Anyway, It could be done well, it would have to focus on limited elements.
Have maybe a necromancer (Sandro) doing something evil, and people from the Preserve or Haven doing something to oppose Sandro. toss in some mercenaries (Crag Hack) as an unknown factor (siding with money above all), and you could have a decent story and lots of cool battles.
There could even be a sub-plot that is a quest for the grail.
There are enough unique creature abilities that all of the battles could be interesting. It would be best to use the Heroes 4 towns and heroes though, just because you'd want armies with several heroes in the movie, since generic creature-fodder aren't that interesting as characters.

I think it is a good idea, but only with a big capital! Cheap movie wouldn´t go at all. Customs, affects, legends,battles,etc...
