Creature Stacks

Creature Stacks seriously hamper the strategy of battles!  Make a new and more in depth format for making war.
example: Take a look at the picture on the front of your cd case or the front of the box the game came in.  Look at how the creatures are not in stacks, there are some medusas leading a charge into some castle units.  IF the gameplay was the same this would allow many many more tactical and strategical decisions in battle!
I am suggesting that Heroes would command their troops not as 7 stacks but rather as a individual units that can be grouped together or even placed in certain formations.
For instance 20 marksmen and 10 crusaders could be grouped together so that the hero could command them as 1 unit.
Of course I don't know all the details of how this would or could work but I do know that 3do has the capability to make it happen

creature stacks

Forgot to add this.

Realistically how is a walking pikemen supposed to attack a griffin flying 20 feet overhead?
Little details like this are overlooked in regular battle there are lots more but I don't want to start listing things just wanted to say my piece about stacks.

Well Realistically, how does a griffin flying 20 feet overhead attack a walking pikemen?

He would swoop down, to attack, and of course, that would probably be when the pikemen can take down the griffin, but i guess i see what your saying.

It is good having individual units, not stacks. But in that case the game and units will be more detailed. What happens if I have 1000 skels and 50 dragons. Dragons was supposed to be bigger in Heroes 4, and if we have 50 individual dragons.....a mess.
But I see your point,it could be good to have individual units and I's sure 3do will come up with something.

Have fun guys...

There is no way to have turned based battles with individual units that I can think of. Not counting the "mess", the time for such battles will be enourmous. Individual units can exist only in real-time battles, but I bet we don't want this in Heroes 4.

turn based vs. individual units

I dunno about this one.  I, personally think that the turns take long enough as it is, especially when there are at least three people playing... (8 human players can be a mess!)  Just think of about 50 individual units being told to move in a battle... not to mention the preparation of the individual parties and armies...  och!  It could be mind bending, especially if you're playing against someone who isn't as quick on the ball or has a slower connection... you could finish a novel in one play session... and still pay attention to everything that's happening!!

now now... hold up a sec, we have something good here

not as individual units, but as formations (stacks) that are custumized, for instance, every troop stack has 7 hex slots, you can put marksman in the middle, surrounded by pikemen or angels, so any attacking unit has to clear at least 1 hex of pikemen befor it can reach the hex loaded with as many possible marksmen, each unit has so much % of a hex, and the total is what will fit in a hex,
i already mentioned this part in previous topic, about the how many / hex creatures, in 7 hex stacks... but the formations is the redeeming value here, i haddn't thought of it,
um... basic overview of preveious topic
(since i don't remember the name of it, it was something to do with stacks being elliminated, and we went through the whole debate already, maby evan twice)
ghost dragon = .5 hex
skell = .0005 hex
a troop stack can hold 7 hexes, totaling 5000 skells, or 14 ghost dragons, this gives creature stack limits, adjusting for size on the battel field aswell,
problems? so far i can see the creature picture might take up 2+ hexes, while the creature stack number is .5,

I see where your coming from i think battles could be improved at during the start you were able to spilt your units into smaller groups maybe only into 3 groups. This would allow you to protect archers better, stop implosion being so powerful and allow you to block sections of the map better with  flying creatures being able to fly over troops heads. At the end of the battle all creatures would be returned to one stack. This could work but there has to bve a limit in how much any stack can be split id say 3 is fair.

Disagree...

I disagree with all this idea, I personally think that there should be the old simple stacks that look like 1 unit.
