It seems most people that like to drink are not from europe (not counting uk as europe that is) just must be the different cultures

Well, that's because most people in the world are not European! No really, I don't know why you're thinking like that - I thought Europeans drink a lot: Germans drink helluva lots of beer, Irish folks drink way lot of beer, we Finns drink lots of vodka and beer, other Nordics drink... hey really, are there people who don't drink?

I consider myself a connoisseur of fine alcohol....

Beer:  Pilzner-Urquell, NewCastle, Staropramen, Hacker-Pschorr, and my fav...Goose Island Bourban County Stout.

Wine:  RavensWood's fine array of Red Zins..., a big, fat, cab, or a really spicy merlot.  Mer Soleil has the best Chardonnay I've ever had.

Liquor:  Liquor!?  Lol, I just met her!

Tequila:  Patron, El Tesoro, El Jimador

Vodka:  Belvedere and Grey Goose

Gin:  Don't mess with it anymore but Bombay Sapphire was my fav.

Scotch:  Single Malt, there is no other.  Glenfiddich 18 year single malt is the best, most affordable.

Bourban:  Um, Jim Beam, Knob Creek and Baker's my fav.

Rum:  We Yanks don't get the best in the world, thank you very much Cuban embargo.  Bacardi, from what I've been told, doesn't hold a candle to them.

Cordials:  Port, preferably Graham's Ten Year Tawny.  I don't like Grand Marnier straight, or Cointreau or Sambuca for that matter.  Cointreau, imho, is best served w/ Margaritas.

Champagne:  Veuve is my fav.  Cristal(is that how it's spelled?)  is way beyond my budget.

Alcohol....My Thoughts.....

Every pleasure has its pain.....

to be continued......

I think about the time of Prohibition here in the united states when people talk about the significance of alcohol. I am one of those people who believes that more people were drinking during that time than any other time in my country's history.

I do not know why exactly but alcohol is something that seems to be inevitably and unremovably intertwined with people. Even if you don't drink alcohol, chances are you don't go out of your way to stop someone else from drinking it.

When I was in the u.s. airforce, I was training to become a special forces pararescueman. In this training, the first school of the 'pipeline' is administered in SanAntonio, Tx. This initial school is where you are put through a series of tests both physically and mentally to see if you are worthy to advance on to some of the airforce's most expensive schooling. That's why it is so rigorous. The government pays a lot of money on those that graduate, so they want to be assured their investment will not be wasted by seeing you drop out or disqualify.

Inside this school, in a room for visiting and common area, there is a wall lined with commemorate plaques. Each plaque carries with it a picture of the classmates that graduated from a particular class and year. I remember one in particular. It had no pictures, only a bottle with a skull and crossed bones. Under the finely brushed artwork was a message that read, "Every pleasure has its pain...class of...year...".

Apparently in the year that class was going through, they had whittled down to about 10 or 12 graduates. They were all ready to graduate and decided to go out to a club the night before graduation. All except for one guy. This one guy stayed behind and went to bed early.

In this school, it is expressedly forbidden to drink any alcohol during training. The day before graduation was technically still training. Apparently, an instructor had actually gone with the classmates to the club and took account of each person that had a drink of alcohol. When the unit chief discovered what had happened, all the students were "washed out"(expelled) and the one guy who stayed behind was the only man to graduate for that class.

Alcohol.. Well, I never drank lots, only once and that was a more like not-so.good-experience lol.
It was a birthdayparty (18th) of a friend - and I dindt really watch how much i drank. So I ended up with having drunk 3 liters of Astra-Beer lol. Well, I accidently arrived not at my house but at the house of my neighbour. His elder bro took care that I arrived hom though ö.Ö

Well, after that I kinda felt that I didn't want such a thing to happen again, the only alc I drank since when was some wine at the one or other "event" (birthdays, or similar occasions).

SOme tastes nice, some not - I somehow realized that i dont like Beer very much after all Well a wine is nice and whiskey can be tastey, too - but, well I told myself not to drink "above thirst" again. At least not so much that it would 'apply this certain changes to my behaviour' too obviously

I only drink beer and a glass of wine at occasions.  Beer is good for the organism if not consumed in huge amounts. Belive it or not in my country beer isn't considered a beverage any more, but an aliment!
Actually that's not a moral justification for drinking beer, but a legal way to avoid high taxes for import of alchool

My mind is my sword. And such a sharp and shiny sword it is! I will have to make a living from what I can do with my sword, and I use it all the time. I practice with it, I communicate with it, I use it as a tool for politics.

And when I am blessed with such an exellent sword, I don't go about beating it against rocks. I don't use it to chop wood. I keep it clean, and always tries to sharpen it.

In short, I don't drink alcohol, and I don't do drugs. Those two are the Mind Killers...

but there is this 2 nice sayings about american beer - I just have to tell

"What do american beer and sex in a canoo have in common? - Both is fu***** close to water"

"American beer is water that was once told about beer."

Oh, and did you know that beer contains female hormones? (i hope its the right word) If you drink too much of it you start to talk very much without telling something imprtant

I have learned too. After some bad nights of drinking so much that I blacked out, I've realized that drinking just isn't for me...

I can have the same fun without the alcohol, be sure - I have nice evenings full of fun without drinking the hell outof it. And I don't really think that i miss sonething.

So, basically, what you're saying is that we can't have fun cos we don't drink?

I really resent such narrow minded thinking...

If you were in Ireland we'd have to stone you to death for blasphemy
As for not liking the taste of beer, you're not supposed to LIKE it the first time you taste it. You have to mature your taste buds into it.
I don't understand what you people have against alcohol (as long as you're the legal age in your respective countries), but it's hardly the root of all evil.

Beer tastes just fine (at least after the first two bottles), at least better than Vodka or any other form of alcohol...

As for it (alcohol) being the root of all evil: We humans have been drinking the stuff for thousands of years, and not taken any damage from if (uh?). But I just don't drink it anymore, anyway.
