Poll Question:
How Far Will HOMM Go ( poll )

This thread is about how far in the future will Hmm go i mean what kind of creatures will they use and will there ever be a time period when Ancient creatures are extinct or will they keep it in the fantasy world.  Im also thinking will they ever use creatures up do date or use a time period in HMM when creatures change int different forms.  I know this thread is to serious for a fantasy game but Im bored so i will just write It.

I dont think the HOMM series will go any farther. if they do they will endup loosing there customers. However Final Fantasy somehow went very far in the future with success. I personally hated the idea of FF3 being in the future (well furher up) with guns that dont hurt you? I mean really a gun no matter what level a hero you are is gonna do more then 20 dmg to a guy with 9999 hp. Sorry i fell quite off course.

All I am saying is this Canuck want's Heroes to stay close to the same timeline with more men of more variations of men.

I was thinking like a timeline for creatures maybe so they would be up-dated and not stay the same

Unfortunately you can not just keep pumping out a duplicate product with the same label on it.  This is not comparing any HoMM game to another game, but it just states the point.

The HoMM series, if progressing past HoMM4, can not be just a flash of new creatures and a new campaign.
Personally I can see a bit of A and a bit of B in another future game.  Keep some of the creatures and yet add in some new ones to keep the game fresh.

It is like doing a comparison between Windows 95 and Windows 98.  Both cosmetically look pretty much identical, while practicality wise it made some small improvements.  Implementation of FAT 32, nothing actually new just implemented.  A little workout and make-over with the system files.  Whalla!  Windows 95 evolves into Windows 98!

No...  Windows 98 is still just a minor improvement over Windows 95.  Windows 98 Second Edition is just a bunch of bug fixes and some cellophane thrown in.
Now we can't compare HoMM3 with HoMM4 yet in totallity until we've played the game, but if I get your point...

Eventually the HoMM series will begin to fade unless they can introduce something new into it.  That's us, as people.  We like and trust in something new over something that is used.  Like people spend so much money on a brand new car.  I can spend so much less in an older, used car which could possibly be better than the new one.

Computers and HoMM

For Microsoft though, and their Windows 98 and 95, it maeks no difference to them a lot. People want this product because they have a PC. What else works with a PC? The new computers will need to have Windwos 98 to keep them up at the top. You can't have a new computer with old software. It doens't appeal to the consumers.
Where did computers get into this talk, anyway?
I doubt HoMM will go into the fifth of the series. The idea of gameply was excelent, so probably the best solution for the company is to make a game similar to it, with the same game engine, but a different theme. Quite like AoE and AoK. I have no idea where the company would take this game engine though.
Even an expansion for HoMM 4 won't go so well. I have this feeling HoMM 4 won't sell as well as HoMM 3 did. From the limited pics I've seen, it doesn't exactly appeal to me like HoMM 3 did.

isometrics

The graphics of H4 aren't as appealing to me either as Lady Lily mentioned. I actually still miss H2 graphics. I liked those little cartoony characters waltzing around the battlefield. The worst about H4 is the new isometric idea though, seeing everything on angle rather than top down or in side profile. It's a limited step to 3D and I think it's a bad idea. Just don't try for bad 3D either wait till technology is there, or go with what works just new artworks and hopefully more frams of animation, I like watching the trogs bob up and down or the unicorns paw the ground and all that. Personally I think some of the artwork in H4 is unattractive. It looks too glossy. The map artwork I like, except with the perspective and the way they have the towns arranged. I think it looks terrible. Why not just leave the walled castle on the map like h4, but if you want to move around inside go to a new screen after you enter the town. Make it more RPG like- with different areas of the town to travel to or whatever. Not this walking the hero on his horse around inside some bare walls with hardly anything to click on as it appears from the graphics I've seen.

The one thing I think is strange for all the special 'unique' things for each town is how all the towns structures are now in the same place. It was much better to have each town a little different before. It makes me worried about inconsistencies in the vision for the game.
