When to visit Trees of Knowledge

Because it requires so many more experience points to advance to the next level when a hero is at level 15 or so, I sometimes save a few Trees of Knowledge for later use. Does anyone do that? Just curious...

Ya you probably have too. Would you rather get 1000 experience or 20000 for the same price?

That's the general rule but when you think you wont get back to the area where the tree is, get it while you are there, no matter your lvl.

I might wait because I'm short of cash and by waiting I'll usually get more XP from the tree.

It's often better to spend the money on buying tuition in the early game. A lot depends on how far away the tree is from the beaten path, if it's heavily guarded or have nearbye heavily guarded places.

In other words, will you have cause to return anyway. If the tree is 1 day away from your main town, wait because you will want to return later to visit your build up mage guild.

I act differently on trees for my primary hero versus the backups.   The backups are usually used for guarding home, transport duty that caravans won't handle and tagging resource items.  Hence they tend not to get much experience from fighting stacks or enemy heros.  For backups, I use the tree whenever I pass it.

For my main heros, I postpone the tree until later stages -- unless it seems likely that I'll not be that way again soon.

If you have a Tree of knowlodge near ur town defeat the monster guarding it and leave it until u really need it(and have money) otherwise put a scout there and wait until ur enemy defeats the monster and leaves, then u go there!

Trees near a town I usually save for later, trees in 'corners' or 'dead ends', I take when my hero is there, because it would take too much time to get back there.

Cool... and I thought I was the only one doing that.

I also use the trees immediately when the trees are far away from towns, and also when I want to learn Grandmaster Stealth as fast as possible.

Basically it gives your hero complete invisibility on the map, allowing you to pick up resouces, mines, artifacts, and other stuff on the map w/o fighting. You can move right next to an enemy hero and he can't see you. And that's not all! You can also receive experience points by standing adjacent to a creature stack -- the more powerful the stack the more experience points you get. Your hero can't carry any troops for the stealth ability to work.

Give it a try on a large map. It's pretty fun (even though it feels a bit like cheating so I don't recommend you do it too often).
