I agree that sometimes quotes can get really out of control. Ultimately it just leads me to skip over a post without reading too much into it. It is hard to read something like that. I did like the idea of an ignore button.

Then again, it's hard to read any post if doing so requires you to click the arrow down button. I lose interest too quickly.

Hmm, maybe I have an attention problem. Wait, what thread is this?

It seems like one post got accidently deleted that was relevant to the thread.

I disagree with Angelitos suggestion, partly for the same reasons as I told Will, but also because it has all the negative effects of a maximum amount of posts pr. day, but none of the postivies.
With a maximim amount of posts pr. day you at least reduce a big problem with bots, which a maximum amount of quotes does not. Yet both limit the more serious posters for whom there's no reason to have this limit. Quotes in itself is not a problem, unless you're more focused on a post structure than the actual substance, which shouldn't be a burden of the writer, as it's a choice of the reader.

Something I think is really annoying is when you watch a members post and then try to find their post in X thread and then when you click on it you just get to the first or the last post, and not their specific post in the thread. (Yeah, I did not know how to explain this one without thinking).

Or people could just quote on their own for shorter texts.

I think that the rule "you are newcomer, can't make thread" should have some nuances based on personal request. Recently, some russian modders joined the HC to show their Heroes work and they are unable to post them other than making off-topic replies. Quite embarrassing.

I think it's a good method to prevent bots, but you've got a point.

Maybe a thread that links to all works done, then you could start off by posting in that thread, something like "reserved for link" and then post the thread, because now you've more than zero posts, and then the thread creator can look through the persons thread and add link in the main post of the topic? All it'd require, I think, is for a message, when trying to create threads at zero post saying something like "if you want to share your work with us, please post in (link to thread) and write you're posting work".

Did not find something less complicate?

It should allow threads upon personal request to any moderator (mostly Angelito), proof based.

You mean like a button he can activate for a given user and then the user can post freely?

That'd of course work, I just tried to find a solution that would not be 'hard'/have to change much to implement.

Not being able to make a main thread force them to link their work- updates in replies, somewhere between page 20 and page 45 in another thread, so it gets lost.

Baratorch has got a QP within his first post, with major improve of game resolution, but he claims he can't make a thread yet and that could be changed somehow.

Black Phantom already asked for how many "replies" he needs to make a thread, so he can't and I had to make the thread for him, but updates, who will take care of?

Not sure if you described what I said. If so I don't think you understood it correct. Not sure if I am supposed to re-explain of if it would be off topic and get deleted. Well I guess I'll re-explain and if its off topic it gets deleted and that's how it goes.

What I am suggestion is the following:

Any person who creates a user and tries to create a new thread is met with a message that it is not possible, and iIRC that they should present themselves in the newcomer forum or something like that.

If including to the message: If you've some interesting work you want to share, please go here (insert thread that links to all work [to be clear, I call it thread Y]) and write you've uploaded work, then go create a thread.

Now the person can create a thread, now called X, creates thread X, and updates they've, they also add to thread X.

The thread of links to work [Not thread X] does not need the new poster to update his post with a link. All that happens is the person who stands for the thread (the one who created the thread, if you want, call it thread Y) looks at the latest posters, goes into their profile, see their thread(s) and edit the main post of the given thread, adding a link to the new thread.

Edit: all this requires is for the message of people with 0 posts who tries to create threads to be changed.

Note: I do not know if it requires 1 or more posts to create thread, I imagine 1, but I could very well be mistaken.

Also, your solution is clearly more friendly towards the persons who wants to share their work, I just think it's too complicated to get into the forum. I hope Val reads the thread eventually and will comment on it, as I think you've a rather important case here.

Just a random idea. It probably goes against the CoC, but can't we create an account and give it a lot of posts and give the password to Angelito. Then people who wants to post, but can't, can write to him, he gives them the account, then they can post from it?

If anyone ever should take advantage of it, or something, they can probably see the ip and block that if needed?

The simplest way would be to remove the variable looking for number of posts for certain users, based on personal request, so they can act freely.

Here is something I want to suggest, and I would be willing to do the extra work this would require.  Account varification by moderators.  Ie you create an account, we have to check the Email address, the ISP, and THEN you go through a trial period.  Where for a few days all your posts have to be checked and ok'd by a Moderator before showing up.  Would keep out spambots, and lower the instances of people making multiple accounts.  Of course would require a Database we would have to that would keep track of emails and isp from banned or silenced members...

What do you mean by "ok'ed by moderators"? People won't be able to post until a mod approves?

Well yes and no.  Only new accounts, and only the first few posts.  Then they 'post' but nobody but a moderator sees it, the moderator then releases it (if it isn't a spambot), and people see it.  Then people could post anywhere without limit, no need to post a few posts in established threads.

I don't like it. As Salamandre said the rule forcing people to post before they make a thread is already throwing some people off. The inability to post right away after registration and be dependent on the moderators' activity is just too much. Maybe the mods could get a notification every time a new member registers to follow them more easily from the shadows.
