Nomads - because Caravan is far cheaper than Citadel
Cyclops - no argument here, I presume
Behehots - because Thunderbirds require castles

Of course, if I played on a resource-rich map, I might take Thunderbirds rather than Behemots, simply because they are far more useful, but such maps are rare. By the time I get the resources I need, I already have Behemots built everywhere...

Yes, nomads are very usefull because they move a lot on the combat screen. They have first strike as well.Cyclopes are very powerfull when they are standing in the back tower.Thunderbirds have lithning strike.

Harpys: Let's compare. The harpys have the following abilities: flying, no retaliation, and strike & return. Nomads have....horses? Need I say more?

Cyclopses: Because of their ranged area attack ability, they make for a far better choice than the slow ogre magi.

Thunderbirds: The only thing drawing me away from the behemoths and towards the thunderbirds is that the thunderbirds have flying. Beyond that, they're about equal.

I don't really like stronghold in H4 especially because of berserkers. Call me mad but I like to control my troops, not seing them doing stupid things. But from what I played I can say the folowing:
In level 2 I like nomads best because they are though, deliver good damage and are fast.
At level 3 cyclops of course they are devastating, but ogre mages need a tweak no doubt, I only choose them once and they still are the troops I remember from h3 but cyclops are so much better.
4th level I like thunderbirds. It was so cool when I was playing with a friend of mine in hotseat and my thunderbirds struck his stack of dragon golems. There was only one dragon golem that sorvived and he said "Well, at least one remained" then the thunderbirds lightning bolt hit the dragon and kiiled him.

when ogre magi

against order. their forgetfulness will make them useless, and since it is just a lvl 3 spell, there's a big chance for life and death of getting it too.

also no line of sight, what makes it even more powerfull

As for II level, I would choose Nomads because of the First Strike and 45 life. III level: Cyclops, but mind you that in the close fight cyclops are very weak (almost like II level creature). Ogre Magi ARE slow, but very strong and 95 life. IV level: Behemots, my little experience showed they are better.
I always try to pick very tight formation unless there are cyclops (e.g.) in opposite army and put berseckers at the back or even in the middle, it'll slow them. Heroes in the front, of course.

In the Stronghold I normally choose:

Level 2 - Nomads - what else. Harpies may have swoop and no retaliation, but their citadel prerequisite is way too high for a Level 2. Nomads, on the other hand, only need a caravan and they have a whopping 45 HP, first strike, and fast speed, meaning that they can kick the enemy's tail sooner.

Level 3 - You may not like me, but I don't really like Cyclopes that much. Yes, they have high HP, ranged ability and an area attack, but they are too few in number (3/week), and their area attack can hit your own troops. This can actually kill your hero when s/he is in the middle of the battlefield. So, I consider Cyclopes too risky. Ogre Magi may be slow, but their bloodlust is pretty importnat in a hack-and-slash army, are pretty strong fighters and round up the Barbarian's wall of steel fighting approach. The answer? Ogre Magi.

Level 4 - Thunderbirds. You get 3 instead of 2, and their lightning strike is just plain deadly. Plus they're fast and they're cheaper. Behemoths are no match for these fast silver birds. But their prerequisites are cheaper.

second, I think harpy is like the equal of nomad.  They work better, move fast, and free strike, but they suck against ranged and cost more cuz of the citadal thingy.

third...ogre is garbage...only good as neutral army, cuz they will slow ur army down

fourth....usualy bird, but sometimes they are not good as behemoth.  Such as against black dragon, against faerie dragon.  Otherwise behemoth is too slow to be useful.

Easy choice.
In fact, no choice here.

2, Nomad (no resources and time to waste on a Citadel)
3, Cylope (just better, however, it is nice to have some Magi around)
4,Behemoth (no choice again, since you wouldn't build castle, would you?)

The troops I like for the stronghold town are as follows....

Level 2:  If I have time too build and the resources I prefer too get the Harpies.  But if I don't I get the Nomads.  Harpies grow at 8 per week Nomads only 6.

Level 3:  Of course I choose the Cyclops.

Level 4:  Again if I have time I prefer the Thunderbirds, but in a pinch will go with the Behemouths.

Does anyone else think it's cheap that the only thing you get for wasting all that money and resources on the Citadel and Castle is town defense?  They should have included some extra creature growth like in 3.  Or they could have made it give you some extra money.  Or maybe they could have made them cheaper with the castle, I don't know but something for wasting all those resources.

Yes but they shouldn't make it a Prerequisite for certain dwellings and not others.  I mean they could make it so that you need it for any towns 3rd level creatures.

Yeah!!!   Make it so that you can get 2nd level units without it but for 3rd you need citadel and for 4th you need Castle.  That would be a lot fairer.  I mean for the Harpies you need a citadel and that is just cheap.  Especailly because in the Necro town all you need for your Vampire Mansion is one of the 2nd level dwellings, nothing else.

Do you agree with the Citadel and Castle idea for 3rd and 4th level creatures?  Let me know.
