Heroes is not real, and it shouldn't be...

I'm tired of a lot of people saying that heroes should be more reallistic. Things about Heroes Chains, Mines, Stockpiles, and etc... Ok, I like real games, but Heroes is another game, a fantasy game. To undestand what I'm trying to say, let's discuss some topics:

1) Can you build a castle in one day? Or a mage guild? I don't think so... The only explanation is that a day in Heroes is a very long time...

2) Why the creatures appears only in the beggining of the week? You have 0 pikeman. And then next day, 14 apppears!

3) Heroes Chains. If you keep trading your troops with heroes that is still able to move, then you can move your troops for a long distance. Strange, no?

4) Heroes Skills. So, you have 10 in your Attack. This should be good for the hero, but not for the troops. Or do you think a hero can teach a Hydra how to fight better, or make positional tactics to all the legions of creatures?

5) Mines. At the time you conquer a mine, you keep gaining resources ever day, no matter where the mine is. And you can waste this resources in every city.

Explanation to this unrealism: I like the game the way it's is. But I'm in favor of heroes fighting in battle, although I'm a little disappointed with the low number of creatures and cities in HOMM4.
You have to remember, that heroes is a fantasy game. You're not playing the game in a small map. The maps are huge, full of villages, countries, peasants, farms, and everthing else. There are things that you can't see, but it's necessary to keep the world moving...

I want the opinion of everybody about this...

If anybody wants more realism play Lords of The Realm, there...

1) Variable time schedule for any building

2) You recruit soldiers among your peasants creating a determined level of unhappiness based on their number.

3) Armies moves alone so there's no chaining possible.

4) There are no heroes, nor soldiers gain experience

5) The land is divided in counties. If there's a mine into your county you can make it produce its resource in amount depending on how many peasants are working there. If you need resources in another county you have to send a cart with them to there.

Explanation to this realism: you SEE the farms and the cows and their production. It's an historical-like game after all.

You are right!

Its a fantasy game, and it should be done as a fantasy game.
No realism, we have realism every day, in school, at work, at the beach...

I think its very boring if you would have to wait for a month or two to build a tavern =)

Lords of the Relm
i love that game i used to play it all the time when i wanted realism (i say used to cause my sister scratched my cd to uselessness) I loved the battles with battering rams oil pots archers good vs armorless people crossbows vs battering ram and armored men.
Great game but different type like comparing starcraft to heroes
you cant have everything in 1 game it would suck and be hard to make

usuario you are missing the point of these people whom are saying they want more realism. I don't think that they want it to be like in real life, come on, give them a break.
You are childish to say this.
I don't know what you are thinking, not that you can be thinking much !! But I don't know what to say to you....
I am seechless !!

I agree about this! A fantasy game can have realisme too!
A building can't be built at one day, that's right! But that is the gameplay...You could call it a turn instead of a day! But that would be boring!

But, I don't know what should be more realistic...Can some of you give me some examples?

Fantasy & Reality

They are just like two different planes, each one with its owns laws.

In Fantasy magic DO exists. In Reality it MAY exist.
In Fantasy dragons DO exist. In Reality they MAY exist.
In Fantasy a building CAN be built in a day by means of magic or dragon engineers. In Reality a building MAY be built in one day if enough technology is available.

In fact Fantasy has a lot of DO's and Reality has only MAY's.

But when you design your Fantasy scenario, you set up your rules too. When those rules are closer to the DO's it's called Hard Fantasy, and when are closer to the MAY's it's Soft Fantasy.

Heroes of Might and Magic is closer to Hard Fantasy than Soft.
