Poll Question:
Should clapping be banned at public events?

The concern raised with clapping has been primarily two things:

1) It needs to be banned for safety reasons, because clapping to show solidarity with a view can cause anxiety with those who disagree.

2) Some people (i.e. autism spectrum) experience distress in environments with a lot of clapping.

Thoughts? Also, if it were banned, what sort of legal penalties should be put in place?

Responses:

No

personally, i find most of his lunatic rantings entertaining. he's much more entertaining imo, than say, artu, minion, jj, or others like him. he writes better, and i don't think he takes himself as seriously as the others. i have a hard time even believing he genuinely agrees with what he posts.

A schoolboard in Colorado (among other places) have banned clapping at meetings. It's also, to my knowledge, been banned at certain events in Cambridge and Oxford.

So no, it is real life.

That's because he doesnt genuinely agree, it's satire and this kind of overzealous political correctness has nothing to do with "our" objections about abysmal covid conspiracies, scientific studies about gender and other stuff that you insist to stay as ignorant as a medieval peasant. It's you who puts all of this in one binary basket in the most shallow sense, because it is you who percieves the world as a doomsday battle between "the globalists" and "the free thinkers." And speaking of taking oneself seriously, it is you who is under the impression that his lunacy is free thinking to the point of ranting about how the day shall come that we will all pay and so on but since a dozen people suggesting you go see a shrink wont let you realize how off you are, nothing can.

I think, it's public events that should be banned for safety reasons. Alternatively, all utterances should be banned, like cat-calls, booing, footstomping and so on, since all this can lead to serious anxiety problems with highly sensitive people and to unforseeable (panic) reactions.

People might be allowed to wave colored rags to show approval or disapproval, say, black for disapproval, yellow for strong approval and red for demanding the blood of the offenders in question.

Red flag

Expressing disapproval in public should also be banned as a token of understanding and empathy for those gentle souls that can't stand rejection of any form.

Joking should be illegal though. People who don't get it tend to feel ostracized.

I fail to see what is so funny. I actually know people who experience significant pain and anxiety in these sort of situations. Establishing safe spaces gives a chance for everybody to have a voice. That is why divergent opinions should have to be expressed elsewhere - not in public - instead of in that setting.

There are those who say that's the result of the permanent positive reinforcement the little princes and princesses are met with in these modern times - in other words, that , for example, even the most insipid, trivial scribble are lauded as the work of a little Picasso - but that's of course unfounded defeatism of childless haters.

For a toddler/early adolescent, it's good to praise a drawing even though it looks like complete ****. At that age they almost exclusively want love/validation anyway and aren't so much interested in the material itself.

But after a certain point in age - roughly 7 to 9 - Little Jimmy does need to understand that his drawing is a piece of **** unless he works on some things, or otherwise it starts to become toxic to him maturing into an adult.

Of course you got people like Mozart who were given the stick by the time he was 3 and worked like a galley slave at his art for thousands of hours, but then again, he grew up with some significant mental issues from it and so did a lot of people like him. Doing much of anything other than music or partying caused him anxiety and fear.

Actually in the last downpour a woman used her canoe to navigate the streets. I don't know if she passed through any schools tho.

It's typical oversight to mention "Little Jimmy", but not "Little Mary". Gender equality is still underrepresented.

Kids are smarter than you think. Just be pedagogue, doh.
Of course outright telling "your thing looks like ****" won't do wonders at 7-9 either, or at any age actually.
