Ring of Health is probably most necessary
There are lots of things to increase hero DEF but too littler for HP
Thus why I included using up to four in my mod.

Warlords ring in most cases in a non campaign map, then other offense/defense bonus artifacts then ring of health, sometimes ring of health may be a priority, but that is only if you build an only hero army of casters which are not summoners.
On most campaigns a bag of gold or sometimes the ring of health, depends on the map, if it's the first ones, a bag of gold is much worth, on later ones, ring is irreplaceable.
