Nobody claimed the torrent platform is guilty, you made it up. The guys who upload torrents are. And no, unless you have very performant anti virus you will get smoked. I got heavily infected while I was running a legit Norton and scanning everything. Anti-viruses are always one step behind.
Anything that needs an applied crack is potentially dangerous, so thats all pirated software.

Look Sal, this is overwhelmingly simple, so let me try it like explaining it to a 5 year old:
I havent made up anything. He doesnt avoid exe files or software in specific, he avoids the torrent format categorically. (I already know this from our conversation in the past.) But a torrent of a mkv or avi file, especially if seeded for long, is much safer than some crack exe he may get from anywhere else and since we already know that he doesnt use legit software, there’s really no logic to his torrent phobia.
The context wasnt crack exes or similar software, the context was a classical Tarkovski movie and the chances of getting a virus from downloading Stalker’s torrent is something similar to getting hit by lightning while taking a stroll in the park.

His claim is much closer to reality than yours and btw is technically correct while your is just some opinion based on personal experience.
There are so many parameters affecting the possibility of being infected by torrents, your skills (majority of people will just click when asked nicely), your exploitation system (you said you run a Mac), your anti virus (always outdated by new Trojans), the cracker intentions (often malicious otherwise why would he put so much free work in) so that makes multivariable where the next door individual is much more likely to get its HDD infected when downloading torrent than the opposite.

No, it’s based on factual premises that you seem to ignore:
Fact 1: If you’re downloading crack.exes like in your example, the risk has nothing to do with the torrent format. Actually, that is still relatively safer because most torrent sites, unlike download.com sites, has user reviews and ratings that warn you against viruses.
Fact 2: Using torrents per se is not an easy way to get hacked or get a virus. Before streaming services got this common, torrents were the main source where millions of people got their films and music. Most of them (the ones who knew what they were doing) didnt get a virus or hacked because of it. There is no significant risk to using torrents that is more dangerous than any other platform or format, unless you use legit material all the time (which is not the case here). Once again, torrents are much less risky than other sources of piracy.
Fact 3: The context was finding a subtitled copy of Stalker which even you agreed to not being risky.
A quick example, downloading a third party exe like Era 2 would be ten times riskier than dowloading a Tarkovski torrent. If you’re so afraid of a virus, keep your stuff on an external HDD and reboot the system if you happen to catch one, which is improbable anyway when it comes to movie torrents. If you’re watching pirate movies all the time, keep asking where can you find them, torrents are the obvious answer. Back some time ago, fred was searching for a movie, I helped by directing to a torrent, he said he wont use it, as he wishes. Now, he’s looking for another movie and Galaad also points out the obvious, “I’m sure there’s a torrent of it.” This is common sense if you’re searching for illegal copies of movies all the time and denying using torrents categorically is not some “wise thing to do” about it. In this regard, torrents really are as safe as the next thing.
