Heroes 3 Is ancient!

I played a game vs Rollipolli the other day;  I hadnt had a heroes 3 game in at least 4 months.  On the other hand I've been playing homm4 for the past few months.

What I can say is, man homm3 felt like homm2, in graphics, and interface.  It felt very restrictive in gaming tactics and such; I felt like the battle were 'repeat' wait same order for everything; it wasnt a thinking game but a pattern game now.   And man, it looked boring.

Not to be against homm3, but those of you dissing homm4, im sorry to say, in my opinion its got a whole lot more to it.... a whole lot more.  Its like playing the original doom with its degrees of freedom to quake 3 and its degrees of freedom.  You have SO much more to do!

Coming from someone whos played homm3, 2 and 1 from the beginning, but gave homm4 a chance and played tons of multi h4, man I tell you I cannot touch homm3 again.  Similar to craig how he said to him homm3. doesnt have much life, I am with him on that point.

Homm4 compared to homm3 in my eyes is like homm3 compared to homm1.

I know most of you will freak and disagree, but like Ive said, Ive played from the beginning, and what the root of the problem is 3d0 and their lack of multi support.  I can only hope, that a stable multiplayer will come out in the future, and some of you will feel like I do after a few months of homm4 gaming.

yeah homm 3 is ancient - but whoever knows ancients knows: they are good, tuff and hard to beat

homm 4 is new - but vs. other new games like warcraft3, nwn, morrowind homm 4 it is pure crap (i correct myself : pure crap withut multiplayer).

battles take damn long, towns are not balanced, bugs over and over, 3do and so on and so on... there are so many factors that make me believe homm 4 will be dead very soon.

Well again I recently got back into playing some H4, with the 1.3 patch things move much more fluently and is much easier to sit through a whole game.

I am enjoying hotseat, single player maps I get from some sites I found, and now having finished all the campaigns, I would say that the towns, despite beleif are VERY balanced, they just excel in different aspects of the game.

Mirrored does not = balanced
Many factors do.

And with H4 there are many many things that balance all the towns, monsters ect.. I think the main thing is that towns will fit certain players style.

But I will definately be playing some H4 multi.. I certainly won't abandon H3 as I still enjoy every minute of most games I play with it.

anyway thats all for now..

H4 completely lacks the spirit of H3. The simple thought of going around with more than one hero in the same army is totally pathetic. The Behemoth graphics border on blasphemy - what happened to that magnificent creature that roamed the mountain ranges in H3? No need to rattle off the other fifty million negatives about H4 - the list would always be far from complete.

H3 is boring if the map is boring - H4 is boring by definition.

this is a tough one, but here goes...

In my oppinion Ves is right in the fact that Heroes 3 is limited. I played a few games a few months ago and Id take literally 1 min turns and Id use quick combat for 95% of the battles because I find the battles to be utterly boring. not to mention I could conquer a map using quick combat since I played heroes long enough to know which combos win with very few to no losses.

On the other hand, I think 3do might have ruined Heroes 4 with the way they seem to be handling the whole thing, so I cant say it's any better than Heroes 3, and in fact Id rather play a Heroes 3 game online then any single player H4 game if them was the only 2 choices I had. but to be honest Id rather sit around and surf the net then play either of em

And on a final note...I will add Heroes 4 has potential to be fun, but I think heroes 3 days are pretty much gone for me. But heroes 3 is #1 on my list of favorite PC games of all time.

I wont be playing heroes4 for ToH, but thanks for the opportunity to play in a great tourney Ves. Mayhaps I'll be back for heroes5.

For now, so many better games beckon, why would I play heroes4 over NwN, WC3, etc etc.

Later all.

Jb --  The reason for this very statement is because of the way all FIXED maps are designed! This is the MAIN reason I have gone to RANDOM maps.  As you said on 99% of all fixed maps they all have the SAME feel and basic style of low level creatures guarding mines that are right outside your castle. etc.

On RandomXL those level 1 or 2's might be Throng's  so not quite so easy to beat. So you can NEVER really use quick combat on RandomXL. lol.  I just thought it was funny the way ytou described that JB.  That is presisly why I quit playing FIXED week3 rush maps.

Now on to Heroes 4.   I dont got a lot of room to talk onm this issue since I have probably logged a total of 1 hour in the game.  And that was in 7 different sittings!!  I just get way to bored!  There are several things about game that bore me.

