Literary Help Needed
Hi. I want to create a map for Era.
My idea is to make a map quite similar to Alexander (my favorite map), where a distinctive hero must conquer the entire world following a quite determined path and the map itself is design according to geography.
I thought about using a map of the Witcher's or GoT world's but I really don't see Geralt or Daenerys as "alexanders", so I'm asking for your help.
Can you recommend a story (real or fiction) where a person ceases power and then goes on a conquering spree?
P.S. Middle age or so, without airplanes or spaceships.

Rise of Roman Empire, Genghis Khan, Napoleon.

Salamandre said: Rise of Roman Empire, Genghis Khan, Napoleon.
Genghis Khan then, I believe most of his conquests were in the middle of a continent, so not too much water to draw.

Yes, but to have a geographically realist map, you need water, seas, oceans. Otherwise it looks like a random map.

True, a map of his conquests is a non-water random map with custom names of towns...

I guess I'm going to try to make the Punic Wars. It's almost Alexander in reverse but if I use XXL mod I'll have much more space.

At the moment, I see a map of the Second Punic War starting with Hannibal somewhere in the South of the Iberic Peninsula, completely isolated from Cartage, and having to conquer Sagunto to establish a base in Europe. Now, in reality Hannibal arrived Europe with more then 35.000 men and 37 war elephants. When he finished the crossing of the Alps he had about half the men.
Would you think it makes sense to start a map with a basic hero with a gigantic army and "attrition" it to about half with ERM events completely out of player's control? While this seems narratively perfect, I guess no one will like to lose half of what he has without the possibility to fight against it...

In my first Alexander version, he had to die from illness at the end, then his body had to be buried by Hephaiston in order to end the game. I was happy about realism but players didn't like it and were confused about the end.
In last version, he survives, and players enjoyed last fight against Death himself.
So, you have history accuracy on one side, then the fun people seek when playing a game. Look, there are WW2 maps out there where you can actually win with Hitler and conquer the world. Is a game.

I knew that and I love the analogy present in that last battle. Yeah! He is as immortal as Achilles dreamed to be.
