Blatant misuse of Moderator Power...

... may be the silliest statement I've read in recent memory.  I've actually been reading, but not posting in a number of the recent threads including the "andi for mod" series as well as "locking threads" with quite some bewilderment.

All I have to say is...

'Fer cryin' out loud, peoples, Heroes Community is not a right, it's a privelege!  This is not some government organization whose services are guarenteed to us by some sort of Constitution, it's basically a place to electronically chew the fat with a bunch of other people who happen to like heroes.  If Val and his minions (of the moderator variety) decide that a post is innapropriate, that is well within their rights since guess what... Val is paying for this.  See that little PayPal thing at the top of the screen, as of the time that I wrote this, there's a little $0 underneath it.  I, myself am guilty of this, too, but come on.  Let's say that you've been invited to somebodies house and they are making a pitcher of delicious martinis (even using Bombay Sapphire to make it ever more delicious).  You feel that the addition of lemon zest would make the refreshments ever more tantilizing.  However, the host either a. does not have lemons, b. does not like lemons or c. knows that one of the other guests is allergic to lemons and as such does not add lemon zest to the martini shaker prior to creating the gin and vermouth creation that makes the gods go weak in the knees.  YOUR HOST IS NOT ABUSING HIS POWER!  You have no inherent right to lemon zest just as you have no inherent right to post in any particular thread or have any particular person as a moderator or have a thread devoted entirely to goat porn or anything like that.

'nuff said.

Since this thread will probably lead to people yelling at me, I would like to make a rule for this thread.  Any post after this one must start with a description of your favorite ice cream flavor and what makes it so delicious.  People have trouble flaming if they're thinking about ice cream.

My favorite flavor is mint chocolate chip.  I'd actually be quite happy with simple mint ice cream, but very few places sell it.  Mint is the king of flavorings.  The society that invents the first mint flavored intoxicant that isn't god awful nasty (ie - mint juleps) will be the society that conquers the world.

So what? If you don't like it, you don't have to be here. Val is still paying for this and he may, and is allowed to, do just annything he wishes with this forum. You think it's not fair? Well, sue him!

Maybe it was you who missed a point... this service is provided to you at no cost at all, so I don't think that you (or anyone else) can afford to whine about what the mods or Val does with your threads/posts.

Well, if there is nothing inapropriante, they wouldn't close it now, would they?  I usually agree with Bort for his common sense amd hatered of SUV drivers.  And I agree now.

We are lucky as a community that we are actually allowed as much input as we have, ie, the ability to edit our own posts and being allowed to voice ur opinions openly.  Threads here is they become far too much are just locked.  On some other forums I have visited they are deketed, warnings are posted, and replys to those warnings are deleted also.  Some forums on the net are ruled with an iron fist, which isn't very enjoyable.

I think certain people here are taking their freedom for granted... most of the forums I visit often are quite liberal (or about hair and make-up, right RainBow...? lol), as I don't like the harsh dictatorial atmosphere.

But I can appreciate that perhaps this forum is too liberal. Let's use this analogy, since Val likes children.  Val's the "parent" the mods are the "babysitters" and we are the little kiddies.  now, most kids like to rebel against their parents.. it is natural.  But Val is a liberal parent.. the child draws on the wall trying to get his attention.  Val says "that's okay, it's all part of growing up".  The child then throws his dinner at the other children.  Val laughs and cleans up he mess.  You get the picture.. the kids want any attention, as Val isn't home much, but because Val is tolerant when he is home, the kids feel slighted and try for negative attention.  This just doesn't work.

When Val goes out, he leaves his kids with a babysitter in daycare.  Lith, Hex and RMS look after the more rowdy kids in one daycare centre, and Hexa has the well-behaved children in another.  However, the well-behaved children don't feel they have had enough attention from daddy Val and so turn naughty and terrorise Hexa.  Hexa isn't allowed to smack the kids, because they are Val's kids.  He has to wait for Val to come and smack them himself.  Except Val believes smacking is wrong.

