Sad, Bad Fanfiction/Experiment

Hexa: It's been a while since any fan fiction has been posted here so if you think this is inappropriate just delete it.  I'm not expecting any replies anyways.

Read at your own risk.  You have been warned.

               Happy Thoughts

The sprites glided across and slapped the skeletons, shattering them into  yellowish piles of debris.  He smiled at this small but important victory. He had needed that ore mine.  The clock in the upper left hand corner ticked down as he stared intently at the screen.  HIs mind made up, he clicked on the nearby learning stone and then ended his turn.

He slumped back into his chair while reaching for the f2 key.  'here. off 2 grate start.  got rampart.  u?'  His gaze wandered around the screen, flitting from mine to mine, searching for fights he could do.  Weighing the power at his disposal.

':-)  Order for me :-D  Should be a good fight'

He smiled as he read the words of his friend.  'ya '  He closed the chat window, he didn't like the way it blocked the view.

The electric light from the monitor lit up the small, feeble as it is.  It's pale glow gave everything a pallid tinge.  He didn't notice as he squinted at the creature information sheet; hunting for this stat or that one, already calculating the win over his friend.  It's all so easy in your head.

Taaaaaaa-Daaaaa.  His head snaps up as the chime signals his turn.  He bursts into a mass of clicking fury, wrecking vengeance upon the helpless computer foes.  Well, maybe not "bursting into a mass of clicking fury."  This is a turn based game after all.  But he did swing from complacent sloth to inspired madness.  It's amazing what the ringing of a bell can achieve.

The computer said that it was Dragonfiend's turn.  He appeared small for a Dragonfiend, but then again maybe that's what he wants you to think.  Dragonfiends are dangerous, and cunning.  Good thing each click of the mouse was bringing him pleasure.

It was kinda surprising how much fun he seemed to be having with this computer game.  "Take that White Tigers, you should have joined me!  Now you die."  Giggles could be heard whenever his sprites delivered the killing blow.  Sometimes even grown men need to have some fun.

The game proceeded apace, glorious victories here and minor setbacks there.  He's not going to try and kill dozens of minotaurs day 3 again.

He chatted now and then with his opponent, a Mr.Imgod.  They were old friends sharing their fake lives with each other, laughing at the war stories.  "So then he tried to retreat!  Too bad I had the shackles on.  I wish I could have seen his face.!"

The phone rang.  He had it beside the computer, for convenience, just in case.  He answered after the fifth ring.  "Yes?"

"Stan?  Is that you?"

"This is he.  Hi Marlene."

"Whatcha up to?  Not playing that stupid game again I hope?"

"It's not stupid.  Do I call your...., hold on a sec, my turn."  He picked expert tactics for his general before ending his turn this time.

"*sigh*  Fine Stan, it's not stupid.  You're stupid.  For all wasting your time playing it!"

"Look Marlene, if you called just to argue with me, can we reschedule iit?  This isn't the best time for me."

"Stan you....fine, whatever.  I just called to make sure you remembered that next friday is my work's christmas party.  You remember right?"

"Awww crap, next friday?  I've already made plans for that night.  I told Lord DeathMan that I would play my division game with him then.  We've been trying to play for a month now and.."

"Stan, are you telling me that some stupid game is more important than me?  Because if you are..."

"No, no, no, it's not that honey.  It's just that I already made a promise and I hate to..."

"Stan.  If you don't show up next friday, it's over."

(click)

The phone rested against his ear for a few moments before he replaced it in it's crib.  He no longer smiled.  With a slow shake of his head, he went back to his game, studying, planning his next moves.  They were going to decide the fate of the game.....

'Good Game Mr.Imgod.  You almost had me with those 223 halflings and that sniper's crossbow.  Next time i won't be as lucky. '

'Hehe, I would have got you too, if you hadn't wasp swarmed my genies.  It was a good game.    Next time you're Dragonbait.  Well, I've got to go, the missus wants to go to bed.  Cya.'

'Cya, take care.'  His smile was back.  He had won.  His troops hadn't let him down.  How could they with him as their general.  Although it was close.  Too close, that sniper's crossbow...

He stared at the blank screen, rereading the last messages from his now departed opponent.  It had been a great game, the one's with old friends always are.

He glanced down at his note and noticed that he had to play his division game next friday.  "I hope I have as much luck in that game."  He then bid goodbye to his loyal troops, promising them a visit tomorrow, before he reached out and turned the power off.  He got up slowly, eyes straining for the slightest sliver of light before he shuffled off into the darkness.

Geez guys, it's only a first draft.  It can't be that good.;p

But thank you anyways.

It is fiction, I never actually got to play in Divisions before they were disbanded and I only started playing heroes after I broke up with my last girlfriend.  So, no worries there Haile73.;-)

I'm glad you all enjoyed it.  It's been a long time since Shae or Oldtimer posted any stories.  I wondered how new ones would be received.

And yes, I dumbed down the language in the phone call Destro23.  I didn't feel making it more realistic would help the story.

And Haile73, don't worry about posting more, I wasn't looking for reviews, just something to help bored internet surfers.
