Also, I saw this coming a mile ago. Seravy rebuilt Caster of Magic for Windows (previously named CoM II) from scratch. Do you really think a company would not seize this golden opportunity to re-skin the game? (Yes, I am assuming this 'remake' will be entirely built on top of what Seravy has accomplished, especially given how all MoM remakes were huge flops).

I think the game is pretty niche so it might be a flop either way. There aren't that many people who remember the game and the "cinematic trailer" might actually scare off potential buyers then anything lol.

Slitherine publishes solid, old school TBS games. And this is what I pretty much expect here.

It's also not how the original MoM was played. But MUHA games seems to be a good choice. I wrote a news about it at CH a few days ago.

Though it doesn't touch in the isometric vs perspective debate, only in farness of view.

MuHa appear to be doing monthly (or at least trying to do monthly lol) developer diaries for the official Master of Magic remake... looks pretty good although some of the Wizard redesigns are not as good plus everything seems a bit bland and lacking colour compared to the original.

That is not. Effectively it's MoM Remade. And they admitted, they they are not discussing it with Seravy and are not going to adopt features from CoM. They have their own vision, which is, well uknown.

Rest is true, CoM is the best. Add-on or Mod, that's up to you.

And whereas some games announced similarity with MoM like "Elemental: Fallen Enchantress" and "Worlds of Magic" and some don't all (in that aspect) failed

As a user pointed out (cannot find it though), CoM is more of an RTS than a 4x and, while I struggled with this statement at first, the more I played, the more I realized he was, in fact, correct.

I can't agree.

I played hundreds of hours of MOM over the years, and I have played a ridiculous number of hours of Caster for Windows the past few months.  I also went back and played MOM recently, just to check my memory.

In my mind, Caster is a vastly better game.  Light years better.

Obviously, I enjoyed the original a lot.  I do not buy that MOM was a 4X while COM is an RTS.  Rather, I think people overlooked the extent to which MOM was a hybrid between a Civ-like 4X and a turn-based computer RPG.  (Which helps explain why so many MOM wannabes fall flat.)

In MOM, the emphasis is on character creation, plotting out what this build will eventually offer you.  Your most challenging and sigificant obstacles are locations guarded by monsters, with the loot acquired being a close second to character creation in terms of your eventual power.  And while you do have AI opponents sort of like a Civ-type game, they are typically trivial to beat, because just like RPG baddies, they never, ever use insurmountable strategies.  While a decent MOM player and CRPG player always does.  The joy of the game for experienced MOM players is coming up with new combinations of spell books and races which assure victory -- the list of possibilities is substantial.  But AI opponents never use any of these.  So, like a CRPG, the main way to do badly is to nerf yourself during character creation or to be unaware of the overpowered options as you go along.  

COM retains the complex character creation, but no unanswerable options or combinations remain on your menu.  Which has to be the case, because the AI now uses all the high powered options you do.  I don't want to exaggerate -- your AI opponents are not brilliant tacticians, but they behave in ways that make your life very difficult, and above the lowest difficulties tend to make a game tense all the way to the end.  You can come up with very powerful stuff and make great gains, but inevitably, some of your opponents have an effective counter to whatever you are doing.  And if you are looking like the most powerful wizard, the AI wizards will definitely move to cut you down to size.  I mean, yeah, I know what you mean about AI stacks and summons and all, but to my eye, that's just them playing the game like I am.  I'm sending out stacks and summoning, why wouldn't they, if they are actually 4X style opponents.  As I see it, this is what makes the game more like a 4X and less like a CRPG.

I, too, have heard that the new game will have little or nothing to do with COM, but that is why I am ready to be totally disappointed.  It's great that they are improving the art, but after playing MOM recently, I have to say that it would take a whole lot more than improved art or UI for the new game to be anywhere near as fun for me as Caster.
