Ah, if it's stopped on a map file, you may have accidentally modified that map file yourself! Open editor, poke around for a while, close editor ... file is modified and patch will fail.
You have your own copy of that map, you know, on the CD the game was installed from. Back up anything you don't want overwritten and run the installer again, and you should be right. (I think re-installing will leave savegames alone.)
