Picnic ideas

OK, so I couldn't possibly be any more subtle about this, but I'm planning to make a picnic. More specifically, I'm going on a date, and I thought a picnic would be a good idea. It's casual and 'chill' enough so that you could get to know each other better, but also a chance to show off your culinary skills, and not have to worry about stupid etiquettes like splitting/footing the bill at a restaurant, or the other person not liking what's served, because you have a large selection of foods. It needs to be relatively normal though, but also not cliche.

This is where you guys come in. A few days ago you had this huge debate about which foods from what countries were better. I even remember Kip went on a huge rant about how whiskey-infused Monterrey Jack was objectively better than any French cheese. So, took inspiration from some of your suggestions, and decided I was going to try some recipes from different countries to see which one's better. I only have two or three days left to prepare, so any recipe suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Keep in mind that this is my first time properly cooking. I know recipes and I've cooked before, but never these many things in such a short window of time, except this is special to me. So far I've got:
-Sandwich made with Ciabatta bread (I would have used Muffuletta bread but that is nowhere to be found in grocery stores, let alone in London grocery stores), so I'll make do with a Ciabatta, if I can find it anywhere. I have some Gruyere that I really wanna use (I've never used Gruyere before), I'll also use Provolone. Let me know if I'm about to waste some Gruyere, as from what I understand it has a strong flavor and I'm not going to fry it or melt it or whatever.
-Devilled eggs, which involves boiling eggs and separating the whites and the yolk then mixing the yolk with homemade mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika and maybe some hot sauce.
-Tiramisu, made in Italian style, with Mascarpone cheese and heavy cream for the custard, and homemade ladyfingers (I've never made ladyfingers before, so this can go one of two ways). The problem is, Italians make it with Marsala Wine, Dark rum or Amaretto, and at the store I couldn't find Marsala Wine, but Dark Rum and Amaretto I found (they were too expensive though, I was not going to pay 15£ for a bottle of Amaretto I wasn't going to drink, as I'm not a drinker, so I settled without it).
-Hotteok, which are some sort of Korean bread-pancake hybrid things, which are filled with melted brown sugar and nuts.
-I'll also make a tea at home. I'm thinking mint, a few splashes of lemonade and some hibiscus tea as well.

I put more focus on the Tiramisu since it's the more challenging one, and the one that actually requires careful handling, because I might need to use raw eggs, and I don't want anyone, or myself, to get Salmonella. Either way, I need more suggestions for salty food. I'm specifically looking to have this picnic on a hot day, so I'd prefer cold over hot foods.

skip the deviled eggs and go with crab+shrimp salad instead. make sure to keep it extra cold before the big day.

also, does she have any food allergies? don't want to ruin your picnic with a trip to the hospital.

Well, that was the first thing I did, ask her if she's allergic to anything, since I also didn't wanna give her flowers that she's allergic to, but yea

I'll try that crab+shrimp and see how it turns out

I recommend a Surf and Turf Burrito with mayo guacamole and mango pineapple hot salsa. Pair it with a delicious can of Miller's Extra Light beer at only 64 calories. A superior beverage for a superior picnic.

I'd go for some Rose wine if anything. All my friends recommended the same thing, but I'm not a booze sort of person, and I don't feel like coming across as a dandy if she ain't either xD

Just to get a general idea of how bad I am with booze, for my 18th, my mom bought me this vintage wine from eighteen-eighty-something, I opened it in the middle of the night (with a large pop, because I'm a moron who forgot to unscrew the cork), had a taste, and then basically threw away the rest (only a third of the bottle was left, the rest was mostly on the kitchen counter and the floor).

Yep, Rose wine is fine, she will like it. You can also try some sweet Riesling wine, you can't go wrong with it. If it's available, Asti Martini is a bit more expensive as far as sparkling wine goes, but she is bound to like it very much.

I think your menu is solid. Sandwiches are easy to handle. Like fred mentioned. Tiramisu might be too ambitious if you're not an expierienced cook. I mean the recepie is not hard, but it can be tricky to find the right method to "get it right". You can try and if she's not a snob she will probably appreciate your effort. There are easier desserts, you can go for a choclatte mousse or some sort of simple cheesecake with fruits.

You might want to try tortilla rolls as a snack. They're pretty popular around here, there are many variants: https://www.thecookierookie.com/ham-cheese-ranch-rollups/. They can be prepared beforehand and served cold.

Or here's another idea: buy a disposable grill and try some grilled vegetables and shishkebab (meat + vegetables variant).

Dude, don't sweat it.  Just make sure your mouth doesn't reek and your a-hole doesn't whistle after the meal.  Carry gum with you, and don't, for the love of God, don't place your concerns on the food so much that you forget what the date is all about in the first place.

I caught a wild groundhog if you're interested, with the liver, heart & kidneys intact. Let me know. It's submerged in saltwater right now.

't least we're fortunate enough to be able to have any kind of meat we want. Ancient Roman historian Cassius Dio said of those in ancient Britain that "they plunge into the swamps and exist there for many days with only their heads above water, and in the forests they support themselves upon bark and roots, and for all emergencies they prepare a certain kind of food, the eating of a small portion of which, the size of a bean, prevents them from feeling either hunger or thirst" (Roman History, LXXVII.12.1-4).

I can't find my previous comment. Was it deleted by mistake?
I was guys wondering how do you pack the food while going on a picnic? Do you have special cutlery, plates, and cups that keep the food compact?
Speaking of the recipes, I suggest going for crustless pumpkin pie or strawberry poke cake. Go here https://sweetandsavorymeals.com to find the recipes, and let us know how the date went.
