Yes but sometimes they will make the others who replied look like idiots by deleting their posts.

Which is a great thing in the VW. What you're trying to do is to shut down one of the options to make great humor that was here since the dawn of HC and nevr harmed anyone.

I just had an idea and would like to share it with all of you.

I'm pretty sure most of you know about the 1 year editing limit that we have here at HC to prevent users from abusing the power to edit posts and delete them since we had some problems with that in the past. Well I was wondering, perhaps the edit feature could be lifted so we can edit posts that are over 1 year old but perhaps the delete feature could be taken away for those posts that are over 1 year old?

I know that there are some threads of mine that I want to edit, primarily my thread 'my songs' where the first post has a lot of links of songs that have since been deleted from where they were being hosted from. I'm sure this could come in use for threads such as the Peant Planters HQ and other threads like it.

What do you all think?

Bad news for you William. Just to have the links handy since newcomers might be interested in, I place them below:

Discussion about Ownership of posts.

In the QP-posts poll, Val clearly says that this option can not be implemented.

That's sad, really. This limit is kinda wrong. I mean, sure it can be abused and "delete" the post by filling it with one space, but regarding important posts (otherwise it wouldn't be a shame to replace it with a space if it was a bad one ) I don't think anyone is that irresponsible and annoying to do that

It happened before.
And as much as this issue annoys me in regards of the Peanut Planters' HQ, I agree that everything should stay like this, unless a really good solution is found. It's better to have to move the whole post to a new page when you need to than to lose a good post because someone felt sick of it at some point.

What's the point of having a "Hot" sign on threads with a certain number of pages? (I think more than 2)

First when I was a noob I thought those "Hot" signs are made by a Moderator or someone to mark the thread as interesting, I didn't know that it's automatically done when it reaches a certain number of pages... what's the point then? Can't you as a user just see the number of pages and see how "hot" it is?

Well just asking...

It's to show when a topic has become 'popular'.

Yes but popular means 2 pages in this case? (since it appears when a thread has >= 2 pages)

And I don't really see the point of it if it's based only on the number of pages... you could always see the number of pages yourself and decide if it's popular anyway.

Yes, that's right, Asheera. However, it isn't that big of a problem. i think you are the only person to have mentioned this..ever.

Yep, that makes me the keenest observer

Ok now seriously, I never said it's a problem... I just said it's useless; I thought maybe it can be changed to be based on something else (or even be manually set by Mods like Rankings) so that it will have a use.

Just a suggestion anyway.

Wait wait wait choto mattae....

I thought the "hot" sign was only when the last post in the topic was younger than 24 hours, no?

Apart from that I think I need a HOOOOOOT sign.

No, check old threads and see that they're still "Hot".

But that's actually a very good idea Azagal, to make it be like that instead of how it's now (when having more than one page)

It's not exactly useless. Plus, it's on every kind of forum type available because it does have some use. Just shows which topics are more popular than others. It's not useless and I wouldn't exactly say it should be changed or anything.

Hey, I was wondering: can we get some PM functions in here?  Because, personally, I don't like the whole eMail thing (I'm not consistent about checking mine, and I can't tell if other people check theirs, or if they registered with junk accounts, etc.), and HCM only allows you to message online members.  Plus, if you added a function like IPB's "popup" sort of thing, that would make it a lot harder to miss messages.
