Spells: scrolls and parchments

How to use them? It just says "Your hero must have the right skills to learn them". Which are those skills? Where can I see them?

Try putting it on your hand, and it will tell you what skill you need to use them.

however with scrolls, you don't need the proper skill.

Those are probably the most useless items in Heroes 4. They take up so much space and chance is you can't use most of them.

you do can use scrolls. Like when you haven't got a shield yet, or a staff. You might want to use a scroll for usefull spells like teleport or lightning bolt when playing life etc.

the problem is that you end up with so many goddam scrolls that you just can't be bothered scrolling thru them and selecting one. Spells on scrolls should be copied into spellbooks and then the scroll disappears, kind of like a once off shrine. what do you think?

Good point...

but I think it would be better if you could open your hero's inventory during battle and change the scrolls.

then scrolls would be like parchments, what I think is that parchments should be used automatically if the hero has the proper skill, since now you have to check each time...

I think that spell scrolls and parchments should be a one-time only thing, like in Might and Magic: You use the scroll or parchment, and it's gone. Besides, I never use spell scrolls anyway.

Scrolls are one time use. You don't need any skills, you can just cast them as they come, but only once. Just like in Diablo. From parchments you can learn the spell, if you have the proper skills, but you can't cast it in battle before you've learned it.

How do you learn a spell?

There are plenty of ways for learning spells. The easiest one is building the Mage Guild and when your hero visits the town he will learn the spells provided by the Mage Guild, if he has the proper skills. Other ways are using parchments (you just put them in your hand), and visiting different buildings on the map.

how to ransfer a parchment to another hero

I am new to the game. I am unable to figure out how to transfer parchment (or scroll, artifact, or whatever) from one hero who picked it up following a battle to another, who would be able to use the item.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

You just click and drag the artifact from one hero to the portrait of another in the same army, in your army screen

(In my "Greatest Mod", I have modified parchments and scrolls so they use the "Misc" slot; now you can have up to four scrolls at the same time, instead of just one)
