RoE = Might
SoD = Both
HotA = Both in 1.7.2
WoG = Might in one script named Hero Speciality Booster, otherwise both without a script
H4 = Both
EDIT Hexis and Rylos are the same identity.. But it was fun..

I know the conventional wisdom is that might heroes scale better into the late game but I don't neccesarily think that's always true. After level 10 most classes only have a slight tilt towards one stat or another when they role for their stat increase and magic heroes typically have more momentum and can take bigger fights sooner.
I think the individual hero matters more than whether its a might or a magic hero. Obviously Crag Hack and Tazar are going to outscale most magic heroes but Malekith and Andra are also going to outscale most might heroes, for example. Might heroes might generally be more likely to roll better skills but that varies a bit based on class.
For example maybe the typical overlord is going to roll into better skills on average than the typical warlock, but I'd argue that the typical cleric will roll better on average than the typical knight. Even the dicussion of what classes are better is very map dependent, though. Maybe you're playing on a map with a lot of water and will be doing a lot a sieges, and you actually want to role ballistics and navigation a lot. Then knights are great. Or maybe you're on a template where you'll have a ton of gold and really want diplomacy so you'd rather a cleric.
If it's a map that's relatively small maybe logistics is all you need to get around, but if you *really need* earth and air then magic heroes are really valuable even if they don't roll offense and armorer as much.

I would say: It depends. In terms of rushing a random map might heroes are often better due to their starting armee. But otherwise there are heroes like Grindan, Jeddite and Alamar who can be the easiest solution for a bad biome.
On custom maps I really don't care much about my starting hero.
