Yes..they are very slow to build up.No arguement there! I generally use the wasports until I can build up enough mantis to compliment my army..I am a ranged attack army and the mantis adds some extra muscle when needed.I generally carry along a cleric of some skill and she can keep the mantis alive long enough for victory!

You use Waspworts? I never do that. They may be brilliant for town defense, but for use on the adventure map, they're just too slow. That's why I choose either Air (Speed and Fly) or Fire (Average paced ranged firepower with decent HP) Elementals...

Lol...good point! Never really thought about that. I am just used to the damage alot of them can create,not really paying attention to that detail! I guess I better re-think my strategies! A very good point you made...no wonder it is hard for me to track down a fleeing army!

Why don't you do the calculations with phoenixes, mantises or behemoths?
1 black dragon vs 2 phoenixes
Black Dragon does 40-80 damage
Phoenix does 32-46 damage
Phoenixes wait. Black Dragon waits.
Black Dragon does 65 damage. Phoenixes retaliate for 75 damage.
Phoenixes do 72 damage. Black Dragon retaliates for 71 damage.
Phoenixes do 88 damage. (no retal)
Black Dragon does 43 damage. (no retal)
Phoenixes wait. Black Dragon waits.
Black Dragon does 64 damage. Phoenixes retaliate for 79 damage.
Phoenixes cast rebirth (+110 hp).
Phoenixes wait.
Black Dragon does 57 damage.
Phoenixes do 77 damage. Black Dragon retaliates for 71 damage.
Phoenixes kill the Dragon. Dragon retaliates for 44 damage.
Result: 2 phoenixes left.
Correction: phoenixes must play more carefully; because one bird has to die actually to be able to use rebirth. However, rebirth seems to give back 165 hp for 2 phoenixes (30%).
1 black dragon vs 2 behemoths
black dragon: 64-129 damage
behemoth: 50-72 damage
Black Dragon waits.
Behemoths defend.
Black dragon does 83 damage (51-103), behemoths do 128 damage.
Black dragon does 97 damage.
Behemoths wait.
Behemoths do 119 damage, black dragon does 73 damage. 1 behemoth dies.
Black Dragon waits.
Behemoth does 67 damage.
Black Dragon does 85 damage, behemoth does 63 damage.
Behemoth gets good morale. Behemoth kills black dragon, black dragon does 107 damage.
result: one behemoth alive with almost zero hp.
2 mantises defeat one dragon easily, on 3vs2 it's about equal (dragons win by a smal margin)

Hmm, since I don't know the retaliation rules, I suppose the results for the ones I tested could be different...

Just playing around...had 6 Mantis' and a cleric who can cast guardian angel with 6 angels...the mantis' cleaned out an entire comp army!Wow! gotta love them!!

Blak dragons are the best! one blak dragon can kill 1 mantise( or 2) lol he can kill one titan and wat is there! So, u haw my vote

the really strongest troop!
In the Poll option there aren't genies!
They're powerful with their strong magic...
They're stronger when they're 25 or more (we can use mass spells).
I used In "A Wind of Thorns" compaign to allow my troops
to make a lot of damage against legions of enemies!
(They were associated with 4 heroes having a lot of mana and "song of peace"!)
Black dragons are the strongest troops.
But the really best troop is an hero having all combat skills to greatmaster level (better before Equilibris patch! and after a lot of update in attack and defence skills in melee and ranged attacks: about 150...).
One of my heroes in Hexis compaign was able to kill 5 dragons a hit (2 strikes for turn...).
Obviously he has other 3/4 magics (Life is a must to cure himself, Order/Nature are very useful to block troops see wisps or song of peace; Caos is good to become Guards of fire and be immune against Fire Shield of efreets!)

I haven't seen devils be mentioned here.. how about 2 devils a week vs. 1 black dragon... 2 devils with 2 ice demons gotta be able to take that sucker out.. right?

Dragons
Black Dragons fly, are immune to spells, and have Fiery Breath.They are also the creatures with the most HP. Isn't it obvious they're the best?