But then the naughty kids make some of the other kids cry, and Hexa is really annoyed now, and since Val doesn't want to lose his daycarer, he decides to smack his kids, give hexa permission to smack them too, and maybe to stay at home more to give them the attention they need.

The hopeful optimistic ending:- When they have daddy Val's love and attention, the kids will be good.

More likely ending:- Val puts the children up for adoption

There we gooo....

My fave ice cream flavours are mint-choc-chip, cookie dough and baileys, although not all that the same time.  That would be disgusting and... just eeeuuuuwwww! lol

I dislike that statement, because it assumes that the mods are always right and just, without presenting any evidence that this is so. Itīs the old "no smoke without fire" argument that is used to push evidence and reason aside and support tyrrany and mob mentality. Iīm sure itīs innocent this time, but the general principle behind talking like that is absolutely appaling, and if I posted something like that I would feel ashamed.

Things like that have gotten ppl burned as witches for example (well if she isnīt a witch, why is she on trial?) and is a disgrace to mankind.

Wheather or not something is inapropriate in a thread has nothing to do with whether a mod can close it or not. He can always close it, the forum mechanics give him that power. It is the mod himself that decides to close it and Im 100% sure that a mod could close a thread even if there is nothing inapropriate. Itīs up to the mod.

Itīs been a long time since I saw someone say so much in one single sentence, and itīs been a while since I heard something so evil. Itīs not an aware evil, but itīs the evil of the human group hazing the one they chose to destroy. The witch, the fat kid at school, or some other scapegoat.

Everytime you express your opinion on something, you have a responsibility. Expecially when someone cares about what you are expressing your opinion about. This post isnīt that important i guess, but still. Try to listen to reason isntead of that cruel caveman inside.. too many ppl have fallen to him already. And I want no part of it.

I've already listed my favorite ice cream, so here is another one that is good : Vodka Sorbet.  Not because it tastes like vodka or has any intoxicating power but because it's such a pleasant surprise.  I had it at one of those hoity-toity restaurants where they come and brush the crumbs off of the table in between courses to show 1.  they are classy and 2. you are messy.  Anyway, I was a bit credulous about trying it, I mean, come on, Vodka sorbet??  I mean, vodka's okay and all (assuming it is grey goose, otherwise there's a certain why bother aspect to vodka, imho).  However, despite(or perhaps because of) not having any semblance to actual vodka, the sorbet was incredibly light and refreshing as if my mouth was being scrubbed by tiny cleansing clouds.

See, you're all missing the point, I specifically told you to say WHY you like your particular flavor of ice cream.  Some people...

Oh and to be on topic, I completely and utterly disagree with bort.  He is a moron.

No no noo...    itīs the assumption that is wrong. You shouldnīt assume that the mods are right just because they are mods. That is the error.

Each case has to be reviewed impartially. How would you feel if someone did something to you in error and someone told you "Oh well he did it, so he must have had some reason to do it, cause heīs sucha  nice guy"

You wouldnīt be happy. And on the other hand, that is the behaviour your post supports. this is wrong. On the other hand, itīs not such a big deal, unless youīre into principles.

The best current ice cream company is probably double rainbow ice cream from San Francisco.  Although their flavors lack the creativity of Ben and Jerry's, they do what they do so well that there is no need to resort to gimmicks such as The Full Vermonty, etc.  The best ice cream company of all time was Jeremy's MicroBatch which unfortunately is now defunct along with the $750 I invested in them.  Serves me right for making an investment based on my girlfriend's cravings...  The best ice cream of all is made by the University of Wisconsin - Madison Agriculture School.  They don't go in for any of this "low-fat" crap there.  (speaking of low-fat, one of the most entertaining meals I ever had was with 4, shall we say "rotund" midwesterners.  5 people, 6(!!!) apetizers all of which were deep fried.  I've never seen people so capable of packing it away.  I had ice cream for desert).

What's wrong with locking a thread because it doesn't fit popular demand?  Locking a thread like this serves 3 purposes:
1.  Saves bandwidth/server space
2.  Means that the mods have fewer threads that they have to monitor on a daily basis
3.  Allows stimulating conversations such as this one.
