What creatures do you choose in academy

I choose magi,genies and titans. I dont like nagas and dragon golems.

well it would depend on the army. Against chaos this tactic would be less useful as mages and genies are next to useless against Black Dragons (although great against other units). They are my first choice on most maps, but I always try to find out a bit about the enemy first.

It also depends on the hero. One with good close combat stats would get more out of the other units. I geuss it's just a preference of the person at the time.

Genies useless? They rock against Black Dragons also. Just create an Illusion of your own Titans (who conveniently has Chaos Ward) and the enemy is dead meat, unless they can dispell the units created. (Chaos best hope for cancellation is to have evil eyes in their army. Heroes could also get it through death magic, but getting death magic is not all that easy for chaos on lower levels.)

If you face a player you can always try to target their Heroes or level 3s instead of the Blacks. And Song of Peace and Slow are very effective spells also to use on their other units. Mirth is not wrong on your own Titans.

2. Golems - they are very strong and can take a lot of punishment before they die. This is the kind of troop you can put in the very centre of the battle and they'll usually survive. Their magic resistance is also cool.

3. Genies - that's obvious, I think.

4. Titans - a powerful shooter always rocks, however the Dragon Golems are also very good.

I think genies are just too powerfull to pass by, no matter what.  They are great for keeping your other troops alive, and they can deal a huge amount of damage.  Genies are usefull against Black dragons as Djive said, but if you face a stack of just BDs your mages are useless (and often the AIs target of choice)

I usually go with magi and titans, though I wish the growth was higher on the magi.  They seem to die too easily and there are never enough replacements.  One thing, if I was fighting against necro I would choose golems (gold and dragon)

At level 2 and 4, I can live with either choice, but If I take an order town that has naga already built, I am not happy.  That is too bad, as I really do like them and think they are a great unit.

Sorry I just meant their main form of direct attack is ice bolt - no good against BD. Sure I always pick them, hell they are my favourite unit! I also like small stack of melee creatures like nagas so I can illusion them when assaulting cities so they can be illusioned then used to storm the walls, bringing the enemy into firing range!

Ahhh -- but ice bolt is not the only spell that they have, and is not usually my first choice.

I think that the genie's ability to create an illusion of any creature on the board is fantastic.   The illusions will attack, they will draw enemy fire, and at the end of the day -- your real troops have lost nothing much of the time.

I especially like having a devil in a group with the genies.  Since Order is aligned with Chaos, he does not cost too much in morale penalty (can be overcome with a badge or two) -- and with a good stack of genies, you can just keep adding to a stack of devil illusions who can teleport well behind enemy lines.

Another nice thing about create illusion is that after the first time, the new illusions add to the stack where ever they happen to be!

1st-Gold if you want to defend,Magi when sieging a castle.
2nd-Genies(good at both)
3rd-I preffer dragon golems,(the Titan's requierment[castle] is too much,an extra 15000 gold is 2 much)

Yes, but illusions are subject to the spell cancellation (and perhaps also dispel?).

In that case, it's bad that they pile up because you lose everything.

So illusion can be a bit risky in combats against the other player.

Who says that genies are bad against chaos. Their ice bolt does very much damage. And titan need castle plus 14000 gold, but vhen enemies attack a castle titans in the back tower can be very usefull. Magi is very useful wen you wan an enemy to get out of a castle. You simply cast poison ant they will come out.

  II level: I would prefer gold golems because magi army will vanish quickly fighting neutral armies on harder maps. Not to mention golems have 50 life almost like III level creature. Second, many players pick Death and vampires cannot suck golems, golems are mechanical, magic resistance etc. Magi are very very very good attacking the castle, you people have the point there.
  III level: Genies but you must protect them, put them in the middle if you can pick very tight formation.
  IV level: Titans do require castle, and again dragon golems are mechanical, that's good fighting Death. DG also get to the enemy pretty quickly, and you can Mirth them or create illusion.

2. Magi - I still have trouble with this choice because I'm not sure there spells are worth their weakness.

3. Genies - It would be Nagas, but as soon as I found out about creating illusions that went by the wayside.

4. Titans - Mainly because I've been addicted to them since HOMM 2.  I really need to branch out and try the dragon golems more often, the first strike is great.

In a perfect map I split my towns half and half for 3rd and 4th level creatures so I can put them all with a fairly buff hero and clean house.

Level 2- Magi.
Level 3- Genies.
Level 4- Never survived for long enough to build level 4...

That's a joke of course. In level 4 I ususally choose dragon golems.

second, gold golem for sure.  I need some defense.

third, genie.  Naga is close to useless, and I need a spell caster since magi is too fragile.

fourth, depend on enemy.  If they use melee units as high level creatures, i will take dragon golem.  If they use ranged or spell units or chaos I will choose titan.
