblin! What a nasty-looking creature! She gasped.

And oh... wow..., Ivana said, a slight smile appeared on her lips. Her eyes glistned, as if something caught her interest, "Nice ride."

Vosh observed the newcomer with suspicion, as was the case with any goblinoid creature he'd encountered.  The thought that this world's goblins could be of a different sort, much unlike the aggressive, marauding kind he was used to back home, crossed his mind, but a mere thought would not be enough to warrant a peace of mind.  For the moment, the scholar stepped back, keeping the newcomer in eyesight, gauging his intentions.

"Impressive. Very impressive." Cyrus walked in a slow circle around the motorcycle.

"Did you make it yourself, Leo? What's it's max speed? Not sure I agree with the colour though...."

To many his enthusiasm would look misplaced, but Cyrus had always been a technology enthusiast. Coming from a world where technology surrounded you on a daily basis, advanced to such a point where it looked like magic. Or give the illusion of it anyway. Now he was in a world were technology, modern technology by his standards, was gratuitously absent. Leo's motorcycle was a small comfort to him. A reminder of what he had left behind. A little piece of home. A small point of light in a very big ocean of unfamiliarity.

Corina simply shot Cyrus an oh-so-charming smile, before turning to look at the incoming vehicle. She perked a brow but made no comment about the strange machine, or the rather undignified mode of transport her master had opted for.

Alex started laughing at Simon's response to the bike, then grinned as Leo appeared capable of handling Tarkas on his own. He instead turned toward Scav and gestured toward the goblin.

"Leo here is one of the people I wanted you to talk to. He comes from a place to the south... where things like this are almost commonplace. It's also where I got the toys I showed off in the arena the other day."

Selene stood to the side, watching the scene unfold. She glanced at Vosh and Ivana noting their reaction to the goblin's arrival but not commenting just yet.

Meanwhile, Alexia moved next to the hostess, speaking quietly and indicating towards the goblin with her head. She kept her arms crossed in front of her, but she seemed not quite as haughty as the day before.

Realizing that no one had answered Simon's questions, he figured he might as well. "It depends on what type of engine it runs on Simon. If it's a combustion engine then it basically uses small explosions to produce energy that pull the vehicle forward. Other types of engines use more exotic means. Where I come from almost everything is powered by antimatter- ah. No need to infodump. I don't think anyone here would know about that anyway."
