Flood protection query
Hey guys,
I don't suppose someone could provide more/extra detail about how the flood protection system works as I've been locked out of this site for 5 days.
Because I've had plenty of time waiting to look into it lol I've read Val's old thread about it and the FAQ section part on it and none of it seems to explain what happened to me as it all points to red star rating and posting too much on the site.
To start with I hadn't visited or posted on the site in weeks yet the moment I returned this week and tried I got hit with the flood protection message with an EPIC seconds remaining counter of like 4 or 5 hundred thousand! After a couple of days of confusion I asked over at CH if anyone else was having troubles and CH admin Pol was kind enough to try and he had no troubles despite being the default 2 red star rated like me. I can also see other posts on the forum over the last few days from other 2 red star users too.
So if I can get essentially locked out of the site for 5 days when I haven't posted in weeks, and other people with the same red star level as me can still post just then what other factors decide who can post and who can't?
eg is it region based? or do yellow stars come into it? thread versus post ratio? Trying to think of a difference between me and the other 2 red star people posting over the last week just fine.

Mods can enforce a flood protect as punishment but your account does not currently have a flood protect set to nonzero value. You are posting now, so is there still a problem?

Nope all good now thanks, I've been able to do a whole bunch of posts with no problems. I'm just wondering what on earth happened to cause the site to lock me out for 5 days. Also figured I'd ask just in case there's a bug or technical issue with the flood system that needs to be looked at.
Hmm if it can also be a punishment option then that makes this even stranger. I hadn't been on the site in weeks before I tried to post so I hadn't even been here to annoy any Mods haha.
My last post before the flood lockout was over a month ago back in late Jan and was a pretty boring non-event post that wasn't in an argument or debate etc.
In fact I don't think I've ever had any sort of incident on this site arguing with anymore, and have certainly never been told off by a mod for doing anything naughty lol.
Maybe one of the mods was testing it and thought "this guy hasn't been on in weeks so he won't even notice" haha.
