Chess Tournament # 2 (Revised for more activeness)

Rules:

1.) All wins and losses must be reported by each player. Each player must have beaten his/her opponent 2 times before submitting a win and vice versa.

2.) The time limit for games is to be determined before each game that the players play. Players do not have to use a time limit. If players cannot decide on a time limit, then the game will be set for 10 min.

3.) After each game the loser decides who is white and who is black.

4.) The Official Rules of Chess All necessary rules apply.

Format

* Note: There have been changes made to make it easier for everyone to play a game. *

1.) Sign up. All players who just signed up will have 0 points. You may sign up by submitting a win or loss.

2.) win = 1 point

3.) loss = -1 point

4.) You can't go under 0 points

5.) If you beat someone with 4 points more than you, then you get 2 points. You gain 1 additional point for every 3 points above 4.

6.) If you lose to someone with 4 less than you, then you lose 2 points. You lose 1 additional point for every 3 points above 4.

Ex: Player 1 has 5 points. Player 2 has 11 points. Player 1 beats Player 2. Player 1 get 2 points and Player 2 loses 2 points.

7.) If you beat someone with 5 points less than you, then you get 1/2 point.

...so does that mean everything is reset and we all have to register again? In that case, since the other one began already or something, I guess I'm signing up again.

Count me in, I have a couple questions though.
1. When does this start?
2.How do I arrange a match with someone, and where will it be played?
3.Time zones...will everyone be able to play everyone?

1.) It's ongoing until someone wins.

2.) Send an IM to a person if you see them at HC. Play here

3.) Probably not, but you won't have to the way the tournament is set up. You might end up playing the same person over and over again.

I noticed that the zone doesn't include the "3 repetition stalemate" rule.

It also doesn't have the rule where if you can survive 20 turns with just your king you get a stalemate. This is so that you don't run around the board waiting for someone to run out of time.

I think that we should also make it clear to what is a stalemate.

King vs. King + Knight

King vs. King + Bishop

You can checkmate with just:

King vs. King + 2 Bishops

King vs. King + Bishop + Knight (needs 20 move stalemate rule)

King vs. King + 2 Knights (needs 20 move stalemate rule)

I'd never heard about this rule. Is that official chess rule or something from your head(or whoevers made that rule)?

Let's say that you have a 2 knights, and a king left. Your opponent only has a king. It is possible for you to checkmate them, but they have to intentionally move into a corner in order for it to happen. Instead of waiting for time to run out and have a winner. You (not including your opponent) get 20 turns to checkmate your opponent. I have always played with this rule. But, before I include this rule, I will research this topic and any other minor rules that will greatly effect the outcome of about 1% of all games. Just in case something like this happens.

Some important rules you will see in sections:

10.4
Stalemate situation according to pieces left.

10.5
Time Limit Stalemate.

10.8
Option to postpone decision for stalemate.

10.10
3 Repetitions Rule

10.11
In other words, you must claim the stalemate during your turn OR immediately after you seal your move.

10.12
The game is going nowhere and one of the players won't accept a draw.

10.14
More "Stalemate Time Loss" Situations.

Wait, wait, wait.  There is NO such thing a 20 move rule.  If no capture, pawn move, or checkmate has taken place in the last 50 moves, then the game is called a draw.  Plus, its not called a "stalemate rule", but simply, the "50 move rule".

King vs. King+2 Knights is declared a draw, no matter what.  That would be the Insufficient Mating Material rule, another one the the five ways to draw a chess game.