1.  Lack of town creatures!!  HeroesIII had 7 creatures, and HeroesIV has 4 creatures!  BORING!

2.  To easy to build mage guild.  Even though you must master a certain magic before you can use the spells it still seems silly to have the mage guild cost 1000 gold and 1 wood!!  LMAO  Might as well just give all towns prebuilt with Level 5 guild hehe.

I could go on but maybe I got a whole nother 1 hour before I continue lol.

Maybe Multi help some

young man

you may be able to build a high level mage guild in homm4 pretty easy, but it is useless if you cannot learn the spells, for you dont have the skill level.  And due to the prerequisites to get that high a skill to learn high level spells, it isnt easier to get them its harder.

It essentially turned about; building for spells is made easier, while learning them is made much harder.

lol

For a game you both profess to love soo much,,,
Now it's snow,,give me a break,,,

I never thought I would agree with AndiangelTosser, but
a classic game such as chess, never becomes old!!

Granted Homm3 while being considered ANCIENT game as far as PC games are considered,,,
IS and will ALWAYS be THE BEST RPG of all time..and obviously not dead,,,,
Suddenly there are 100 players in Zone??

alas Jinxe...I was reffering to random maps mostly

I played 8 out of my last 10 Heroes 3 games on random maps. so I know it wasnt only the map that had me bored...

but rych brings a good point. as much as I wanna see Heroes 4 multi, it wont bum me anymore if it never comes. Ive found other games to play in my spare time.

I enjoyed and for the most part still enjoy the heroes community, so will hang around here for a long time, even if not actually playing the game

Heroes III is old now.  It was fun in its time, but now Heroes IV will donimate it now.  It was like that when heroes II was pushed aside to make way for Heroes III.

If the franchise of Heroes continues (and I hope so), then Heroes V will push aside Heroes IV and so forth.

We have to adapt to change whether we like it or not.

Yes we can still play the old games because some of them were good and there is still a nice feeling of nostalgia about it.  I am the same as I would love to play the Eye of the Beholder Trilogyagain, but i can't.  One reason is it wont work on WIN98 and the other reason it is very dated looking.

Heroes IV is here to stay.

Yes, a very wise and admirable submissive attitude. While you're at it you might as well pull down your trousers, bend over and tell 3do to go ahead and enjoy themselves. Congratulations, your wisdom is truly astounding (insert farting sounds here).

Heroes 3 SoD still carries many wonderful unexplored paths...Heroes 3.5 WoG takes the path count beyond infinity.

Take a level-60 Thorgrim equipped with the three resistance-enhancing artifacts, give him expert Armageddon + expert Sorcery + Orb of Tempestous Fire, lock him in a castle with a well-thought army + expert teleport, stone skin, air shield, prayer & slow. A huge army (for example, 2-3 times as many total hit-points) will be of very little help against him...a small army with perfect tactics will dispose of him without losses.

Hehe, nice to see that I could help

Well done dear, you have improved big time - BoB2 isn't too much of a lucky map, so be proud of yourself

EDIT
hmmm, as long as I'm at it, I can even give my 2 cents to H3/H4

H3 is getting old, still I like to play it, but not as much as I've been used to. If I couldn't do some other stuff during opponents turn (thanks to my new DSL connection ), I guess I would play only friends for fun occasionally.

H4 has some potential imo. Still there are some serious bugs in it that just have to be fixed. And I don't mean the obvious ones only, I also see some major balance problems, which will take at least one more patch after MP is out.

Furthermore, with the game being out for 3 months now, there are only few threads/posts about H4 strategies (all of them pretty obvious), which makes me wonder if there are any difficult strategies to master at all.

This can only be judged after the release of MP patch tho, so bring it on!

But what about Heroes I and Heroes II they must have had a larger affect on TOH.

Heroes II was a classic game at it time.  Surely that had a bigger chunk of the fun factor as well?

Yeah maybe its time to move on to H4..

But please.. make heroes classic so good that there is still a similar ranking system for those who want to play h3.. some ppl won´t change even if there is no option, and those ppl would still play toh if given the option to play toh for h3. I think I am one of them, cause if I´m gonna play something new, it won´t be h4, but Neverwinter Nights..
