creature growth

I find it rather sad that there is no difference in the amount of creatures ready for recruitment, whether you have only a Fort or a Castle. Is there some explanation for this... Furthermore it is even more distressing that only Barbarians have the option of Breeding Pens.

The only creature growth modifiers are the grail structures!

Yeah... but there is no real motivation for upgrading your Fort. Only some defence.

Yes it is very expensive to buy a castle but believe it or not, a castle is beneficial.
if you only have a fort you will get rushed but if you have a castle then you can hold your opponents a turn or two depending how powerful your cratures & hero are to them .

Upgrading to a castle isn't nearly as urgent  but when the time comes ...... you'll be glad you've upgraded.

The Defensive towers provide good spots for your shooters

Just see how easy it is to take out a considerable pile of Monks  or Waspwarts mounted on one of these babies

                     AND

Nobility Heroes can modify creature growth by up to 50% !!!!

Yes. I just looked at the Multi Player Patch information. Apparently, the walls in the castles is supposed to give a lot more bonuses than they do.

Making it a lot more desirable to sit back in town and fire with your shooters.

They do full damage to a retaliation from other shooters

I don't like that black dragons grow just one per week. I must wait all eternity to buy one of them

This feature is supposed to be exclusive for barbarians as a compensation for their lack of magic. What isn't so clear yet is if the pens make barbarians stronger than other factions or magic is a better choice.

I love the new growth system.  I always hated buying new troops, shuttling them off to my new hero then getting attacked by a worthless hero that took my town because I didn't have a single creature to buy for defense.

Not to mention the fact that growth is now continuous throughout the week.   In HOMM3, you had to pay particular attention to what day of the week it was when considering what to upgrade, when to attack, etc.

Barbarians are balanced by the pens, but in my opinion the spells outwiegh the value of them, but then again I like Order and don't usually play might, so perhaps it's my lack of experience with the army talking there.

The day system IMO is far better though. In 3 the weekly thing was a right pain and also the way you can have armies acting seperate of heroes, combined with the excellent idea of caravans (that sure saves heroes running around the entire board) rocks
